Stairlift Service Across South Central Connecticut County

South Central Connecticut County, CT

Wooster Square's 1830s–1870s rowhouses have narrow stairwells, steep risers, and original turned-wood banisters — every install bolts into treads only, never the banister or plaster. The neighborhood is a Local Historic District, so exterior porch lifts on contributing structures require HDC review; we handle the submission. East Rock's Victorians and Craftsmen bring wider stairs but deep landing turns requiring curved rails threaded past newel posts and under stained-glass windows. Westville and Beaver Hills shift to early-20th-century Colonials and Cape Cods — standard straight rails in under four hours. Fair Haven is where the bilingual work happens: steep narrow stairs in 1900s–1940s multi-family stock, consultations conducted entirely in Spanish. Beyond city limits, we staff dedicated specialists for West Haven, Hamden, Branford, and the shoreline communities.

1922 Westville Colonial — straight rail on original hardwood treads, three-hour install

Westville, CT Installed March 2026

A 1922 Colonial on Fountain Street in Westville with fourteen dark hardwood-treaded stairs and original oak risers in excellent condition. Mrs. Brennan had been avoiding the upstairs bedroom for three months after a knee replacement. We bolted the straight rail directly into the hardwood treads — never touching the banister or plaster — and positioned the beige seat to park at the bottom of the open-tread staircase. The warm wood tones and original stairwell character are fully preserved. Battery backup rated for New England winter outages.

1854 Wooster Square rowhouse — curved rail bends around the upper landing balustrade

Wooster Square, CT Installed February 2026

An 1854 rowhouse on Academy Street in Wooster Square with a 90° landing turn near the top that ruled out any straight solution. We digitally scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that bends around the half-wall balustrade at the upper floor, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top landing. Mr. Esposito steps off directly onto the upstairs hallway, past the chandelier and framed art on the landing wall. The original turned-wood banister is untouched — not one spindle moved.

Prospect Hill cottage — compact straight rail beside the hallway sideboard

Prospect Hill, CT Installed January 2026

A traditional cottage-style home on Prospect Street with stone-tiled stair treads and a compact entryway. A wooden sideboard with a potted plant sits right next to the staircase base — space is tight and every inch matters. We fitted the compact-profile straight rail on the stone treads, positioned the brown-upholstered seat to park at the bottom without blocking the sideboard or the hallway. The cozy, traditional character of the home's entry is preserved. Mr. O'Brien's main concern was keeping the hallway passable, and it is.

Fair Haven raised porch — outdoor cream seat on stone-paved entry steps

Fair Haven, CT Installed December 2025

A 1924 multi-family on Grand Avenue in Fair Haven with a raised front porch — rough natural stone paving at the base, six exterior steps up to the covered entry. The steps become an ice hazard from December through March. We installed a weather-resistant cream-colored seat on an outdoor rail with stainless-steel fasteners rated for Long Island Sound salt air and Connecticut's freeze-thaw cycle. The sealed motor housing and battery backup handle winter conditions. The stone-paved entry is unchanged, and Sr. Medina accesses his second-floor unit without touching those icy steps. Luis conducted the entire consultation in Spanish.

Beaver Hills Cape Cod — straight rail on carpeted stairs, seat blends with carpet tones

Beaver Hills, CT Installed January 2026

A 1938 Cape Cod in Beaver Hills with steep carpeted treads to the second-floor bedrooms and a small landing halfway up. The brown carpet covers every tread and riser. We bolted the straight rail through the carpet into the wood treads beneath and mounted the brown-upholstered seat — the upholstery matches the carpet tones so closely it looks intentional. The seat parks at the landing near the wall-mounted light switches, and the tiled floor at the bottom of the stairwell stays fully clear. Mrs. Thompson's visiting grandchildren still use the stairs without any issue.

Platform Lift

East Rock Victorian — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

East Rock, CT Installed November 2025

Professor Whitfield's mother uses a power wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. Their 1892 East Rock Victorian has an indoor stairway with warm orange-terracotta walls and a window on the landing. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip deck, bright yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail. The platform rides the indoor stairway rail — no seat, no transfer required. Mrs. Whitfield rolls on at the bottom, rides up past the window, and rolls off at the top floor. The Victorian millwork is untouched.

Common Questions

Everything New Haven Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in New Haven right now?

Straight rails in standard New Haven homes — the Westville Colonials, the Beaver Hills Cape Cods, the postwar multi-families in Dixwell — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Wooster Square rowhouses with landing turns and East Rock Victorians with deep mid-landings, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor weather-sealed models for raised porches and exterior steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in New Haven than Fairfield County?

Equipment prices are the same across Connecticut — we don't inflate quotes for East Rock addresses or discount for Fair Haven. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving 1850s turned-wood banisters in Wooster Square, threading curved rails through East Rock Victorian landings, and multi-family stairwell installs where the building has shared stairs and the owner needs landlord paperwork. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise surcharges.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every New Haven assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked hundreds of Connecticut families through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. For the families in Fair Haven, where over 40% of residents are Spanish-speaking, it's the only way to do business honestly.

Is there anything extra for multi-family buildings?

If you own the building and the stairlift is going on a shared staircase, we include the landlord documentation and any Fair Housing Act reasonable-accommodation paperwork at no extra cost. What can add a small cost is when the shared stairwell requires a dedicated electrical circuit — common in 1920s–1940s three-deckers in Fair Haven and Dixwell where the original panel can't handle the draw. If a new circuit is needed, we pull the municipal electrical permit and schedule the inspection on your behalf. We tell you before we start.

A word from Luis

Most New Haven families call me after something has already changed — a parent who slipped on the narrow stairs in a Wooster Square three-decker, a retired Yale professor who hasn't been to the second floor of his East Rock Victorian since his hip replacement, a daughter in New York worried about her mother alone in a Westville Colonial through another Connecticut winter.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
