Stairlift Service Across Contra Costa County

Contra Costa County, CA

From the Victorian and Edwardian homes of Point Richmond along Washington Avenue — where steep, narrow stairs and original fir banisters are standard — to the 1920s bungalows in the Iron Triangle between Macdonald Avenue and Barrett Avenue, where pier-and-post foundations have settled unevenly over a century, our team has mapped every stair configuration in the city. We know which Point Richmond blocks have the steepest runs, which Atchison Village cottages have 29-inch-wide stairs from their Kaiser Shipyard origins, and which Hilltop ranches need split-level entry lifts. Richmond Annex, Fairmede-Hilltop, Parchester Village, and Marina Bay are all covered from the same Richmond team, same day.

Straight

Richmond Annex Craftsman — straight rail on original oak treads

Richmond Annex, CA Installed March 2026

A 1938 Craftsman bungalow in the Richmond Annex with original quarter-sawn oak treads and a Douglas fir banister the family had refinished twice over 85 years. We measured a clean 14-foot straight run, confirmed the oak treads were solid enough to anchor without reinforcement, and color-matched the rail finish to the existing grain. Install took three and a half hours. Mrs. Nakamura rode it to her bedroom that evening for the first time in 16 days.

1908 Point Richmond Victorian — curved rail past the original fir banister

Point Richmond, CA Installed February 2026

A 1908 Victorian on West Richmond Avenue in Point Richmond with a sweeping upper landing turn and original Douglas fir banister. Two other companies said the stairs needed rebuilding first. We laser-scanned the staircase, shimmed the rail brackets to compensate for pier-and-post foundation settlement, and fabricated a curved rail that threads past the original newel post and wraps the upper landing. Mr. Gallagher, 84, had been sleeping in the parlor since Thanksgiving. He was back in his own bedroom the night of the install.

Atchison Village wartime cottage — slim-profile rail in a compact stairway

Atchison Village, CA Installed January 2026

A WWII-era worker cottage in Atchison Village — part of the original Kaiser Shipyard housing built in 1943. The stairs are 29 inches wide with stone-trimmed treads in a compact, traditional interior. Mr. Jefferson is 79 and has lived in the house since 1972. We fitted the slimmest rail in our catalog with a folding footrest, confirmed 24 inches of clear walkway with the chair parked near the wooden sideboard at the base, and installed in three hours.

Iron Triangle bungalow — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

Iron Triangle, CA Installed December 2025

A 1924 bungalow on Bissell Avenue in the Iron Triangle with a raised front porch, six exterior steps over stone paving, and no rear entry without stairs. Sra. Mendoza is 76 and had been essentially housebound after a hip replacement. Luis conducted the entire consultation in Spanish. We sealed the motor housing to IP55, applied marine-grade rail coating for the San Pablo Bay fog cycle, and bolted the rail into the stone paving with chemical-set anchors. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat blends with the porch trim.

Hilltop ranch — straight rail over wall-to-wall carpet

Hilltop, CA Installed November 2025

A 1974 ranch home on the Hilltop ridge with wall-to-wall carpet over plywood subfloor and a clean 13-foot straight run from the split-level entry to the main living area. Mr. Chen had a stroke in September 2025 and the seven carpeted steps between the front door and the kitchen were a twice-daily risk. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the plywood subfloor with backing plates, and the seat upholstery blends with the carpet tones at the landing.

Platform Lift

Richmond Annex — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Richmond Annex, CA Installed October 2025

A 1962 split-level in the Richmond Annex where Mr. Williams, a 71-year-old retired longshoreman who uses a power wheelchair full-time, needed to reach the upper living area from the entry foyer. A seated stairlift was not an option because transferring out of the wheelchair twice per trip was medically inadvisable. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift along the stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrail, and automatic folding ramp at the lower level. The warm terracotta walls frame the installation against the window-lit stairwell. Mr. Williams rolls on and off without assistance.

Common Questions

Everything Richmond Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Richmond, CA right now?

Straight rails in standard Richmond homes — the ranches up on Hilltop, the Craftsman bungalows in Richmond Annex, the postwar cottages in Atchison Village — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Point Richmond Victorians and the L-shaped stairs in older Iron Triangle bungalows, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches and exterior entry stairs run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Bay Area stairlift prices higher than the rest of California?

Equipment prices are identical across the state — we don't inflate quotes for East Bay addresses. What can add modest cost is unusual install conditions: compensating rail mounts for foundation-settled treads in pre-1940s Iron Triangle homes, or routing a new dedicated outlet in a Point Richmond Victorian where the nearest plug is 10 feet from the staircase. We tell you the line items upfront. No Bay Area surcharges.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language consultations?

No. Every Contra Costa County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of families in Richmond's Iron Triangle and North Richmond through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Does the quote include everything or are there hidden fees?

The written quote includes the rail, the seat unit, all mounting hardware, installation labor, battery backup, a full safety inspection, and the first annual service visit. There are no travel fees within Contra Costa County. The only variable is electrical: if your staircase doesn't have a standard outlet within 6 feet, we'll run one at cost — typically $150 to $250 — and we'll tell you before you sign anything.

A word from Luis

Most Richmond families call me after someone has already stopped using the upstairs bedrooms — a parent recovering from knee surgery in a Point Richmond Victorian who's been sleeping on the couch for three weeks, or an 80-year-old in a WWII-era Atchison Village bungalow whose daughter in Oakland noticed the grab marks on the walls during a Sunday visit.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
