Stairlift Service Across Hampden County

Hampden County, MA

We install across every part of West Springfield. Mittineague has older single-family homes near the park — lots of straight staircases in Capes and ranches from the 1950s. Merrick mixes small colonials and apartment complexes, where we often fit compact straight rails into 32-inch stairwells. Tatham's rural-feel properties lean larger — colonials with broader staircases, and a handful of curved-rail installs where the landing turns at 90 degrees. Amostown and Cayenne sit on the higher-priced end, with split-levels and newer construction where the stairs are wider but the half-flight geometry needs careful measurement. Ashleyville and the Memorial Avenue corridor have denser housing — tight staircases, older wood treads, and a steady call for outdoor units on front stoops.

1950s Cape on Oak Treads — Mittineague

Mittineague, MA Installed March 2026

Classic mid-century Cape on a quiet street off Westfield Street. Dark oak treads, 13 steps, straight flight — the original hardwood from 1954. The homeowners' mother, 78, had stopped using the second floor after a hip surgery. The beige seat was fitted to match the warm wood tones. Rail bolted to the treads, no wall contact. Three hours, one visit, no paint touch-up needed.

90-Degree Curved Rail — Tatham Colonial

Tatham, MA Installed April 2026

Wide colonial on Tatham Hill Road with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at a half-wall landing. Chandelier above, modern interior. The curved rail was laser-measured on site — the bend was fabricated at the factory, then mounted in a single afternoon. Brown seat parked at the upper landing, clear sightlines through the foyer. The homeowner has MS and needed full two-floor access without a remodel.

Compact Colonial on Stone Treads — Merrick

Merrick, MA Installed February 2026

Tight colonial on a Merrick side street, built 1962. Stone tile treads, narrow 30-inch staircase, wooden sideboard at the base. The brown seat was chosen to blend with the dark cabinetry. Because of the narrow width, we used a slim-rail profile — the folded chair leaves 13 inches of walkway. Homeowner's wife had a knee replacement and needed access to the upstairs bedrooms during recovery.

Outdoor

Front Porch Stone Steps — Ashleyville

Ashleyville, MA Installed October 2025

Six stone-paved front steps leading to a covered porch. Rough-hewn bluestone, uneven rise on the bottom step. The cream outdoor unit was chosen for visibility. IP55-rated, marine-grade seals, rail heated to shed ice. The homeowner's father, 82, had been avoiding visits because of the stairs. Now he comes for Sunday dinner. Survived the 2025-26 winter without a single service call.

Carpeted Split-Level Landing — Amostown

Amostown, MA Installed January 2026

Split-level in Amostown, built 1978. Beige carpeted stairs — 12 steps up to the bedroom level, tiled floor at the base landing. The brown seat matched the carpet tone so the unit blended into the existing décor. The homeowners' youngest son has cerebral palsy and uses a walker. The stairlift runs on a dedicated circuit from a nearby hallway outlet. Battery backup tested during the January nor'easter — held for the full six-hour outage.

Common Questions

Everything West Springfield Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in West Springfield?

A straight stairlift in West Springfield starts at $2,800 installed. Curved rails, which are custom-bent to your staircase after a laser measurement, start at $9,000. Outdoor units begin at $4,000, and heavy-duty models at $5,050. These prices include the home assessment, the rail, the seat, installation, and the first year of service. Financing runs from $79/month. No hidden fees — we give you a firm quote at the assessment, before any work begins.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Massachusetts?

No. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover stairlifts — they classify them as home modifications, not medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans in Massachusetts offer a home-modification allowance, but it varies by plan. The real funding sources for West Springfield residents are the VA HISA grant ($6,800 for service-connected veterans), the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver for income-eligible seniors 60+, and the state's Home Modification Loan Program (zero-interest loans up to $50,000).

How much is the HISA grant for veterans in West Springfield?

The VA HISA grant provides up to $6,800 lifetime for veterans with a service-connected disability, and up to $2,000 for those with a non-service-connected condition. It's a one-time benefit, tax-free, and never has to be repaid. The application goes through the Springfield VA Clinic at 25 Bond Street — Luis can help with the medical-necessity form that your VA primary care provider needs to sign.

Are there any Massachusetts state programs that help pay for a stairlift?

Yes, two main ones. The MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver (FEW) covers home modifications including stairlifts for income-eligible adults 60 and older who meet nursing-facility-level care criteria. Separately, the Home Modification Loan Program (HMLP) offers zero-interest loans up to $50,000 for homeowners making accessibility changes — no monthly payments, repayment only when the property is sold or transferred. Both require documentation from a medical professional.

A word from Luis

West Springfield homes have staircases that tell you exactly when the house was built. The Capes and ranches from the 1950s and '60s in Merrick and Ashleyville — straight flights, narrow treads, often carpeted. Then you've got the Victorians near Mittineague Park, some dating to the 1880s, with steep staircases and tight landings. Each one needs a different rail profile.

What I see a lot in this town are split-levels. The Amostown and Tatham areas have scores of them — three steps up to the kitchen, six down to the family room. That's where a straight rail on the main flight plus some planning on the half-flight landings gets the whole house accessible again. We do a lot of those.

For outdoor installs, I always tell people the same thing: Western Mass winters mean freeze-thaw on those stone front stoops. The outdoor units we put in around Bear Hole and Cayenne are IP55-rated, marine-grade sealed. They run through snow and ice. I've had one on a Memorial Avenue porch since 2017 — still smooth as day one.

— Luis Ramírez, West Springfield
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

West Springfield sits right across the Connecticut River from Springfield, and a lot of families here have roots going back generations. The housing stock reflects that — from 1880s Victorians to mid-century Capes to the newer builds going up near Piper Cross. A stairlift that works for a 32-inch Merrick staircase might be the wrong fit for a wide Tatham colonial. That's why every job starts with a free home assessment, not a phone quote.

We handle the whole process from measurement to install in one visit, typically three hours for a straight rail. If funding is the holdup — and it often is — we walk you through the HISA grant at the Springfield VA Clinic on Bond Street, the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver, or the HMLP zero-interest loan. Call Luis directly or use the form on this page. He answers his own phone.
