Stairlift Service Across McLean County

McLean County, IL

From the established ranch homes in North Normal and the 1960s split-levels in College Hills — where the most common request is a straight carpeted run of 12–14 steps — to the newer construction in Ironwood where wider staircases need a swivel-exit seat, our team has measured McLean County staircases across every subdivision era. We know which Greenbriar homes have the standard 36-inch run that installs in three hours, which Uptown Normal Victorians have the narrow stair that requires the slim-profile rail, and which Parkside ranches need outdoor entry lifts. We also serve Bloomington directly — five miles southwest on I-55 — at the same pricing, plus Towanda, Hudson, and rural McLean County towns with no mileage surcharge.

Straight

North Normal 1968 ranch — straight rail on carpeted treads, swivel-exit at top landing

North Normal, IL Installed March 2026

A 1968 ranch in North Normal with 13 carpeted treads and dark hardwood-tone stairs. Mrs. Callahan's daughter, who teaches at ISU, had watched her mother grip the top newel post for leverage every time she reached the landing and called us after a near-fall. We bolted a straight rail to the treads on the right side, installed a powered swivel-exit seat that rotates 90° at the upper landing, and confirmed the seat position with her home health aide present. The warm-toned seat parks at the bottom of the stairway when not in use. She's been riding it twice daily since March.

College Hills 1971 split-level — curved rail through a 90° turn at the upper landing

College Hills, IL Installed February 2026

A 1971 split-level in College Hills with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing near a half-wall balustrade. Mr. Bachmann's orthopedic surgeon at OSF St. Joseph had cleared him to go home from a hip replacement only on the condition that he didn't take unsupported stairs. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the upper landing, and installed a brown-upholstered seat that parks at the top floor so he steps directly onto the hallway. The modern interior with its chandelier and framed art stayed untouched. He was discharged home on schedule.

Greenbriar 1982 cottage — straight rail on stone-tile treads in a compact stairway

Greenbriar, IL Installed January 2026

A 1982 cottage-style home in the Greenbriar subdivision with original stone-tile treads and a compact stairway next to a wooden sideboard. The Heyworth family called Monday, we measured that afternoon and confirmed the stone treads could accept mounting hardware without reinforcement. The brown-upholstered seat was selected to complement the traditional interior. In this tight space, the rail sits close to a potted plant and cabinet, but the folded seat leaves full passage. Mrs. Heyworth's son approved the written quote the same day.

Ironwood raised entry — outdoor stairlift on stone-paved porch steps, weather-sealed

Ironwood, IL Installed December 2025

A 2004 Ironwood home with a raised front entry and rough natural stone paving leading up to the covered porch. Mr. Wiegand had stopped using the main entrance after a November ice event made the stone steps treacherous. We installed a weather-sealed cream-colored outdoor seat on the porch steps with IP55-rated motor housing, UV-stabilized components, and stainless hardware rated for McLean County's freeze-thaw cycles. The seat folds up at the top landing near the front door when not in use. Natural daylight from the open porch keeps the ride visible and safe. Mr. Wiegand used his front door again for the first time in six weeks.

Uptown Normal Victorian — slim-profile rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

Uptown Normal, IL Installed November 2025

A late-Victorian home near Uptown Normal converted from a rental to owner-occupied in 2015. The carpeted stairs have a landing area with tiled floor at the bottom and wall-mounted light switches along the run. Mrs. Dietrich had been quoted by two other companies who said the stair was too narrow. We measured the exact clearance, specified the compact slim-profile rail with a brown-upholstered seat that matches the carpet tones, and confirmed fire egress with the local building official. The seat folds flat at the landing, leaving 19.5 inches of clear passage. Mrs. Dietrich has lived here since 2015 and has no intention of leaving.

Platform Lift

North Meadows ranch — indoor wheelchair platform lift between garage level and living area

North Meadows, IL Installed October 2025

A 1990s ranch in the North Meadows subdivision where the garage-to-house transition has four steps and a doorway too narrow for a wheelchair ramp. Mr. Sandoval uses a power wheelchair after a stroke and could not transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. The orange-toned walls and window near the landing stayed untouched. The platform carries his wheelchair from the lower level to the hallway in about 12 seconds. The HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost through the VA Illiana system in Danville.

Common Questions

Everything Normal Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Normal, IL right now?

Straight rails in Normal's standard ranch and colonial homes — North Normal 1960s ranches, College Hills colonials, Ironwood new-builds — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level homes with a 90-degree mid-landing turn, common in College Hills and older North Normal subdivisions, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices in Normal different from Chicago or Bloomington?

Equipment prices are identical to the rest of Illinois — we don't vary pricing by metro size. What differs slightly in McLean County is that every install here ships with cold-weather-rated batteries and thread-locked fasteners as standard, because a January in Normal is hard on any mechanical system. Those upgrades are baseline, not upcharges. The written quote lists every line item.

Is financing available, and what does it cost per month?

Yes. We work with three lending partners offering 0% APR for qualified buyers and fixed-rate plans starting at $79/month. Application is a soft credit pull — no impact on your score — takes about 4 minutes, and approval is usually instant. Many Normal families combine financing with the Illinois Home Services Program partial reimbursement or the IRS medical deduction to bring the monthly cost down further. We run through the math during your free assessment.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving out of my Normal home?

In most cases, yes — often significantly. Moving from a Normal or McLean County home involves realtor commission, closing costs, movers, and a new deposit that together typically run $15,000 to $25,000. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home, neighborhood, and community you've been part of for decades — near your doctors, your church, and your family.

A word from Luis

I've measured more split-level stairways in College Hills and North Normal than I can count — the 1960s and 1970s housing stock here has a specific mid-landing geometry that most national companies quote wrong on the first try. We get it right the first time because we've done it hundreds of times in McLean County.

What people don't realize about Normal is how many retirees are in these neighborhoods north of Uptown. The ISU campus skews the census data young, but the homeowners calling us are 65-plus, in homes they've owned for 30 years, and they're staying. Cold-weather batteries and thread-locked fasteners ship on every McLean County install — not as upgrades, as baseline. A January here will test anything less.

We measure Thursday, install Friday, you ride the weekend. Written quote, 30-day hold, no surprises.
