Bestseller

The workhorse of Bethlehem’s colonials, rowhouses, and duplexes — from the West Side to the South Side. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install across Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next ice-storm outage. For the South Side rowhouses under 28 inches wide, we configure the compact-profile variant that fits stairs as narrow as 25 inches. Every PA install ships with freeze-thaw rated galvanized brackets and stainless fasteners as baseline.

Stairlift Service Across Northampton County

Northampton County, PA

South Side rowhouses built 1890–1920 for Bethlehem Steel workers have steep enclosed stairs and narrow pitches — compact-profile rails are standard here. We’ve installed in rowhouses as narrow as 26 inches.

West Side colonials and Cape Cods from the 1920s–1960s between Broad Street and Westgate have standard two-story residential runs with original oak treads and turned banisters.

North Side homes near the Moravian Historic District have formal two-story staircases with original banisters that cannot be touched — the rail bolts into the treads only.

East Side duplexes along Stefko Boulevard have steep enclosed stairs where headroom clearance requires the low-profile seat. Pembroke Village split-levels have the 90-degree landing turns that demand a curved rail.

Straight

West Side colonial — straight rail on original oak treads to upstairs bedrooms

West Side, PA Installed March 2026

A 1954 colonial on a quiet West Side block between Broad Street and the Westgate corridor where the Kowalskis have lived for 41 years. The 14 hardwood stairs to the upstairs bedrooms had original dark oak treads maintained since the house was built. After Mr. Kowalski’s knee replacement at St. Luke’s, we bolted the straight rail directly into the oak treads without touching the turned banister on the right side. The beige seat sits unfolded at the bottom landing near the front hall. The rail finish was color-matched to the existing oak. Three hours, no damage to the original trim.

North Side Moravian-era home — curved rail with 90-degree turn at the upper landing

North Side, PA Installed February 2026

A 1924 stone-fronted home on a North Side block three streets from the Moravian Historic District with a formal staircase, original walnut millwork, and a chandelier above the two-story foyer. Mrs. Groff was clear the stairlift ‘must not look like medical equipment.’ We laser-scanned the staircase and fabricated a curved rail that follows the 90-degree bend at the upper landing. The brown-upholstered seat parks flush at the top-floor hallway so she steps off onto the hardwood, not the top tread. Framed artwork on the stairwell wall was undisturbed. Her church group visited twice since the install and not one person mentioned it unprompted.

South Side steelworker rowhouse — compact-profile rail in a tight traditional stairwell

South Side, PA Installed January 2026

A 1908 rowhouse two blocks from the old Bethlehem Steel plant gate with 27-inch enclosed stairs and stone-tile treads worn smooth by a century of use. The compact stairwell opens onto a narrow hallway with a wooden sideboard and a potted plant at the base. Her son called from Allentown; the entire consultation happened in Spanish. Luis specified the compact-profile rail — only 11 inches from wall to outer edge of the folded seat — bolted it into the stone treads next to the sideboard, and left behind a Spanish-language operating manual. The brown-upholstered seat folds flat in the cozy traditional space. Sra. Meléndez rides it every day.

East Side raised porch — freeze-thaw rated outdoor lift on stone paving steps

East Side, PA Installed December 2025

A 1950s duplex off Stefko Boulevard with a raised front porch and eight stone paving steps that ice over every winter. Mr. Figueroa fell on those steps during a February ice storm and his daughter decided the outdoor lift was non-negotiable. We anchored an outdoor-rated rail with hot-dip galvanized brackets and 304-stainless fasteners directly into the rough natural stone paving. The cream-upholstered seat is weather-sealed against Lehigh Valley’s 62 annual freeze-thaw cycles, UV-rated, and sits at the covered porch entry. It ran through the full 2025–2026 Pennsylvania winter — including a week of freezing rain — without a single missed ride.

Pembroke Village split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel-exit seat

Pembroke Village, PA Installed November 2025

A 1972 split-level in Pembroke Village with wall-to-wall carpet on the upper flight from the main level to the bedrooms. Mrs. Henning needed a lift after a hip replacement and her orthopedist required that she not bear full weight on the stairs. We bolted the rail through the carpet and pad directly into the plywood subfloor — the carpet sits flat around the brackets with no bunching or trip hazard. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones. A swivel-exit seat rotates at the top landing so she steps off onto the tiled hallway floor instead of the top tread. Wall-mounted light switches beside the rail were left accessible.

Platform Lift

East Side duplex — HISA-funded indoor wheelchair platform for a Vietnam veteran

East Side, PA Installed October 2025

A 1946 duplex on the East Side where Mr. Yancey, a Vietnam veteran enrolled in the VA Wilkes-Barre health care system, uses a wheelchair and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides, and a white handrail along the interior stairway wall. The orange-terracotta walls of the hallway frame the platform at the landing, and a window lets natural light into the stairwell. The HISA grant of $6,800 covered the full cost. Mr. Yancey rolls on, presses one button, and rolls off at the upper floor. The VA paperwork took us 20 minutes.

Common Questions

Everything Bethlehem Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Bethlehem right now?

Straight rails in standard Bethlehem homes — the West Side colonials, the South Side rowhouses, the East Side duplexes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with a landing turn or multi-story configuration (common in Pembroke Village split-levels and the three-story twins on the South Side) run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for icy front-porch entries and raised stoops run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, freeze-thaw rated hardware, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Do narrow South Side rowhouse stairs cost more to install?

The equipment cost is the same. What sometimes adds a small labor charge is the compact-profile configuration required for stairs under 28 inches wide — common in the steelworker rowhouses built between 1890 and 1920. The compact rail requires more precise calibration to ensure the folding seat clears both walls when parked. We tell you that line item upfront. There’s no generic ‘rowhouse surcharge.’

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Bethlehem assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request. In a city where nearly 30% of the population is Hispanic — predominantly Puerto Rican families concentrated on the South Side — Spanish-language service is a baseline, not an upgrade. Luis walks families through the measurement, the quote, the operating manual, and the consent forms in Spanish. Every printed document is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Are prices different in Bethlehem than Allentown or Easton?

Equipment prices are the same across the Lehigh Valley and across Pennsylvania. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions — South Side compact-profile configurations, Moravian Historic District exterior applications, compensating rail mounts for foundation-settled treads in pre-1920 homes. We quote those line items transparently. No geographic premium for being in Bethlehem versus anywhere else in the ABE metro.

A word from Luis

Bethlehem families call me about two kinds of stairs. The first is the steep, narrow run in a 1910 South Side worker rowhouse that was built for steelworkers in their twenties — not for the 82-year-old widow who’s lived there since 1974. The second is the wide formal staircase in a West Side colonial where the homeowner hasn’t been upstairs in three months after a knee replacement.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.

— Luis Ramírez, Bethlehem
