Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, MA

From the dense triple-decker blocks of Arlington and Prospect Hill — where 66% of the housing was built before 1939 and the staircases are steep, narrow, and worn smooth — to the two-family homes of South Lawrence along the river where Dominican and Puerto Rican families have settled for three generations, our crew knows this housing stock. We have measured the Tower Hill Victorians with their formal front staircases and cramped back runs, the North Lawrence wood-frame multifamilies where landlord-accommodation letters are standard, and the Mount Vernon single-families where a straight rail on carpeted stairs is the most common install we do.

Because Lawrence sits at the intersection of I-495 and I-93, we also cover Methuen, Andover, North Andover, Haverhill, Tewksbury, and Dracut from the same crew — no travel surcharges, no scheduling gaps.

Arlington triple-decker — straight rail on original Douglas fir treads

Arlington, MA Installed March 2026

A 1908 triple-decker on Haverhill Street in the Arlington neighborhood — the building type Lawrence was built on. Sra. Mejía lives on the second floor, her daughter on the third. The interior staircase is original Douglas fir, 28 inches wide, with treads worn smooth by over a century of use. Two other companies said the stairway was too narrow. We specified the slim-profile rail — 11 inches from wall to outer edge of the folded seat — leaving 17 inches of clear walking width, which exceeds the Massachusetts building code minimum. Every bolt went into the treads, not the plaster walls. The entire consultation, contract signing, and operating walkthrough happened in Spanish at the kitchen table. Sra. Mejía rides it four times a day and her daughter hears the motor hum through the ceiling — that is how she knows her mother is moving safely between floors.

Tower Hill Victorian — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Tower Hill, MA Installed February 2026

A 1902 Victorian on Tower Hill with a formal front staircase that rises from the entry hall, turns 90 degrees at an upper landing, and opens onto a second-floor hallway. Mr. DeLuca's father had been living entirely on the first floor for eight months after a hip replacement — the bedroom, the bathroom, everything he needed was upstairs, but the turn at the landing made a straight rail impossible. We laser-scanned the full geometry, fabricated a single curved rail that carries him from the entry to the bedroom hallway in one continuous ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top. The original turned-oak banister — one of the few surviving details in the house from its mill-supervisor era — was never touched. Mr. DeLuca Sr. slept in his own bed for the first time in eight months the night we finished.

South Lawrence fieldstone two-family — straight rail on stone-walled stairway

South Lawrence, MA Installed January 2026

A 1925 fieldstone two-family on South Broadway near the Merrimack River. The interior stairway has exposed fieldstone on one side — a construction detail common in Lawrence's early worker housing — and plaster on the other. The stone wall made any wall bracket impossible, so every mount went into the treads. The treads themselves were original pine, solid but settling unevenly after a century of freeze-thaw cycles in the river-adjacent soil. We shimmed four rail brackets to level the ride and sealed the bottom bracket against basement moisture that wicks up through the stone foundation. Mr. Santos is a retired mill worker who spent 30 years at Malden Mills in Methuen. He checked our shimming with a torpedo level and approved. The fieldstone character of the stairway is fully preserved.

Outdoor

Prospect Hill raised entry — outdoor lift on granite steps

Prospect Hill, MA Installed December 2025

A 1930s wood-frame house on Prospect Hill with a raised front entry — eight granite steps from the sidewalk to the porch. Abuela Reyes uses a walker and could not clear the entry without two family members lifting her step by step. A ramp would have extended past the property line onto the city sidewalk. We anchored an outdoor straight rail directly into the granite risers, sealed every bracket against Merrimack Valley freeze-thaw cycling, and installed cold-rated batteries that hold charge down to -15°F. The entire consultation happened in Spanish — the daughter translated for the landlord, who approved the reasonable-accommodation request the same week. Abuela Reyes gets to the car for dialysis appointments three times a week without depending on anyone to carry her down the steps.

Mount Vernon single-family — straight rail on carpeted stairs, same-day install

Mount Vernon, MA Installed November 2025

A 1960s single-family on Mount Vernon Street — one of Lawrence's quieter residential blocks away from the dense triple-decker grid. Carpeted stairs, 34 inches wide, straight run from the living room to three bedrooms. Mrs. Fitzgerald's doctor at Lawrence General Hospital told her to stop climbing stairs after a second fall in three months. Her son called us Monday morning, we measured Monday afternoon, and installed Tuesday. The rail bolts through the carpet into the treads beneath — no carpet removal, no re-stretching, no damage to the runner. The seat folds flat against the wall at the bottom landing. Mrs. Fitzgerald's grandchildren still run up and down the stairs without ducking around it. She has not missed a night in her own bedroom since the install.

Platform Lift

North Lawrence multifamily — indoor wheelchair platform lift between floors

North Lawrence, MA Installed October 2025

A 1920s wood-frame multifamily on Essex Street where Mr. Rodríguez lives on the first floor. He is a full-time wheelchair user after a construction injury at age 42 — far too young for a senior stairlift, but the stairs were the barrier between his apartment and the rest of his life. A seated lift was never an option. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with yellow safety edges along the platform perimeter and an interlocking gate system at both levels. The landlord approved the reasonable-accommodation request within five days after we prepared the packet under Massachusetts Chapter 151B and the federal Fair Housing Act. The lift carries Mr. Rodríguez and his chair from the first-floor hallway to the building exit in about 35 seconds. The yellow edge markings meet ADA visibility standards. His wife said he left the building independently for the first time in 14 months the day we finished.

Common Questions

Everything Lawrence Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Lawrence right now?

Straight rails in standard Lawrence homes — the triple-deckers on Haverhill Street, the two-families in South Lawrence, the single-families on Mount Vernon — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you will need for Tower Hill Victorians and any staircase with a landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries and granite steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

I rent my apartment. Who pays for the stairlift — me or the landlord?

In most cases, the tenant pays for the stairlift. However, Massachusetts law (Chapter 151B) and the federal Fair Housing Act require landlords to allow reasonable modifications for disabled tenants. The landlord cannot refuse the installation — but the tenant typically covers the cost. If you qualify for the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver or a VA HISA grant, those programs pay directly and the landlord still cannot block the work. We prepare the reasonable-accommodation letter, hand-deliver it to the landlord, and handle every step of the approval process at no charge.

Does the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver cover the full cost?

It can. The waiver classifies stairlifts as home accessibility adaptations with a lifetime cap of roughly $10,000 — enough for a straight rail and most curved rails. Eligibility requires Massachusetts residency, age 60+, MassHealth Standard qualification, and nursing-facility level of care as assessed by AgeSpan (formerly Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley), located at 280 Merrimack Street right here in Lawrence. Call MassOptions at 1-800-243-4636 to start the assessment. Name All American as your vendor. Typical timeline: 14-30 days from first call to installation.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Lawrence assessment is available in Spanish from the first phone call — Luis is bilingual and has walked hundreds of Merrimack Valley families through every line of the contract, the operating manual, and the follow-up call in their preferred language. Every printed document is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. In a city that is 82% Hispanic, this is baseline service, not a special request.

A word from Luis

Lawrence is a bilingual city — over 80% Hispanic, mostly Dominican and Puerto Rican families — and the stairlift conversation here almost always starts in Spanish. A daughter calls about her mother's triple-decker on Haverhill Street. A son on Prospect Hill wants to know if the landlord has to approve the install. A grandmother in South Lawrence hasn't been upstairs in her own home since February.

Mi trabajo es sencillo: llego a su casa en 24 horas, mido una vez, y le doy un precio por escrito que vale 30 días. Sin presión. Sin cargos ocultos. Hablamos su idioma desde la primera llamada.
