Stairlift Service Across Pierce County

Pierce County, WA

Tillicum’s 1950s military housing sits minutes from American Lake VA Medical Center — narrow stairwells in postwar ranches make our slim-profile rail the most common spec here, and HISA-funded installs outnumber any other Lakewood neighborhood. Springbrook’s split-levels from the 1960s through 1980s almost always need a curved rail through the mid-landing turn. Oakbrook’s lakeside colonials along American Lake and Gravelly Lake get the full marine-grade outdoor treatment because lake moisture accelerates corrosion. Woodbrook’s finished basements house the only walk-in showers in many older homes, so straight rails to the lower level keep daily routines intact. Near Lakewood Towne Center, 1980s two-stories with steep risers are the most common swivel-exit seat installs we write. We also cover University Place, Steilacoom, and Parkland with no travel fees.

Springbrook split-level — straight rail on original hardwood treads

Springbrook, WA Installed March 2026

A 1968 split-level in Springbrook with dark hardwood open-tread stairs and an oak banister Mrs. Torkelson had maintained for decades. After a fall in January during the ice storm that knocked out power across south Pierce County, her daughter called. We bolted a straight rail to the right side of the hardwood treads — no wall contact, no banister modification — with the beige seat parked at the bottom landing where it folds out of the walkway. The warm wood tones of the original staircase stayed untouched. Battery backup kept her moving through the next outage in February.

Tillicum colonial — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Tillicum, WA Installed February 2026

A two-story colonial in Tillicum, two miles from American Lake VA Medical Center, with a staircase that curves 90 degrees at the upper hallway past a half-wall balustrade. Mr. Dawson served 22 years in the Army and a service-connected knee injury made the upper floor unreachable after his second surgery. We laser-scanned the geometry, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper landing so he steps off onto flat hallway floor. His VA provider at American Lake prescribed the modification and the $6,800 HISA grant covered the full cost.

Oakbrook cottage — straight rail on stone treads in a compact stairway

Oakbrook, WA Installed January 2026

A compact 1972 cottage-style home in Oakbrook near American Lake with stone-tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs that Mrs. Purcell refused to move. We fitted a straight rail with a brown-upholstered seat that folds flat against the wall, clearing both the sideboard and the potted fern she keeps on top of it. The stone treads required masonry anchors drilled into the substrate — standard on Pierce County tile and stone stairs. The traditional Mediterranean feel of the stairway stayed intact.

Lake City veteran — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry

Lake City, WA Installed December 2025

A retired Marine gunnery sergeant who settled in the Lake City area of Lakewood after separating from JBLM. His raised front porch had rough natural stone paving and six exterior steps with no handrail — impossible after spinal and knee injuries. We anchored a cream-colored outdoor seat into the stone paving with stainless-steel fasteners, sealed the motor housing to IP55 for direct rain, and installed the weather cover for Puget Sound winters. The $6,800 HISA grant through the American Lake VA campus covered the full cost. Mr. Orozco uses the front entry independently for the first time in over a year.

Woodbrook ranch — straight rail on carpeted stairs to the lower level

Woodbrook, WA Installed November 2025

A 1975 ranch in Woodbrook with carpeted stairs leading to a finished lower level that holds the only walk-in shower in the house. Mrs. Sandoval’s daughter called after her mother stopped using the basement altogether. We bolted a straight rail through the carpet into the plywood subtread and mounted a brown-upholstered seat that blends with the existing carpet tone. The folding footrest clears the landing doorway. At the bottom, the tiled floor of the lower hallway gives her a stable step-off point. Mrs. Sandoval does her own laundry again — her daughter calls that the real win.

Platform Lift

Lakewood Towne Center — indoor wheelchair platform lift for power chair user

Lakewood Towne Center, WA Installed October 2025

A 1986 two-story near Lakewood Towne Center where Mrs. Kwan’s mother uses a power wheelchair full-time after a fall at her own home in Tacoma. A seat-based stairlift was not an option — the wheelchair had to travel with her. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges on every moving surface, and a white handrail along the wall. The platform carries the wheelchair and occupant from the main floor to the upper hallway in a single ride. She uses it four to five times a day and has not attempted the stairs on foot in six months.

Common Questions

Everything Lakewood Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Lakewood right now?

Straight rails in standard Lakewood homes — the Tillicum postwar ranches, the Oakbrook lakeside colonials, the Springbrook townhouses — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level landing turns common in Springbrook and older Woodbrook subdivisions run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models with full marine-grade coating run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Is pricing different in Lakewood than Tacoma or University Place?

Equipment pricing is identical across all of Pierce County — Lakewood, Tacoma, University Place, Steilacoom, DuPont, Puyallup. We do not charge a zip-code premium. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: lake-moisture corrosion prep on Oakbrook and Gravelly Lake homes, dedicated-circuit wiring in older Tillicum homes that lack a 120V outlet near the staircase, and homes where the L&I electrical permit adds a week to the timeline. Every line item is on the quote before you sign.

Do you offer a military discount for JBLM families?

We do not discount the equipment — but we process VA HISA grants at no charge and waive the assessment fee for any active-duty, retired, or veteran household within 15 miles of JBLM. More than 60 Lakewood-area veterans have used the HISA grant through our office via the American Lake VA campus. If you qualify for the full $6,800 service-connected HISA amount, a straight rail is often covered entirely.

Are there hidden fees for condo or HOA communities?

Our quote includes the HOA or condo board paperwork we handle for you. Washington’s Reasonable Accommodation rules under the Washington Law Against Discrimination (RCW 49.60) generally require associations to approve accessibility equipment for disabled residents. We have templated packets for the common HOA communities around Lakewood Towne Center and the lakefront associations near American Lake and Gravelly Lake. No surprise fees.

A word from Luis

Most Lakewood families call me after something has already happened — a slip on the carpeted treads in a 1960s Springbrook ranch, a retired sergeant major at JBLM who hasn’t been upstairs in three months after back surgery, a daughter in Seattle worried about her father in the same Tillicum house he’s lived in since he separated from the Army in 1994.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
