Stairlift Service Across Rutland County

Rutland County, VT

We install stairlifts throughout Rutland City and the surrounding towns. Nearly half the housing stock predates 1940 — Downtown Historic District Victorians off Merchants Row, Northwest Neighborhood colonials around Crescent and Grove streets, and homes near Pine Hill Park on the city's northeast side. In the Meadow Street area, 1960s split-levels take a straight rail on carpet, while Center Street's tall Italianates often hide a two-step landing turn that calls for a curved rail. We also cover Rutland Town, Proctor (5 mi), Pittsford (8 mi), Wallingford (10 mi), Killington (10 mi), and Castleton (10 mi).

Straight

Downtown Historic District — straight rail on original oak treads

Downtown Historic District, VT Installed March 2026

The Hadleys' 1890s home in the Downtown Historic District off Merchants Row has original oak treads worn smooth over a century. Luis measured the 13-foot straight run and bolted the rail to the treads — the plaster walls stayed untouched. The beige seat parks at the bottom landing, and Mr. Hadley reaches the upstairs bedroom on his own again for the first time since his stroke.

Northwest Neighborhood — curved rail at the upper landing

Northwest Neighborhood, VT Installed January 2026

The Whitcombs' Italianate in the Northwest Neighborhood has a 90-degree turn at the upper landing with a chandelier right above it. Luis mapped the radius with the laser tool, and the custom curved rail came back from the factory bent to match. The brown seat parks at the top floor. The upstairs bedrooms, closed off for a year, are back in daily use.

Pine Hill Park area — compact straight rail by the sideboard

Pine Hill Park area, VT Installed April 2026

The Beauchamps' compact cottage near Pine Hill Park has stone tile treads and a tight footprint — the staircase runs past a wooden sideboard in the entry. Luis fitted a 12-foot straight rail that hugs the wall, with the brown seat resting at the bottom beside the cabinet. The tile treads took the bolts without cracking, and Mrs. Beauchamp reaches the second floor without help.

Outdoor

Northeast Rutland — outdoor rail on the porch steps

Northeast Rutland, VT Installed October 2025

The Lafonds' home in Northeast Rutland needed an outdoor lift for the front porch — five granite steps up from a stone-paved walkway, fully exposed to Vermont winters. Luis installed an IP55-rated outdoor rail with a cream seat, sealed against snow melt and road salt. A heated battery pack keeps it charged through sub-zero nights, and it ran straight through January's ice storm without a hiccup.

Meadow Street area — carpeted straight rail matching the treads

Meadow Street area, VT Installed February 2026

The Choquettes' 1960s split-level in the Meadow Street area has wall-to-wall carpeted treads in a warm brown that matches the seat upholstery. Luis ran a 14-foot straight rail with the bolts going through the carpet into the sub-treads — no wall mounting at all. The tiled floor at the base stays open and walkable, and Mrs. Choquette's mother gets upstairs without resting halfway.

Platform Lift

West Street area — indoor wheelchair platform lift

West Street area, VT Installed May 2026

The Tremblays' son uses a wheelchair full-time, and their 1960s colonial in the West Street area had no first-floor bedroom. Luis installed an inclined platform lift alongside the stairs — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, 600 lb capacity. The platform folds flat against the wall when idle so the stairs stay walkable. He rolls on, locks the chair, and rides up himself in under a minute.

Common Questions

Everything Rutland Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Rutland, Vermont?

Straight stairlifts start at $2,800 installed, including the rail, seat, mounting hardware, and the roughly three-hour installation. Curved lifts — needed for about a third of Rutland's pre-1940 homes with landing turns — start at $9,000 because the rail is custom-bent to your staircase. Outdoor lifts start at $4,000, and heavy-duty models rated to 600 lb start at $5,050. We give you a firm price after a free in-home assessment, never a phone estimate.

Is financing available for Rutland residents?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month through lenders we work with directly. The application takes about 10 minutes online or over the phone, and most Rutland customers get an answer the same day. There's no prepayment penalty, so you can pay the balance off early without a fee.

What factors change the price of a stairlift in Rutland?

The main factor is whether your staircase is straight or curved. About half of Rutland's homes were built before 1940, and many have mid-landing turns or winder treads that require a custom-bent rail — that's the jump from $2,800 to $9,000 and up. Rail length, outdoor versus indoor, and weight rating also affect the final number, which we confirm on site.

Does insurance or Medicare cover stairlift costs in Vermont?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — it treats them as home modifications rather than durable medical equipment. However, Vermont's Choices for Care Medicaid waiver covers home modifications, including stairlifts, for those who qualify. Some Medicare Advantage plans add a supplemental home-modification benefit, so it's worth checking your specific plan during the assessment.

A word from Luis

I've put lifts into Rutland homes for over fifteen years — from 1860s Victorians on Center Street to split-levels off Meadow Street. The biggest thing I tell families here is that the stair width usually isn't the problem. It's the turn geometry in these older homes. A lot of the Greek Revivals and Italianates from the marble-boom era have staircases that look straight at first glance but have a two-step turn at the landing. That's a curved-rail install.

We measure it with a laser, it takes about an hour, and the rail comes back from the factory bent to match. The other thing is Vermont winters. Outdoor lifts on porch steps here need to be IP55 weather-sealed and the battery kept above freezing. We use heated battery packs on every outdoor install in Rutland County. No callbacks in February.

Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Rutland's housing stock tells the story — nearly half built before 1940, from marble-boom Italianates downtown to compact colonials in the Northwest Neighborhood. Those older homes have character, but they also have steep staircases, narrow treads, and mid-landing turns that become a daily obstacle as family members age. A stairlift is the difference between giving up the upstairs and keeping the whole house usable.

If you're off Merchants Row, in the Northwest Neighborhood, near Pine Hill Park, or anywhere in the 05701 zip code, we come out for a free assessment — no charge, no obligation, just a firm price on paper. Call (800) 965-0350 or fill out the form. Luis handles every Rutland install personally.
