Stairlift Service Across Lehigh County

Lehigh County, PA

From the West End — where 1940s colonials and Cape Cods line tree-shaded blocks between Cedar Crest Boulevard and the Allentown Fairgrounds, and the stairlift conversation is usually about reaching upstairs bedrooms in a home the family has owned for 40 years — to Old Allentown, where 1880s Victorian twins sit inside a designated historic district and original chestnut banisters cannot be touched without city review, our team has mapped every block. We know which South Side rowhouses have the 26-inch stair width that requires a compact-profile rail, which East Side duplexes need the low-profile seat for headroom, which Center City conversions need a landing-turn curved rail, and which Rittersville homes have 1940s aluminum wiring requiring a new dedicated circuit.

Straight

West End colonial — straight rail on original hardwood treads

West End, PA Installed March 2026

A 1952 colonial on a tree-lined West End block where the Schaefers have lived for 38 years. After Mr. Schaefer's stroke last fall, the 13 carpeted-over-hardwood stairs became the daily obstacle his wife dreaded watching him attempt. We exposed the original hardwood, color-matched the rail finish to the warm oak tread, and installed a straight rail with freeze-thaw rated hardware — the stairwell sits against an exterior wall that gets cold in Allentown's winters. Battery backup handles Lehigh Valley ice-storm outages. Three hours, zero damage to the original woodwork.

1892 Old Allentown Victorian — curved rail past original chestnut banister

Old Allentown, PA Installed January 2026

An 1892 Victorian twin in the Old Allentown Historic District with an original chestnut banister and a 90-degree turn at the second-floor landing. The homeowner said 'do not touch a single spindle.' We digitally scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the chestnut newel post without grazing the woodwork, and bolted the track exclusively into the existing treads. The seat parks at the upper landing where Mrs. Keller steps off onto the hallway floor. Her historic-district neighbors came over for dinner three weeks later and didn't notice it until she demonstrated.

South Side rowhouse — compact-profile rail in tight traditional stairwell

South Side, PA Installed February 2026

A 1910 rowhouse on the South Side with 27-inch enclosed stairs — walls on both sides, no banister, and a steep pitch. Sra. Colón needed the lift after hip surgery. The compact-profile rail fits with 24 inches of walking clearance on the opposite side, and the folding seat and footrest tuck flat when parked so the rest of the household can still use the stairs. The stone-tiled treads at the base and the cozy, compact stairwell are typical of these older Allentown rowhouses. Luis walked Sra. Colón through every button in Spanish — twice, at her insistence.

Outdoor

Lehigh Parkway ranch — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved entry steps

Lehigh Parkway, PA Installed November 2025

A 1960s ranch near Lehigh Parkway with a raised front porch and seven concrete steps that ice over every winter. Mrs. Morales fell on those steps two winters ago and her son decided the outdoor lift was non-negotiable. We anchored an outdoor-rated rail with hot-dip galvanized brackets, 304-stainless fasteners, and cold-weather lubricant rated for Allentown's 62 annual freeze-thaw cycles. The cream weather-resistant seat sits at the stone-paved entry and the motor housing is IP55 sealed against ice, sleet, and salt spray from sidewalk treatments. It has been through one full Pennsylvania winter without a single missed ride.

Rittersville duplex — straight rail on carpeted landing stairs

Rittersville, PA Installed December 2025

A 1940s duplex in Rittersville with carpeted stairs leading from a tiled ground-floor entry to the upstairs bedrooms. Mr. Rivera was recovering from a double knee replacement at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest and needed to reach the upstairs bedroom. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones on the treads, and the rail runs a clean straight line from the tiled landing to the upper floor. We pulled a new dedicated 20A circuit for the old aluminum wiring before plugging in — standard procedure for these older Rittersville homes. The carpet pile hides the bracket flanges completely.

Platform Lift

Center City — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Center City, PA Installed October 2025

A converted triple in Center City where Mrs. Ortiz's mother uses a power wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift along the main staircase with a flat black anti-slip platform and high-visibility yellow safety edges around the perimeter. The orange-toned stairwell walls and the window above the landing give the space natural light. The platform accommodates a full-size power chair, the gate interlocks prevent movement unless fully closed, and the controls are mounted at wheelchair-accessible height on both levels. Mrs. Ortiz's mother now moves between floors independently.

Common Questions

Everything Allentown Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Allentown right now?

Straight rails in standard Allentown homes — the West End colonials, the South Side and East Side rowhouses, the Rittersville duplexes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for homes with a landing turn or the three-story Old Allentown Victorians with intermediate landings run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for icy front-porch entries and raised stoops run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, freeze-thaw rated hardware, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Do narrow rowhouse stairs cost more to install?

The equipment cost is the same. What sometimes adds a small labor charge is the compact-profile configuration required for stairs under 28 inches wide — common in the South Side and East Side rowhouses built between 1880 and 1920. The compact rail requires more precise calibration to ensure the folding seat clears both walls when parked. We tell you that line item upfront. There's no generic 'rowhouse surcharge.'

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Allentown assessment can be conducted entirely in Spanish at your request. In a city that's approximately 52% Hispanic, with a large Puerto Rican community concentrated on the South Side and East Side, Spanish-language service is not an add-on — it's a baseline requirement. Luis walks families through the measurement, the quote, the operating manual, and the consent forms in Spanish. Every printed document is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Are prices different in the Lehigh Valley than Philadelphia or Scranton?

Equipment prices are the same across Pennsylvania. Install labor is slightly different in Allentown because of the rowhouse density — more compact-profile configurations, more narrow-stair calibration work. But we quote those line items transparently. There's no geographic premium for being in the Lehigh Valley versus anywhere else in the state.

A word from Luis

Allentown families call me about the stairs they've been climbing for 40 years — the narrow, steep treads in a 1920s rowhouse on the South Side, a Victorian twin in Old Allentown where the banister is original to the house, a West End colonial where Dad hasn't been to the upstairs bedroom in six months. This is a city built on stairs. My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
