Straight Stairlift

Built for Waldorf's colonials and two-stories — from the 1980s St. Charles subdivisions to the 2000s North Pointe townhouses.

Over 75% of the stairlifts we install in Waldorf are straight runs through the standard colonial staircases that line every cul-de-sac in St. Charles, Country Place, and North Pointe. The rail bolts into your stair treads (never the wall), the seat and footrest fold flat, and the battery backup keeps you moving through summer thunderstorm outages. Most Waldorf installs on modern construction wrap in under three hours.

Starting at $3,150 installed

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Charles County

Charles County, MD

From the 1970s subdivisions of Pinefield and St. Charles — where split-level ranches and colonial two-stories drive the bulk of our calls — to the post-2000 developments of North Pointe and Fieldside with wider stairs and faster installs, our crew knows this housing stock subdivision by subdivision. We have measured the St. Charles colonials with straight 14-step runs, the Pinefield split-levels where a six-step foyer rise is the most common hazard we see, the Ashford Oaks two-stories that install in under three hours, and the Country Place homes where military families need the lift ready on a Walter Reed discharge timeline.

Our crew also covers La Plata, Bensville, Brandywine, Accokeek, and Indian Head from the same dispatch — no travel surcharges anywhere in Charles County.

Straight

St. Charles colonial — straight rail on a 14-step carpeted run

St. Charles, MD Installed March 2026

A 1982 colonial in the St. Charles subdivision — the kind of house that lines every cul-de-sac in Waldorf's original planned community. Mrs. Jefferson bought the house with her husband in 1984 when he was stationed at Indian Head. Fourteen carpeted steps from the living room to the master bedroom, 34 inches wide, perfectly straight. She had been sleeping in the recliner since August because the stairs were no longer safe after a second fall. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the treads, mounted a folding seat that parks flush against the wall at the bottom landing, and had her riding by early afternoon. Her daughter drove down from Bowie to watch the install and said her mother climbed into her own bed that night for the first time in seven months.

Pinefield split-level — curved rail through a 90-degree landing turn

Pinefield, MD Installed February 2026

A 1976 split-level ranch in Pinefield — the most common staircase we measure in Waldorf. Six steps from the foyer to the main living level, a mid-landing with a 90-degree turn, then eight more steps to the bedrooms. A straight rail was impossible. Mr. Hayes retired from Indian Head after 28 years and his knees gave out three years into retirement. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a single curved rail that rides the full run in one continuous track, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing so Mr. Hayes steps off onto the hallway floor instead of onto the top tread. One ride, zero transfers. His wife said he stopped talking about selling the house the day we finished.

Country Place two-story — installed before a Walter Reed discharge

Country Place, MD Installed January 2026

A 1988 colonial on Route 228 in Country Place where Sergeant Washington was recovering from bilateral knee replacement at Walter Reed. His wife called on a Monday — the discharge was scheduled for the following Friday and the bedroom was upstairs. We measured Tuesday, confirmed a straight 15-step run with standard-width treads, and installed Thursday morning. Sergeant Washington rode the lift from the front hallway to the master bedroom the evening he came home. The VA HISA grant covered the full cost. We had prefilled VA Form 10-0103 during the Tuesday assessment and the prescription was already in process through the VA Maryland Health Care System. His wife said the only thing she did not plan for was how fast we moved.

Bensville raised entry — outdoor lift sealed for Southern Maryland humidity

Bensville, MD Installed December 2025

A 1985 raised-entry colonial in Bensville — six concrete steps from the driveway to the front door, fully exposed to Southern Maryland's summer humidity that runs 70-85% from June through September. Mr. Collins is a retired Navy civilian who spent 25 years at Indian Head. His cardiologist told him to stop climbing exterior stairs after a procedure in November. We anchored the outdoor rail into the concrete risers, sealed every bracket with marine-grade epoxy rated for the Potomac River corridor's humidity load, and installed a sealed motor housing with IP55 rating. The lift ran through a full Southern Maryland summer — every afternoon thunderstorm, every 95-degree humid day — without a service call. Mr. Collins sits on the front porch every evening now because he can get there without asking anyone for help.

North Pointe townhouse — wide stairs, same-day install

North Pointe, MD Installed November 2025

A 2008 townhouse in North Pointe — wide stairs, level treads, modern construction. The kind of install that goes fast. Mrs. Adeyemi's mother moved in after a stroke and the bedroom was on the second floor. The daughter called Wednesday morning, we measured Wednesday afternoon, and installed Friday. The rail bolts into engineered treads that accept fasteners cleanly, the seat folds flat against the wall, and the 36-inch stairway width leaves a full 25 inches of clear walking space with the seat folded. Mrs. Adeyemi's two children still run up and down without ducking. Her mother has not missed a night in the upstairs bedroom since the install.

Platform Lift

Ashford Oaks colonial — indoor platform lift for a full-time wheelchair user

Ashford Oaks, MD Installed October 2025

A 2004 colonial in Ashford Oaks where Mr. Rivera is a full-time wheelchair user after a combat injury during his second deployment. The VA rated him 100% permanent and total. A seated lift was never an option — he needed his chair on both floors. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with interlocking safety gates at both levels and yellow ADA-compliant edge markings. The HISA grant covered $6,800 toward the cost, and the Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors Program through DHCD covered the remainder as a zero-interest deferred loan. Mr. Rivera rolls from the first-floor living room to the upstairs bedroom in about 40 seconds. His wife said the house finally works the way it should have from the start.

Common Questions

Everything Waldorf Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Waldorf right now?

Straight rails in standard Waldorf homes — the colonials in St. Charles, the townhouses in North Pointe, the two-stories in Country Place — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Pinefield split-levels and any staircase with a landing turn run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Does the VA HISA grant cover the full cost of a stairlift?

For a straight rail — often yes. The HISA grant pays up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities and up to $2,000 for non-service-connected, directly to us after a prescription from your VA provider. Most straight installs in Waldorf fall within the $6,800 cap. For curved rails or platform lifts that exceed the cap, many Charles County families combine HISA with the Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors Program or our 0% financing. We prefill VA Form 10-0103 and bring it to the first assessment. Call the VA Maryland Health Care System at 1-800-463-6295 to start.

Does Maryland Medicaid cover stairlifts through Community First Choice?

Yes. Community First Choice classifies stairlifts as environmental accessibility adaptations under the 1915(k) state plan option — meaning there is no fixed waiver slot cap. Eligibility requires Maryland residency, Medicaid eligibility, and a nursing-facility level of care assessment by a Supports Planner. The entry point is Maryland Access Point at 1-844-627-5465. For Charles County, the local office is the Department of Aging and Human Services at 301-934-0103. We are a credentialed CFC provider. Your Supports Planner writes the stairlift into the plan of service and Medicaid pays us directly.

Are there grants specifically for Charles County homeowners?

The Maryland Accessible Homes for Seniors Program through DHCD offers grants up to $25,000 to finance accessibility modifications for senior homeowners. You must be 55 or older, own the home, and have a physician or occupational therapist document the modification as necessary. Call DHCD at 301-429-7852. This program stacks with HISA — we have helped Charles County veterans combine both to fully cover a platform lift at zero out-of-pocket cost.

A word from Luis

Waldorf is a military-commuter town built in two waves — the Pinefield and St. Charles subdivisions from the 1970s and 1980s, and the North Pointe and Fieldside developments from the 2000s. The first wave is where the stairlift calls come from. A retired Navy civilian from Indian Head whose knees gave out after 30 years on concrete floors. A military spouse in St. Charles whose husband is at Walter Reed and she needs the stairs working before he comes home.

My job is straightforward: drive to your house, measure your stairs, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days. No pressure. If you qualify for a VA HISA grant, I bring the paperwork with me on the first visit.
