Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Marathon County

Marathon County, WI

We cover Wausau's three housing eras. The East Hill and Andrew Warren Historic District homes northeast of downtown are 1880s–1920s Queen Annes and Colonial Revivals with narrow, winding staircases — curved rails are common here, laser-measured to the exact turn. The Southeast Side and Highland Park hold mid-century Cape Cods, bungalows, and ranches with standard straight flights suited to 3-hour installs. West of the river, Forest Park, Westies, and Riverside bring split-levels and hillside entries where outdoor lifts and longer rails come into play. We also serve Athletic Park, Riverview, and the Northwest side, plus nearby Stevens Point, Marshfield, and Plover.

Straight

Cape Cod Straight Rail — Southeast Side

Southeast Side, WI Installed February 2026

This 1958 Cape Cod on the Southeast Side had dark oak hardwood treads, original to the house and steep. The family needed a way to reach the single upstairs bathroom for their mother. We bolted a straight cream-seat rail into the treads — 14 feet up the right side — to contrast the dark flooring. Battery backup carries it through central Wisconsin winter power flickers.

Curved

Queen Anne Curved Rail — East Hill Historic District

East Hill Historic District, WI Installed January 2026

A 1901 Queen Anne on Grant Street with the original curved staircase — chestnut banister, a half-wall at the 90-degree landing, and a chandelier overhead. The turn was tight at 22 inches inside, so we laser-measured the whole run and had the curved rail fabricated to match. The brown upholstered seat parks at the upper landing and the rail hugs the half-wall, nothing touching the plaster.

Mid-Century Compact Install — Highland Park

Highland Park, WI Installed March 2026

This 1955 cottage-style home in Highland Park had a compact straight staircase with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the bottom landing — typical of the neighborhood's modest mid-century builds. The narrow stair meant a slim-rail model that sits 11 inches from the wall when folded. The brown seat parks at the base near the sideboard, leaving the upstairs hallway clear.

Outdoor

Hillside Outdoor Lift — Rib Mountain

Rib Mountain, WI Installed October 2025

A Rib Mountain home built into the hillside with 11 rough-stone porch steps up to the front door. The family wanted their father, who uses a walker, to come in the front instead of through the garage. We installed an IP55-rated outdoor lift with marine-grade components and a weather cover, the cream seat and rail rated to run down to -10°F. Done in October, in place before the first November snow.

Split-Level Carpeted Install — Forest Park

Forest Park, WI Installed December 2025

A 1972 split-level in Forest Park with beige carpet running wall-to-wall up a 15-step straight flight from the living room to the bedroom level. We fitted a brown-upholstered seat to match the carpet tones, mounting the brackets through the carpet into the wood sub-tread beneath. The lift parks at the lower landing on tile, keeping the upstairs hallway unobstructed.

Platform Lift

Wheelchair Platform Lift — Westies

Westies, WI Installed March 2026

A prewar Westies home where the homeowner uses a manual wheelchair full-time. The indoor staircase is straight, 16 feet, standard width. We installed an inclined platform lift with a flat black deck and yellow safety edges, rated to 600 pounds — room for the wheelchair, the rider, and a caregiver. The platform folds against the wall when idle, and the powered ramp at the top prevents roll-off.

Common Questions

Everything Wausau Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Wausau?

Straight stairlifts in Wausau start at $2,800 installed. Curved units, custom-built after a laser measurement, start at $9,000. Outdoor lifts — common on Rib Mountain hillside entries — start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models rated to 600 pounds start at $5,050. Every price includes the in-home measurement, rail fabrication, installation (typically 3–4 hours), and a 5-year warranty with lifetime rail coverage.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in Wausau's historic homes?

Wausau's East Hill and Andrew Warren Historic Districts are full of Queen Anne and Colonial Revival homes with curved, multi-landing staircases that predate standard dimensions. Each curved rail is fabricated individually to match the exact radius of your turn, which requires a 1-hour laser measurement on site — that custom work is what raises the price over a straight rail.

Are there hidden costs with Wausau stairlift installation?

No. The price quoted at the in-home assessment is the price you pay. It covers the rail, the chair, installation labor, the battery backup, and removal of packaging. Wausau's older East Hill homes sometimes have non-standard tread depths or plaster walls, but those don't add charges.

How does Wausau stairlift pricing compare to Madison or Milwaukee?

Wausau pricing runs about 10–15% below Madison or Milwaukee for the same equipment. The lifts themselves are identical — Bruno and Harmar units made in the U.S. — but we don't carry the overhead of a larger metro dealership, so that saving passes to you.

A word from Luis

I've installed stairlifts in just about every kind of home Wausau has — from 1890s Queen Annes in the East Hill and Andrew Warren Historic Districts with tight 90-degree turns at the half-landing, to 1960s Cape Cods on the Southeast Side where a straight rail goes in over a single morning. The winters here are the real test: outdoor lifts on Rib Mountain hillside homes need IP55 weather sealing, because I've seen cheaper units freeze up by February. I measure every tread and rise myself — no subcontractors guessing at the curve.

The funding side matters as much as the install. For Wausau-area veterans, the VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800, and the Wausau VA Clinic now sits at 1105 East Grand Avenue in Rothschild — their primary care providers write the medical-necessity note. For non-veterans, Wisconsin's IRIS program and Family Care can cover a stairlift as an adaptive aid. The ADRC of Central Wisconsin on Stewart Avenue is the right first call, and I've walked plenty of families through both.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Wausau's housing runs from East Hill's lumber-baron Victorians with their ornate curved staircases to the Southeast Side's practical postwar Cape Cods, so no two stairlift jobs look alike here. The common thread is a housing stock built mostly for two-story living, where the climb to the upstairs bathroom or bedroom becomes the daily barrier as mobility changes. Whether it's a straight rail on a Forest Park split-level or a custom-curved unit tracing the turn in an Andrew Warren District Queen Anne, the install happens in a single morning — rail bolted to the treads, not the wall, so the original woodwork and plaster stay untouched.

For Wausau families, the funding path usually starts at the Wausau VA Clinic at 1105 East Grand Avenue in Rothschild — where HISA grants cover up to $6,800 for qualifying veterans — or the ADRC of Central Wisconsin on Stewart Avenue, which connects seniors to Family Care and IRIS coverage for adaptive aids. WisLoan offers low-interest financing for home modifications statewide, and our own financing runs from $79 a month. Most Wausau installs happen within a week of the in-home measurement.
