Boulder City sits at roughly 2,510 feet elevation in the Mojave Desert near the Colorado River, about six miles from Lake Mead National Recreation Area; the original 1930s town plan literally sorted housing by elevation, placing senior staff atop the surrounding hills and workers in the valley below, a grade difference still built into the city's streets today.

What makes Boulder City different
Why a stairlift installed in Boulder City, NV is planned around the way this specific community lives, not stamped out from a one-size-fits-all template.
Boulder City's National Register Historic District, Nevada's largest such listing at 514 buildings, is unified by Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, with 408 of those structures built between 1931 and 1942 as Bureau of Reclamation and Six Companies housing for Hoover Dam workers and staff, making much of the city's core housing stock nearly a century old.
Source ↗Boulder City's economy centers on public administration, retail trade, and accommodation/food services tied to Hoover Dam tourism, with a 2024 median household income of $74,757 and a 77.9% homeownership rate; at a median age of 53.5 and about 31% of residents age 65 or older, it is one of the most retirement-skewed cities in Clark County.

Common situations we get called out for across Boulder City's neighborhoods. Drag to scroll, or use the arrows and dots below.
We live in a 1947 cottage on Avenue B in the Historic District. The stairs are steep and narrow, 29 inches between the plaster walls. Luis measured twice, brought the compact rail, and installed it in three hours flat. My husband rides it eight times a day now. The beige seat practically vanishes against our cream plaster.
The Gingerwood house has the open-riser staircase from the 1970s. Two companies said they couldn't anchor a rail to open risers. All American added a backing plate to each tread, bolted the rail down, and the whole thing was done by lunch. Mom goes upstairs on her own again for the first time in two years.
Dad is a retired Hoover Dam maintenance worker, 81, and those six concrete front steps were a fall waiting to happen every summer when the surface hits 150 degrees. The outdoor rail has UV-proof upholstery and a heat-rated battery. He has ridden it through two full summers now without a single issue.
Our Del Prado split-level has tile-on-concrete stairs that three other companies didn't want to touch. All American used masonry anchors, got the rail dead level on the first try, and the install took four hours. The ivory seat matches our desert color palette perfectly.
I'm a veteran and Luis handled every piece of VA paperwork for the HISA grant. The VA Southern Nevada HCS on Pecos Road approved $6,800 and All American didn't charge me a dime until the grant cleared. Start to finish, six weeks. My wife says it's the best thing the VA ever did for us.
The garage-to-house stairwell in our Lake View home gets brutally hot in summer. All American treated it like an outdoor install, heat-rated battery, powder-coated hardware, the works. Three steps, took two hours, and now my mother doesn't have to face those concrete stairs with a cane in 115-degree heat.

Everything Boulder City Homeowners Actually Ask
Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.
What does a stairlift cost for a home in Boulder City?
It comes down to your staircase, not the address. A straight run is the cheapest configuration. A lot of the older Six Companies-era homes near the historic district have a mid-flight landing or a turn, which means the rail has to be custom-bent to match, and that raises the price. We measure in person before quoting a number.
Is a refurbished stairlift a realistic option here?
Yes, and worth asking about. Boulder City's homeownership rate runs high, around 75 to 78%, but that doesn't mean everyone wants to spend top dollar, especially on a median age of 53.5 with about 31% of residents 65 or older living on a fixed retirement income. A refurbished straight-rail unit costs meaningfully less than new. We'll tell you honestly whether your stairs qualify for one.
Does age or income change what I get quoted?
Not directly. We price the equipment and the staircase, not your income. But if you're 65 or older, or a veteran, that opens funding paths that can lower what you actually pay out of pocket, so mention it up front and we'll walk through what applies.
How long does installation take once you're on site?
A straight lift on a standard flight is usually a half-day job. Homes in the historic district with narrower, decades-old stairwells sometimes need extra time to confirm clearance before we order the rail, but we sort that out at the measurement, not on install day.
Will installing a lift damage my stairs, given how old some of this housing stock is?
No. The rail bolts into the treads themselves, not the wall or the banister. That matters more in Boulder City than most places, since 408 of the 514 buildings in the historic district went up between 1931 and 1942, and we're not drilling into original plaster or changing anything structural.
My house sits on one of the hillside streets, does that affect installation?
Not the mechanics of the install. The grade of the street outside doesn't change how the rail mounts inside. It does change the walk-through, though, since some of those hillside lots from the original elevation-sorted town plan have interior stairs built to a steeper pitch than you'd find down in the valley section of town.
Will the City of Las Vegas or Henderson home modification grants help me in Boulder City?
No, both are geographically restricted. The City of Las Vegas Older Adults Home Modification Program (up to $5,000) only covers homes inside Las Vegas city limits, and Henderson's Homeowner Repair Pilot Program ($4,000 for urgent repairs, up to $12,000 for non-emergency projects) is Henderson-only. Boulder City sits outside both footprints.
What Clark County or Nevada programs can Boulder City residents actually use?
Start with the Nevada Aging and Disability Services Division's Las Vegas/Clark County Regional Office at (702) 486-3545. That's the intake point for the state's Medicaid HCBS waivers. The Frail Elderly Waiver (age 65+) and the Physical Disabilities Waiver both fund home-accessibility modifications case by case with no fixed dollar cap, though neither names stairlifts on its published service list. Nevada's Assistive Technology for Independent Living program is the one that does name stair glides directly, up to $3,000 for a rental home, assessed need for an owned home. Rebuilding Together Southern Nevada, at (702) 259-4900, is also worth a call if you meet HUD's low-income limits.
I'm a veteran, what actually covers a stairlift?
Be careful with the HISA grant: it explicitly excludes stair glides in writing, even though the grant itself is worth $6,800 for a service-connected disability or $2,000 for other qualifying disabilities. What can cover a stairlift is VA Prosthetics, when a VA physician prescribes it as medically necessary. That has no fixed dollar cap, but it's a separate application from HISA. Call 1-800-827-1000 and ask specifically for Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service.

I've been inside more than a few of those Six Companies-era houses near the historic district, and the stairwells run tighter than what I'd measure in a house built even twenty years ago over in Henderson. Boulder City's median age is 53.5, and around 31% of residents are 65 or older, so I'm rarely explaining what a stairlift is when I walk in. Usually the question is how fast we can get one installed before a hip replacement recovery or before winter. Lake Mead being six miles out doesn't change any of that; what changes the quote is whether your staircase runs straight or turns.
