Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The standard for Decatur’s two-story colonials, bungalows, and frame houses across Macon County. Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Decatur are straight rails. The track bolts into your stair treads — never the wall, never the banister — and the seat, armrests, and footrest fold flat when not in use. Every Decatur install ships with a cold-weather-rated battery because standard lithium packs fail below -5 degrees, and central Illinois delivers that temperature reliably every January.

Stairlift Service Across Macon County

Macon County, IL

From the brick colonials of the West End Historic District with original hardwood treads and 1920s construction to the midcentury ranches of Southmoreland overlooking Lake Decatur, our team knows every stair configuration in Decatur. We’ve measured the bungalows along South Country Club Road, the steep two-story colonials in Johns Hill, the narrow enclosed stairwells in Near North requiring slim-profile rails, and the split-level ranches east of town near Mount Zion where half-landing turns demand curved rails.

We also cover Forsyth, Mount Zion, Long Creek, Warrensburg, Harristown, and Oreana — no travel surcharge anywhere in Macon County.

West End colonial — straight rail on original hardwood oak treads

West End, IL Installed March 2026

A 1927 brick colonial in the West End Historic District with original hardwood oak treads and a walnut-stained banister that the homeowner’s late husband had refinished in 1991. Mrs. Kowalski made one thing clear: the banister stays untouched. We bolted a standard straight rail directly into the stair treads — fourteen steps, no turns. The oak was in good shape despite nearly a century of daily use, and the pilot holes seated cleanly without splitting. Cold-weather battery went in as standard. Mrs. Kowalski tested the lift four times before we left, then called her daughter in Springfield to say she’d gone upstairs for the first time in three months.

Johns Hill two-story — curved rail around a tight upper-landing turn

Johns Hill, IL Installed February 2026

A 1910 two-story frame house in Johns Hill with a steep staircase and an 85-degree turn at the upper landing — tighter than the standard 90. Mr. Brennan had stopped using the upstairs bedroom after a fall on the landing in November. The fabricated rail threads past the original newel post with three inches of clearance, rides the existing treads, and delivers him to a swivel-exit seat at the upper hallway. His wife said he went upstairs the day we installed and didn’t come back down until dinner.

Country Club bungalow — straight rail in a narrow enclosed stairwell

Country Club, IL Installed January 2026

A 1942 bungalow along South Country Club Road with a narrow enclosed stairwell — 30 inches wall to wall — and original plaster that the homeowner did not want cracked. Mr. Hadley is a retired Caterpillar machinist. The narrow width required our slim-profile rail, which mounts flush to the stair treads and folds the seat, armrests, and footrest flat against the wall. A wooden sideboard at the bottom of the stairs sits beside the parked seat. The concrete-block foundation kept the staircase dead level — no shimming needed. The compact, traditional cottage feel of the space stayed intact after the install.

Southmoreland raised entry — outdoor lift on stone-paved porch steps

Southmoreland, IL Installed December 2025

A 1958 raised-ranch in Southmoreland with seven concrete and stone-paved steps from the driveway to the front entry porch. Mrs. Dietrich has rheumatoid arthritis and the exterior entry stairs were too steep and too exposed for safe daily use. We mounted a weather-sealed outdoor rail with the cream-colored seat at the stone-paved base, anchors rated for 40+ freeze-thaw cycles, and an IP55-rated motor housing. A fitted cover protects the seat when parked at the covered porch. The unit ran through the entire 2025–2026 winter without a service call, including the polar vortex week when Decatur hit -9 degrees.

Near North carpeted stairs — straight rail with swivel-exit at the landing

Near North, IL Installed November 2025

A 1949 two-story in Near North with carpeted stairs — thick, deep-pile carpet over plywood treads. Mrs. Chen’s son drove over from Champaign every other weekend to help her with bedroom access on the second floor. Carpeted stairs require longer mounting bolts that penetrate through carpet and pad into the substrate. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones, and the folding footrest clears the stairs for her cat. A swivel-exit seat rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing. Her son now drives over once a month instead of every two weeks.

Platform Lift

Roach-Decatur home — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a Gulf War veteran

Roach-Decatur, IL Installed October 2025

A 1945 two-story near Roach-Decatur where Mr. Okafor, a Gulf War veteran, uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal cord injury. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed the flat black anti-slip platform with bright yellow high-visibility safety edges to ride his wheelchair between floors on the indoor stairway. The platform is rated for 750 lbs, the yellow edge strips provide a clear visual boundary for safe positioning, and interlocked gates at both landings prevent operation unless fully closed. The orange-toned walls of the stairwell frame the white handrail clearly. He qualified for the full $6,800 VA HISA grant through the Decatur VA Clinic on North Sunnyside Road — we prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and had the prescription back from VA Illiana in Danville within four weeks.

Common Questions

Everything Decatur Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Decatur, IL right now?

Straight rails in standard Decatur homes — the two-story colonials in the West End, the bungalows along Country Club Road, the frame houses in Johns Hill and Near North — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for West End homes with landing turns or split-level ranches east of town near Mount Zion run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts for raised-entry homes in Southmoreland and front-porch bungalows run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes rail, seat, cold-weather battery, installation, and your first service visit.

Why do Decatur quotes include a cold-weather battery at no extra charge?

Because standard lithium batteries fail below -5 degrees Fahrenheit, and Decatur delivers that temperature reliably every January — sometimes for weeks. Stairwells in older Decatur homes often share no heating vent, so overnight temperatures in an unheated stairwell can drop into the teens even when the house thermostat reads 68. We switched to cold-weather-rated batteries on every Macon County install after two competitor units failed during a polar vortex event. It’s standard on every unit we install here. No upcharge.

Is it cheaper to buy a used stairlift in central Illinois?

Used straight rails exist on the secondary market, and we sell certified refurbished units starting around $2,000 installed — inspected, re-lubricated, new cold-weather battery, full warranty. Used curved rails are almost never transferable because they’re fabricated for a specific staircase. If someone offers you a used curved rail for your Decatur home, the odds of it fitting your exact staircase geometry are close to zero. We’ll tell you honestly during the assessment whether a refurbished straight rail is a good fit for your stairs.

Do you offer a senior discount?

We don’t pad our prices to create an artificial discount. Our standard pricing is the same whether you’re 45 or 85. What we do is connect every Decatur household with the funding they qualify for — Illinois Community Care Program, VA HISA, Medicaid HSP, the IRS medical deduction, financing at 0% APR — so the out-of-pocket number drops as far as it can. In a city where more than one in five residents is over 65, that’s the honest approach.

A word from Luis

Most Decatur families call me after a specific moment — a slip on the worn oak treads in a West End colonial, a father who hasn’t been upstairs since his knee replacement at St. Mary’s, a daughter in Springfield or Chicago trying to keep her mother in the family home on South Country Club Road.

My job is direct: drive to your house, measure the stairs, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No sales theater. No second visit required. En español si lo prefiere.
