Straight Stairlift — Brooklyn, NY

Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Dyker Heights, and Canarsie two-families.

More than 60% of the stairlifts we install in Brooklyn are straight rails. The rail bolts to your existing stair treads only — never into the wall, never into the plaster, never into the original banister on a prewar Heights or Park Slope home. Battery backup keeps you moving through a Con Ed outage. Most Brooklyn straight-rail installs wrap in under four hours, and the slim-profile version fits the grandfathered narrow treads we see in pre-1960 two-families across Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, and Sunset Park.

Starting at $2,900 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

From Park Slope and Brooklyn Heights brownstones with their 11-step sandstone stoops, to the 1890s Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy limestones, to the wood-frame Victorians of Ditmas Park and Prospect Park South, our crew has mapped the stair geometry of thousands of Brooklyn homes. We know which Cobble Hill and Fort Greene blocks sit inside the LPC historic districts and need a Certificate of No Effect before an exterior stoop lift, and which Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Sunset Park two-families have the 1920s narrow treads where only a slim-profile rail fits.

We cover every Brooklyn ZIP — from Greenpoint and Williamsburg through DUMBO, Carroll Gardens, and Red Hook, down through Borough Park, Midwood, Sheepshead Bay, and Brighton Beach, out to Canarsie, East New York, and Flatbush.

Park Slope brownstone stoop — 11 sandstone treads, LPC approved

Park Slope, NY Installed March 2026

An 1898 brownstone on Carroll Street inside the Park Slope Historic District. Mr. Callahan's hip replacement made the 11-step front stoop unusable. We filed a Certificate of No Effect with the Landmarks Preservation Commission on day two — because the rail mounts into the sandstone treads with lead anchors and does not touch the facade, LPC approved in five weeks without a hearing. The rail is powder-coated dark bronze to match the wrought-iron handrail, the chair folds flush against the building when parked, and the cold-pack battery rode out two January nor'easters without a service call.

Fort Greene brownstone — dark bronze rail against cast-iron railing

Fort Greene, NY Installed February 2026

An 1886 brownstone on Cumberland Street inside the Fort Greene Historic District. Ms. Aboagye's mother was visiting from Accra for six months and the 9-step stoop was the obstacle. We filed the CNE with LPC on day two, got approval in four weeks, and installed on a Saturday to work around her mother's medical appointments. The cast-iron railing is original to 1886 — we did not drill a single hole into it. Lead anchors into the sandstone treads only. The stoop photographs the same from the sidewalk as it did before the install.

Crown Heights limestone — curved rail past an 1898 newel post

Crown Heights, NY Installed January 2026

An 1898 limestone rowhouse on Sterling Place with the original parlor-floor staircase, carved newel post, and a 90-degree turn at the mid-landing. Mrs. Beckford has lived in the house since 1974 and was not going to let us touch the newel. We laser-scanned the stair on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the post with a half-inch clearance, and installed the whole rail in a single afternoon eleven days later. The chair parks flush at the upper landing and the parlor photographs unchanged from the sidewalk window. Her grandchildren still climb over the lift on the stair runner when they visit.

Bay Ridge two-family — slim rail for a 32-inch tread

Bay Ridge, NY Installed December 2025

A 1948 attached two-family on 72nd Street in Bay Ridge with interior stair treads only 32 inches wide — grandfathered under the older code. A standard-width chair would have blocked the stair for the upstairs tenant. We specified the slim-profile rail and a compact 17-inch seat. Mrs. Russo (the downstairs owner, 79) rides it to her second-floor sewing room; the upstairs tenant still walks past her on the same run. Her son was a VA patient at the Fort Hamilton campus around the corner — we handled his mother's install and prefilled his HISA paperwork the same week.

Sunset Park two-family — full consultation in Spanish

Sunset Park, NY Installed November 2025

A 1930s two-family on 44th Street in Sunset Park. Doña Cordero speaks Spanish and limited English; her daughter called from Queens. Luis handled the entire assessment in Spanish — walked the stairs with Doña Cordero in her own language, translated every line of the written quote, FaceTimed the daughter through the laser measurements. Four days later the rail was bolted into the stair treads and Doña Cordero rode it up and down three times before we packed the truck. Every operating instruction we left is in Spanish.

Canarsie two-family — 600 lb capacity for post-surgery recovery

Canarsie, NY Installed October 2025

A two-family on East 96th Street in Canarsie. Mr. Jean-Baptiste was recovering from bilateral knee replacements at Brookdale Hospital and full weight-bearing on stairs was off-limits for ten weeks. The standard 300 lb chair was too narrow for him. We specified the reinforced heavy-duty frame with a 22-inch padded seat and a 600 lb capacity. The family called Monday, we assessed Tuesday, the rail was installed the following Monday. Mr. Jean-Baptiste slept in his own upstairs bedroom the night of install day instead of on the living-room couch where he had spent the previous four weeks.

Common Questions

Everything Brooklyn Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Brooklyn right now?

Straight rails in a standard Brooklyn two-family — the kind we install constantly in Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Sunset Park, and Canarsie — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Park Slope brownstones, Crown Heights limestones, and Brooklyn Heights townhouses where the stair turns at a mid-landing run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is laser-scanned and custom-fabricated to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor brownstone stoop lifts — the signature Brooklyn install — run $4,500 to $8,000 for a typical 8-12 sandstone step stoop with weather enclosure. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

How much does a Brooklyn brownstone stoop lift cost?

Outdoor inclined stoop lifts on Park Slope, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Bed-Stuy brownstones run $4,500 to $8,000 depending on tread count (8 to 12 is typical), rail length, and weather enclosure. The rail mounts into the sandstone treads with lead anchors — never into the brownstone facade, never into the wrought-iron railing, never into the original cast-iron newel. If the building sits inside a designated LPC historic district (most of Park Slope, all of Brooklyn Heights, most of Fort Greene, most of Cobble Hill), we file the Certificate of No Effect with the Landmarks Preservation Commission on day two. LPC review runs four to six weeks.

Is there a prewar co-op surcharge in Brooklyn Heights or Park Slope?

No. Equipment prices are the same whether your building is a Brooklyn Heights prewar co-op on Pierrepont, a Park Slope condo on 8th Avenue, or a Canarsie two-family. What occasionally adds cost in a specific building is a board requirement we can't predict — an independent structural engineer's letter (some Heights boards request one, roughly $800-$1,200 from the engineer), or an Alt 2 NYC DOB filing if the lift runs on a common stair in a multiple dwelling. We tell you up front whether your specific building has a history of either.

Do you charge extra for Spanish, Russian, Cantonese, or Yiddish consultation?

No. Luis handles his own Spanish consults in Sunset Park, Bushwick, and East New York. For Russian in Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay, Cantonese or Mandarin in Sunset Park's Eighth Avenue corridor and Bensonhurst, Haitian Creole in East Flatbush and Canarsie, and Yiddish in Borough Park and the Williamsburg Hasidic enclave, we coordinate through the NYC Department for the Aging Brooklyn office on Adams Street, which routes the right interpreter to the assessment. Every written quote and consent form is available in Spanish and simplified Chinese.

A word from Luis

Brooklyn calls almost always start the same way: a brownstone stoop, a parlor-floor entry, and an adult child who wants Mom to stop dragging groceries up eleven sandstone steps. I've installed on Carroll Street in Park Slope, on Willow in Brooklyn Heights, on Jefferson in Bed-Stuy, on Ocean Parkway, on 65th in Bay Ridge, and on every kind of Brooklyn rowhouse between. The brownstone stoop lift is its own craft — lead anchors into 130-year-old sandstone, powder coat matched to the wrought iron, and a Landmarks Certificate of No Effect filed before we touch the treads.

Here is what I promise a Brooklyn client: assessment inside 48 hours, a written 30-day price on the spot, the LPC paperwork filed by me on day two if you're inside a designated district, and the full co-op board packet in your hand on day one if you're in a prewar building in the Heights or on Prospect Park West. Se habla español — I do my own Sunset Park and Bushwick consults. For Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, and Yiddish we coordinate through NYC Aging's Brooklyn office on Adams Street.
