Stairlift Service Across Pierce County

Pierce County, WA

The Stadium District is Tacoma’s premier historic neighborhood — 1890s–1920s homes with original fir treads and banisters homeowners treat as architectural landmarks. Rails bolt into the treads, never the banister. North End split-levels from the 1970s are where we install the most curved rails; the bungalows are almost always slim-profile straight runs. Hilltop has the most affordable housing and the highest rate of COPES-funded installs. Proctor District foursquares and Old Town waterfront homes round out the core coverage — Old Town outdoor installs get the full marine-grade package with stainless fasteners and a 12-month corrosion follow-up.

Straight

Stadium District craftsman — straight rail color-matched to century-old Douglas fir

Stadium District, WA Installed March 2026

A 1918 craftsman in the Stadium District with original Douglas fir treads and a quarter-sawn oak banister the family refused to let anyone touch. We brought finish samples on the first visit, matched the rail to the fir grain, and bolted the straight rail into the treads without grazing a single spindle. Mrs. Sullivan’s garden club met three times before anyone noticed the lift. The chair folds flat against the wall when parked.

Curved

North End split-level — 90° curved rail, one ride from foyer to bedrooms

North End, WA Installed February 2026

A 1972 split-level in the North End with a 90° landing between the main floor and the upper bedrooms. Two other companies said the Phams would need two separate lifts. We scanned the entire staircase, fabricated a single curved rail that carries from the lower foyer to the upper hallway in one continuous ride, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. Mr. Pham’s mother has used it every day since February without a single issue.

Proctor District foursquare — straight rail beside original built-in sideboard

Proctor District, WA Installed January 2026

A 1924 foursquare in the Proctor District with stone-tile entry treads and an original built-in wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs. Mrs. Lindström was firm: the sideboard stays, the banister stays, and nothing gets scratched. We bolted the straight rail into the treads, routed the track to clear the sideboard by two inches, and the folded chair parks flush against the wall. Zero damage to any original detail.

Outdoor

Old Town waterfront — marine-grade outdoor lift on raised porch

Old Town, WA Installed December 2025

A 1940s bungalow near Old Town with a raised front porch and stone-paved exterior steps — the only path from the driveway to the front door. Mr. Park is a retired Navy veteran who spent 24 years at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. His HISA grant through the American Lake VA campus covered nearly the entire cost. We anchored the rail into the concrete steps with 316 stainless-steel fasteners, sealed the motor housing to IP55, and applied marine-grade epoxy coating. Two Puget Sound winters later — not a spot of corrosion.

Hilltop two-story — straight rail on carpeted stairs, COPES-funded

Hilltop, WA Installed November 2025

A 1948 two-story in Hilltop with 14 carpeted treads and a landing that drops straight into the upstairs hallway. Mrs. Johnson qualified for the COPES waiver through DSHS-ALTSA — we coordinated with her HCS case manager, got the stairlift written into the care plan, and the state paid the provider directly. She never wrote a check. The straight rail bolts through the carpet into the treads beneath, and the swivel-exit seat lets her step off directly onto the upstairs landing.

Platform Lift

North End split-entry — indoor wheelchair platform lift with safety edges

North End, WA Installed October 2025

The Riveras’ son was injured while stationed at JBLM and now uses a power wheelchair. The North End split-entry home has five steps from the garage level to the main floor. We installed an inclined platform lift with yellow high-visibility safety edges on every border, controls at wheelchair height on both levels, and an automatic safety gate that locks before the platform moves. He rolls on, presses one button, and rolls off on the main floor. HISA grant covered the full cost.

Common Questions

Everything Tacoma Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Tacoma right now?

Straight rails in standard Tacoma homes — the North End bungalows, the Hilltop working-class homes, the Proctor District foursquares — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level landing turns common in the North End and across Pierce County run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor models for raised porches and waterfront entries near Old Town run $4,000 to $7,500 with marine-grade coating standard. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Tacoma than Seattle?

Equipment prices are identical across King and Pierce counties — we don’t inflate quotes for a Seattle address or discount for a Tacoma one. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: century-old fir treads in Stadium District homes that require color-matched rail finishes, and waterfront outdoor installs near Old Town that get the full marine-grade package. We itemize everything. No hidden premiums.

Does the marine-grade rail coating cost extra?

No. Every outdoor install in western Washington ships with marine-grade epoxy rail coating, 316 stainless-steel fasteners rated for saltwater exposure, a sealed IP55 motor housing, and a 12-month corrosion follow-up call as baseline spec. The national chains charge $300–$400 for the same coating as an add-on. We include it because an outdoor rail near Puget Sound without marine coating starts corroding within 18 months.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift available in Tacoma?

Used straight rails run $1,500 to $2,800 installed — roughly half the cost of new. We recondition every unit in-house: new batteries, new upholstery, factory-tested motor and safety sensors. Curved rails cannot be reused because every curved track is fabricated to one specific staircase. If your Hilltop two-story or Proctor District foursquare has a standard straight run, a refurbished unit is a solid option with the same labor warranty and 24-hour service coverage.

A word from Luis

Tacoma calls split into two categories — a family in a Stadium District craftsman with original Douglas fir treads they refuse to let anyone drill into carelessly, or a homeowner near the Old Town waterfront who needs an outdoor rail that survives Puget Sound salt air and six months of rain. I drive out within 24 hours, measure every tread, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days.

Marine-grade coating is standard on every outdoor install — Puget Sound air corrodes off-the-shelf hardware in two winters, so we include it as baseline spec. I also handle COPES waiver paperwork through DSHS-ALTSA and VA HISA applications for Pierce County veterans at the American Lake campus. En español si lo prefiere.
