Straight Stairlift — Santa Maria, CA

Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Santa Maria Valley's postwar ranch homes and 1970s tract two-stories.

Over 70 percent of the stairlifts we install in the Santa Maria Valley are straight rails. The rail bolts to your stair treads — never into the wall — and the battery backup keeps you moving through any Central Coast power interruption. Most Santa Maria installs wrap in under four hours, and the seat folds flat so the rest of the family uses the stairs without squeezing past.

1962 Broadway Corridor ranch — straight rail on original red oak treads

Broadway Corridor, CA Installed March 2026

A 1962 ranch-style two-story on the Broadway Corridor with original red oak treads that had been refinished once in 1989 and never touched since. Mrs. Garza's son called us after she fell on the second step from the top — she had been gripping the banister with both hands for months and finally lost her hold. We arrived the next day, measured a clean 13-foot straight run, and bolted the rail into the treads without disturbing the oak finish or the simple wooden banister. The seat folds flat so her grandson can still carry laundry up and down without squeezing past. Mrs. Garza rode it for the first time while her son filmed on his phone. She told him to stop recording and let her enjoy it.

Preisker Park split-level — curved rail with 90-degree upper-landing turn

Preisker Park, CA Installed February 2026

A 1957 split-level near Preisker Park with the classic Santa Maria Valley layout — five steps from the entry to the main floor, a 90-degree landing turn, then seven more steps to the bedrooms. Mr. Sullivan is a retired Air Force master sergeant who spent 22 years at Vandenberg. After his second knee replacement at Marian Regional Medical Center, the stairs became the one thing standing between him and his upstairs workshop. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that carries him from the entry to the upper hallway in one continuous ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top. His wife said he was back in his workshop that same evening.

West Main cottage — straight rail on stone-faced interior stairs from the oil-boom era

West Main, CA Installed January 2026

A 1955 cottage on West Main Street with an interior staircase clad in decorative stone veneer — a style popular in Santa Maria Valley homes from the oil-boom building era. The stone facing runs along both stringer walls, and the treads are poured concrete with a thin flagstone cap. Two competitors wanted to strip the stone before mounting. We anchored our brackets through the flagstone caps into the concrete substrate without removing or cracking a single piece. The entire assessment and walkthrough happened in Spanish — Mr. Reyes's mother has lived in this house since 1973 and speaks only Spanish. Luis explained every button twice at her pace. She told him she wished all companies sent someone who actually spoke her language.

Enos Ranch area — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry steps for a Vandenberg veteran

Enos Ranch, CA Installed December 2025

A newer two-story in the Enos Ranch area with six exterior stone-paved entry steps and a covered front landing. Mr. Kowalski is a former Vandenberg missile technician who qualified for a HISA grant through the VA — his care is managed through the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, which covers Santa Barbara County. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and coordinated with his VA provider at the Santa Maria VA Clinic on East Main Street. The outdoor rail is UV-coated for the Central Coast sun and dust-sealed against the agricultural particulate that drifts across the Santa Maria Valley from the surrounding strawberry and broccoli fields. He keeps the rail cleaner than his truck.

Battles-Stowell neighborhood — straight rail on deep-pile carpeted stairs in a 1974 tract home

Battles-Stowell, CA Installed November 2025

A 1974 two-story in the Battles-Stowell neighborhood with thick wall-to-wall carpet on every tread — the kind of plush shag that came standard in Santa Maria Valley tract homes from that era. Mrs. Tanaka's daughter drove up from Thousand Oaks for the assessment because her mother had been avoiding the upstairs entirely after a hip replacement at Marian Regional. We mounted the rail brackets through the carpet and padding directly into the wooden treads beneath — no cuts, no exposed hardware, no change to the carpet appearance. The chair folds flat against the wall at the bottom so the front door still opens fully. Mrs. Tanaka's daughter called the following week to say her mother was using the upstairs bathroom again for the first time in two months.

Platform Lift

Downtown Santa Maria — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Downtown, CA Installed October 2025

A converted Craftsman bungalow near the Town Center in Downtown Santa Maria where Mr. Hernandez uses a power wheelchair after a farming accident left him with a T8 spinal cord injury 14 years ago. The house has a half-level change between the original living area and a 1980s addition — five steps with no room for a ramp without blocking the hallway to the kitchen. We installed an enclosed indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges around the platform perimeter and interlocked gates at both levels. The lift carries Mr. Hernandez and his 260-lb power chair vertically in a single ride. The yellow edge markings meet California residential accessibility standards for platform lifts. His wife said the remodel quote to eliminate the steps was $38,000 — the platform lift was a fraction of that and took a day and a half.

Common Questions

Everything Santa Maria Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Santa Maria right now?

Straight rails in standard Santa Maria homes — the 1960s ranches along Broadway, the 1974 tract two-stories in Battles-Stowell, the newer builds near Enos Ranch — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level homes with landing turns, very common in the Preisker Park area and older blocks south of Betteravia, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front entries and concrete porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes install, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Santa Maria than in Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo?

Equipment prices are the same across our Central Coast coverage area. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions — through-stone anchoring in older West Main cottages, split-level curved fabrication, or HOA coordination in newer Enos Ranch communities. We itemize everything upfront. No surprise surcharges because your address is in a newer subdivision or a rural stretch south of Betteravia.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Santa Maria Valley assessment can be conducted entirely in Spanish — Luis handles consultations, control walkthroughs, consent forms, and printed manuals in the homeowner's preferred language. Zero surcharge. In a valley where a large share of the senior population speaks Spanish at home, this is not a special service — it is how we operate.

Any hidden fees for Orcutt or Nipomo installs?

No travel fees anywhere in the Santa Maria Valley. Orcutt, Nipomo, Guadalupe, and all communities between Santa Maria and the San Luis Obispo county line are within our standard coverage zone. Same pricing, same-day assessment availability, same installer. No mileage surcharge for rural addresses south of Betteravia or along Route 1.

A word from Luis

Santa Maria families call me for one of three reasons — a parent who has not been upstairs in weeks after a fall in one of those postwar ranch two-stories along Battles Road, a Vandenberg retiree whose knees finally gave out, or an adult child in LA trying to figure out how to keep their mother in the family home on West Main instead of moving her into assisted living. I have seen every staircase the Santa Maria Valley builds, and I speak the language your family speaks.
