Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of the Philadelphia rowhouse — tight straight runs in South Philly, Fishtown, and Mayfair.

Over 75% of the stairlifts we install in Philadelphia are this model. The classic 14-to-18-foot-wide rowhouse has a straight-run interior stair right off the front door, usually 12 to 14 treads, and the slim-profile rail bolts into those treads without touching the plaster wall or the original newel post. The seat and footrest fold up out of the way so a grandchild can still run up the same stairs, battery backup keeps the chair moving through the next PECO outage, and most Philadelphia installs wrap in under four hours. Color options match original pine, oak, or walnut banisters common in pre-war Philly construction.

Starting at $2,850 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Philadelphia County

Philadelphia County, PA

From South Philly two-story rowhouses off Passyunk Avenue to Fishtown porch fronts on Girard, from the Society Hill Trinity houses where the interior spiral stair is tighter than most stairlifts can fit to Chestnut Hill Tudors at the top of the hill, our team has mapped every distinct Philadelphia neighborhood. We know which Germantown Victorian twins still have their 19th-century newel posts, which Mount Airy stone twins have the split landing halfway up, which Manayunk blocks (Cresson, Cotton, Carson) sit on a grade so steep the outdoor rail has to be 30% longer than the step count suggests, which Queen Village and Old City addresses fall inside a Philadelphia Historical Commission district, and which Northern Liberties rehabs have new code-compliant stairs on the old rowhouse footprints.

Because Philadelphia is geographically compact but neighborhood-dense, we also staff dedicated installers for the immediate ring — Cheltenham, Bala Cynwyd, Elkins Park, and the Main Line townships — so you never wait on a tech driving in from Bucks or Chester County.

16-foot-wide South Philly rowhouse — rail tucked against the living room wall

South Philadelphia (Passyunk Square), PA Installed March 2026

A 1920s two-story rowhouse on a 16-foot-wide lot just off East Passyunk Avenue — the interior stair is a 13-step straight run immediately inside the front door, one of the most common layouts in the city. Mrs. Ricci had not been down to the living room in six weeks after her hip replacement. We specified the slim-profile Bruno Elan, bolted the rail against the living room side of the treads so her husband could still carry groceries up the opposite side, and parked the chair flush under the upper landing. First ride down, she went straight to the kitchen and made coffee. Consultation conducted half in English, half in Italian, entirely at the kitchen table.

1780 Society Hill Trinity — Harmar Pinnacle threaded through the spiral

Society Hill, PA Installed February 2026

A 1780 Trinity house on a cobbled block in Society Hill — three stories, one room per floor, interior stair a tight winder that three other stairlift companies had already told Dr. Abramson was physically impossible. We specified the Harmar Pinnacle SL600HD with its 11.5-inch folded footprint, laser-scanned the spiral on the first visit, submitted no PHC application (interior-only, not visible from the street), and installed the custom-bent rail in a single six-hour afternoon. The chair clears the half-landing by three-eighths of an inch. Nothing was touched on the original 1780 newel cap.

Fishtown porch front — 6-step marble stoop with cold-weather battery

Fishtown, PA Installed January 2026

A brick porch front on Palmer Street in Fishtown — six worn marble stoop steps from the sidewalk up to the front door, classic Philadelphia post-war layout. Mrs. Kowalski had slipped on the ice the previous January. We mounted the outdoor Bruno Elite to the existing stoop treads with masonry anchors set into the original marble (Philadelphia Historical Commission review not required — Fishtown is not a PHC district), spec'd the cold-weather battery rated to -10°F, and added a keyed call station at the sidewalk so her daughter-in-law could summon the chair from the car. Rode through two January storms since install without a single issue.

1889 Germantown Victorian twin — curved rail around the original newel post

Germantown, PA Installed December 2025

A stone twin on West Walnut Lane in Germantown, built in 1889, with a 19th-century oak newel post the family refused to touch. The interior stair has a quarter-landing turn halfway up where a straight rail simply would not work. We laser-scanned during the first consultation, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel post with one-inch clearance, and installed in a single afternoon. The chair parks at the upper hallway and swivels 90 degrees so Ms. Harrison steps off onto the hall floor, not the top tread. Color-matched to the original oak within one shade.

Cresson Street Manayunk — extra-long rail for the extreme hillside grade

Manayunk, PA Installed November 2025

A brick rowhouse on Cresson Street in Manayunk — one of the steepest residential streets in Philadelphia. The front stoop is only four steps, but the sidewalk itself drops sharply away from the house so the effective rise from curb to front door is closer to eight feet. We spec'd an outdoor rail 30% longer than a flat-site four-step equivalent would need, anchored the lower end into the sidewalk edge with masonry bolts, and added a mid-rail stop. Mr. Delaney, a 78-year-old retired SEPTA operator, now gets from his parked car on the street up to his front door without touching the grade.

Mayfair split-level — swivel-exit seat for the top-landing turn

Mayfair (Northeast Philadelphia), PA Installed October 2025

A 1950s split-level in Mayfair, Northeast Philly — three-bedroom, 12 carpeted treads, tight turn at the top landing. The Nguyens were buying for their 81-year-old mother who had fallen stepping off at the top tread twice in the past year. We installed the Bruno Elan with the swivel-exit seat that rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing so she now steps off onto the hallway carpet, not the edge of the top step. Consultation was bilingual Vietnamese-English at the family's request with the homeowner's son translating. Mother has ridden it twice a day since install without a single stumble.

Common Questions

Everything Philadelphia Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Philadelphia right now?

Straight rails inside a standard Philly rowhouse run $2,800 to $5,500 installed — and a straight rail is what 75% of Philadelphia installs need, because the classic 14-to-18-foot-wide rowhouse has a tight straight-run interior stair off the front door. Curved and tight-turn rails for Society Hill Trinity houses, Germantown Victorians, and Mount Airy twins run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact landing geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for Kensington, Fishtown, and Manayunk front steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Philadelphia prices different from the suburbs?

Equipment prices are identical across the region — we do not inflate quotes for a Rittenhouse or Society Hill address. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual Philly conditions: the Harmar Pinnacle squeeze fit into a Trinity spiral, historic banister preservation on 19th-century Germantown newel posts, Philadelphia Historical Commission review paperwork in designated districts, or a stoop lift on the extreme Manayunk grade where the rail has to be 30% longer than a flat-site equivalent. We quote every line item upfront. No surprise 'Philly premiums.'

Do you charge extra for Spanish, Italian, or Vietnamese service?

No. Every Philadelphia assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual. For Italian-speaking families in Bella Vista and Passyunk Square, and for Vietnamese families around 8th and Washington, we bring a family liaison at no charge. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. In a city this layered, it is the only way to do the job right.

Any hidden fees if my house is in a historic district?

Our quote includes the Philadelphia Historical Commission submission we prepare for you if your address falls inside a designated district — Society Hill, Old City, Rittenhouse-Fitler, Spring Garden, and parts of Queen Village all require PHC review for any exterior-visible change, including a stoop lift on the front steps. Interior lifts on the inside stair never require PHC review. We handle the application, the photographs, and the response to PHC comments at no extra cost. If the Commission requires a paint-matched finish or a specific rail profile, we build that into the original quote so there is no surprise after submission.

A word from Luis

Most Philadelphia families call me after the stoop has already become the problem — a fall on the marble steps out front, a parent who hasn't been down to the living room in weeks because the rowhouse stairs are too narrow for a cane, a daughter in the Northeast worried about her father in a three-story Kensington porch front.

My job is simple: get to your block within 24 hours, measure the staircase (interior or exterior), and give you a written price honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
