Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Vallejo's Victorian hills, wartime cottages, and mid-century split-levels.

Over 65% of the stairlifts we install across Vallejo are straight rails. The range of housing here is wider than most Bay Area cities -- steep Victorian runs in the Heritage District, eight-tread half-flights in Bay Terrace ranch homes, modern wide stairs in Glen Cove and Hiddenbrooke. The rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold flat, and every Vallejo unit ships with an IP54-sealed motor housing and stainless fasteners rated for Carquinez Strait salt air. Most installs wrap in under five hours.

Stairlift Service Across Solano County

Solano County, CA

From the steep Victorian staircases of the Architectural Heritage District -- where Queen Anne and Eastlake homes built between 1860 and 1890 have narrow treads, original fir banisters, and stair angles that exceed modern code -- to the split-level ranch entries in South Vallejo and Bay Terrace built during the Navy's mid-century expansion, our team has measured every staircase style this city produces. We know which Saint Vincent's Hill Craftsman bungalows have the 28-inch stair width that requires a slim-profile rail, which Glen Cove homes built after 1983 have the wide modern runs that install in three hours, and which Hiddenbrooke Mediterranean-style floor plans have the curved foyer staircase that only works with a custom-fabricated rail.

Because Solano County borders Contra Costa and Napa, we also staff dedicated coverage for Benicia, American Canyon, Hercules, Pinole, and Rodeo -- so you never wait on a tech driving down from Sacramento.

Architectural Heritage District Victorian -- straight rail on original oak treads

Architectural Heritage District, CA Installed March 2026

An 1887 Queen Anne Victorian in the Architectural Heritage District with original white oak treads, an Eastlake-style banister with hand-turned spindles, and a staircase so steep the risers measure nine inches -- well above modern code. Mrs. Jamison's granddaughter found us after her grandmother fell on the third step from the top and fractured her hip at NorthBay Medical Center. The staircase is narrow -- 30 inches wall to banister -- so we specified the slim-profile rail that leaves 24 inches of clear walk-through width on every tread. The rail is bolted into the oak treads with brass-capped fasteners that match the original Eastlake hardware. Mrs. Jamison's first words after the test ride: 'Why did I wait two years?' She's lived in this house since 1971 and has no interest in leaving it.

Hiddenbrooke Mediterranean -- curved rail past the foyer's upper landing turn

Hiddenbrooke, CA Installed February 2026

A 2003 Mediterranean-style home in Hiddenbrooke with a sweeping foyer staircase that curves 90 degrees at the upper landing before opening onto the bedroom hallway. A straight rail was geometrically impossible. We laser-scanned the full staircase during the first visit, custom-fabricated a curved rail that follows the arc of the stucco half-wall past the landing, and installed a swivel-exit seat so Mrs. Reyes steps off facing the hallway instead of the top tread. The trickiest detail was matching the rail finish to the wrought-iron banister color the builder used throughout the foyer -- we specified a dark bronze powder coat that blends with the Mediterranean hardware. Mrs. Reyes hosted her book club two weeks later and nobody mentioned the lift until she pointed it out.

South Vallejo wartime cottage -- straight rail on stone-tile entry stairs

South Vallejo, CA Installed January 2026

A 1943 wartime cottage in South Vallejo built for Mare Island shipyard workers during the Navy's WWII expansion -- original stone-tile entry stairs with a concrete half-wall and no interior handrail. Mr. Alcantara is 78, a retired machinist who worked at the shipyard until it closed in 1996, and he'd been managing the stairs by gripping the wall with both hands since a knee replacement two years ago. The stone treads had shifted unevenly over 83 years of Solano County settling, with the second step sitting a quarter-inch low. We shimmed the rail brackets with marine-grade stainless spacers, bolted through the stone tile into the concrete substrate, and confirmed a level ride at every bracket point. Mr. Alcantara told us the stairs hadn't been this easy since the 1980s.

Glen Cove -- weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone paver porch steps

Glen Cove, CA Installed December 2025

A 1990 home in Glen Cove with a raised front porch and six stone paver steps leading up from the driveway -- no handrail, no ramp space, and a direct line of salt air from the Carquinez Strait less than two miles away. Mrs. Washington uses a rollator after a stroke and couldn't manage the front steps without her husband supporting her on both sides. We mounted an outdoor-rated straight rail with stainless-steel anchor bolts and marine-grade rail coating -- the same corrosion package we use on every Vallejo install within five miles of the waterfront. The motor housing is sealed to IP55, and we added a UV-resistant seat cover for the North Bay sun. The unit has run through a full winter of Strait fog, rain, and morning salt dew without a service call. Standard zinc hardware would have pitted by March.

Bay Terrace split-level -- straight rail over carpeted half-flight stairs

Bay Terrace, CA Installed November 2025

A 1958 split-level ranch in Bay Terrace with carpeted half-flight stairs from the entry to the main living level -- the most common staircase layout in Vallejo's mid-century Navy housing. Mrs. Torres is 84, a Navy widow whose husband served at Mare Island for 22 years, and she qualified for the VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation survivor benefit that helped offset the cost. The stairs are only eight treads but the carpet was thick shag over plywood -- we bolted the rail through the carpet into the subtread without cutting or tearing the pile. The seat folds flat against the wall so her grandson can still run up and down around her. Mrs. Torres told us her husband would have approved. She's been riding it twice a day since November.

Platform Lift

Saint Vincent's Hill -- indoor wheelchair platform lift with safety-yellow edge markings

Saint Vincent's Hill, CA Installed October 2025

A 1912 Craftsman bungalow on Saint Vincent's Hill where the front entry opens onto a half-flight of stairs to the main living level -- a layout that made wheelchair access impossible without two people lifting. Mr. Mercado is a retired Navy electrician who served at Mare Island and uses a power wheelchair after a service-connected spinal injury. His VA provider at the Mare Island VA Clinic on Mare Island Way wrote the HISA prescription, we prefilled VA Form 10-0103, and the grant covered the full cost of a vertical platform lift with safety-yellow edge markings on the platform and upper landing. The lift carries his wheelchair straight up to the main floor in about 12 seconds. We conducted the entire consultation in Spanish at the family's request -- Luis walked them through every operating instruction, the emergency lowering procedure, and the VA paperwork. The Mare Island VA Clinic prosthetics team approved payment within six weeks.

Common Questions

Everything Vallejo Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Vallejo right now?

Straight rails in standard Vallejo homes -- the Bay Terrace split-levels, Glen Cove single-stories with entry stairs, the South Vallejo wartime cottages -- run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Hiddenbrooke foyer staircases, Heritage District Victorian landing turns, and split-level geometry run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-fabricated to your exact staircase. Outdoor models sealed for Carquinez Strait salt air run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, IP54-sealed motor, and the first service visit.

Is Vallejo more expensive than other North Bay cities?

Equipment prices are identical across Solano County -- we don't inflate quotes for Hiddenbrooke addresses or discount for South Vallejo. What occasionally varies is install labor for unusual conditions: shimming brackets on 1880s Heritage District Victorians with settled treads, routing curved rails past original fir banisters in Saint Vincent's Hill Craftsmans, and the marine-grade stainless fastener package that ships standard on every Vallejo install within city limits due to salt air exposure. That corrosion package is included -- not a line-item upcharge.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service or Navy paperwork help?

Neither. Every Solano County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request -- Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families across Vallejo, Fairfield, and Suisun City through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. VA HISA paperwork is part of our standard service for enrolled veterans -- we prefill VA Form 10-0103 and coordinate directly with the Mare Island VA Clinic prosthetics team. Zero surcharge for either.

Is a certified refurbished stairlift an option for Vallejo homes?

For straight staircases -- which cover most of Vallejo's mid-century Bay Terrace ranches, South Vallejo cottages, and Glen Cove single-stories -- a factory-reconditioned unit can save 30-40% off a new install. Our refurbished straight rails come with new upholstery, new batteries, marine-grade stainless fasteners for salt-air protection, and a full 2-year warranty. Curved rails cannot be refurbished because every rail is custom-fabricated for a specific staircase geometry. Ask about current refurbished inventory during the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Vallejo families call me for one of two reasons: a Victorian in the Heritage District or Saint Vincent's Hill where the original stairs are steep, narrow, and irreplaceable -- or a Navy family on Mare Island or near Travis AFB who needs the HISA paperwork handled correctly the first time. Both conversations start the same way: I drive to your house, measure once, and give you a written price honored for 30 days.

This city was California's first state capital and the Navy's first West Coast base. The houses here have history. We treat them accordingly. En espanol si lo prefiere.
