The staircase decides the price more than the address does — a straight run costs less than a turn. Curved rail comes up a lot here because so much of the housing stock is condo and villa stairwells with a landing partway up, not a simple open run. Installing during peak snowbird season, roughly October through April, can also mean booking ahead since that's when demand across Lee County peaks.
Usually, and with over a third of the city's housing sitting vacant part of the year, there's a steadier-than-average supply of lightly-used lifts coming out of condos that get sold or renovated. A reconditioned straight lift is where the real savings are; curved rail is custom-bent to one specific staircase, so a used curved unit rarely fits a different building.
It can, if the unit isn't spec'd for it. Homes and condos close to Bonita Beach and the Imperial River see faster corrosion on standard hardware, so we generally recommend the marine-grade rail and fastener upgrade at install — a small add-on cost that cuts down on service calls down the road.
A good number of buildings were rebuilt or elevated after the 2017 flooding, with living space starting on a second floor above a ground-level parking or utility area. That means the actual stair run — and where we anchor the rail — isn't always where a standard single-story install would put it. We measure the real stringer on site rather than assume a layout.
Plenty of our Bonita Springs installs are inside condo buildings along the bay and the Gulf, not detached homes. Interior stairwells in multi-story units take a straight or curved lift fine as long as tread width clears code minimums. HOA approval is usually the bigger hurdle than the stairs themselves, so we build that into the timeline.
Straight rail is typically a same-day job. Curved rail has to be measured and fabricated to the exact staircase, which comes up often in this market given how many condo and villa stairwells here aren't simple straight runs — that adds lead time before the crew shows up to install.
It can, through Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care (SMMC LTC) as an Environmental/Home Accessibility Adaptation — stairlifts are named as an example EAA item under that benefit. There's no published statewide dollar cap; the amount depends on your managed care plan. Not the HISA grant itself — the VA's own Prosthetics fact sheet excludes porch lifts and stair glides from HISA coverage, even though HISA otherwise pays up to $6,800 for service-connected veterans or $2,000 for non-service-connected. A stairlift usually has to come through VA Prosthetics separately, which has no fixed dollar cap but does require a medical prescription.
The FAAST New Horizon Loan Program offers low-interest loans, roughly $3,000 to $30,000, for home modifications like a stairlift — worth confirming the current cap directly with FAAST. And if you own your home in Bonita Springs, Florida's Homestead Exemption plus the Senior Additional Homestead Exemption can reduce your taxable value by up to $50,000 each. That's not cash in hand, but it frees up carrying costs some owners redirect toward accessibility work.
