Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The workhorse of the Milwaukee Polish flat — tight straight runs in Bay View, Riverwest, Lincoln Village, and Sherman Park. About 70% of the stairlifts we install in Milwaukee are this model. The classic 1890s-to-1920s Milwaukee duplex has a straight-run interior stair right off the enclosed front porch or side-entry vestibule, usually 12 to 14 treads, and the slim-profile rail bolts into those treads without touching the plaster wall, the original turned-pine banister, or the carved newel post. The seat and footrest fold up out of the way so a grandchild can still run up the same stairs, cold-pack battery backup keeps the chair moving through the next polar vortex outage, and most Milwaukee installs wrap in under four hours. Color options match original pine, oak, or painted banisters common in pre-war duplex construction.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Milwaukee County

Milwaukee County, WI

From Bay View Polish flats on Kinnickinnic Avenue to Lower East Side brick mansions on North Prospect, our crew has mapped the Milwaukee staircase. The classic 1890s-to-1920s Milwaukee duplex — a two-family wood-frame with a 32-to-34-inch interior stair — takes a slim-profile straight rail every time. We install hundreds across Riverwest, Bay View, Lincoln Village, and Layton Boulevard West.

In Sherman Park, Washington Heights, and Jackson Park the work shifts to 1920s Cream City brick bungalows with half-story attic bedrooms. In the Historic Third Ward, converted warehouse lofts need condo board and Historic Preservation Commission filings — we handle both at no charge. Walker's Point pre-Civil-War frame houses often need curved rails around tight quarter-landings. We staff installers across Wauwatosa, West Allis, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, and Glendale — no travel surcharge.

Bay View 1912 Polish flat — 13-step interior run on dark hardwood treads

Bay View, WI Installed March 2026

A 1912 two-family wood-frame on South Logan Avenue in Bay View — classic Milwaukee Polish flat. The interior stair to the upper unit is a 13-step straight run with dark hardwood treads and the original turned-pine banister. Mrs. Kowalski had not been down to her own kitchen in six weeks after a hip replacement at Froedtert. We bolted the rail into the oak tread nosings on the banister side so her grandson could still pass on the opposite wall, and the beige seat parks at the bottom landing flush against the newel post. The job was complete before the afternoon school bus came down KK.

1908 Lower East Side brick mansion — curved rail past the carved walnut newel post

Lower East Side, WI Installed February 2026

A Tudor Revival brick-and-stone mansion on North Prospect Avenue facing Lake Michigan, two blocks from the bluff. The interior stair has a quarter-landing turn halfway up with a carved walnut newel post the Hoffmanns refused to touch — it had been in the family since 1944. We laser-scanned on the first consultation, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel post with 1.25-inch clearance, and the chair parks at the upper hallway where it swivels 90 degrees so Dr. Hoffmann steps off onto the hall runner. Rail color matched to the existing oak within a single shade. Framed family portraits line the wall along the curved section.

Lincoln Village 1924 cottage — compact straight rail beside the hallway sideboard

Lincoln Village, WI Installed January 2026

A 1924 Milwaukee cottage on South 13th Street in Lincoln Village with stone-tile treads on the interior stair and a wooden sideboard with a potted plant right at the base. The space is tight and traditional — furniture on both sides of the landing, warm wood tones throughout. We mounted the straight rail against the wall side to preserve clearance past the sideboard, and the compact brown-upholstered seat folds flush when not in use. Mrs. Garza's daughter said the rail blends so naturally with the stone treads and cottage furniture that her mother's friends walked past it twice without commenting. Consultation entirely in Spanish with Luis.

Sherman Park 1927 bungalow — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved front stoop

Sherman Park, WI Installed December 2025

A 1927 Cream City brick bungalow on North 47th Street in Sherman Park. Five concrete front stoop steps with rough stone paving up from the sidewalk to the front door. Mr. Jefferson, a 78-year-old retired Milwaukee Public Schools custodian, had slipped on ice the previous winter. We anchored a weather-resistant cream-seat outdoor rail into the stone treads with masonry bolts and epoxy — never into the Cream City brick facade — sealed the motor housing with a freeze-thaw gasket, and spec'd the cold-pack lithium iron phosphate battery rated to -25°F. A weatherproof cover protects the seat between rides. Rode through two polar vortex nights without a fault.

Riverwest 1910 duplex — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel-exit at the landing

Riverwest, WI Installed November 2025

A 1910 two-family wood-frame on East Clarke Street in Riverwest with 12 carpeted treads running from the enclosed front porch to the upper unit. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones perfectly. Wall-mounted light switches sit just above the rail line. The Lesniaks were buying for their 81-year-old father who had twice stepped off at the top tread and caught himself on the banister. The swivel-exit seat rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing so he now steps off onto the tiled hallway floor instead of the edge of the top step. Father has ridden it twice a day since install without a stumble.

Platform Lift

Historic Third Ward loft — indoor wheelchair platform lift for post-spinal-fusion recovery

Historic Third Ward, WI Installed October 2025

A 1903 former Cream City brick warehouse on North Broadway converted to residential lofts in 2001. Mr. Schneider needed a wheelchair-accessible solution after a spinal fusion — he cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway between the lower living floor and the upper primary bedroom. The flat black anti-slip platform has high-visibility yellow safety edges and white handrails on both sides. The orange-toned brick walls and window light give the space warmth. The condo board required HOA approval and a Historic Preservation Commission Certificate of Appropriateness — we filed both and returned in 16 days with written approvals.

Common Questions

Everything Milwaukee Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Milwaukee right now?

Straight rails inside a standard Milwaukee duplex or Polish flat — Bay View, Riverwest, Lincoln Village, Layton Boulevard West — run $2,900 to $5,600 installed, and a straight rail is what about 70% of our Milwaukee work needs because the classic 1910 two-family wood-frame has a tight straight-run interior stair right off the side door. Curved rails for Lower East Side brick mansions, Walker's Point 1850s frame houses with quarter-landings, and North Point Tudor Revivals run $9,200 to $15,500 because the rail is fabricated to your exact landing geometry. Outdoor cold-rated lifts for Sherman Park bungalow stoops run $4,100 to $7,600. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-pack battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are Milwaukee city prices different from Wauwatosa or West Allis?

Equipment prices are identical across Milwaukee County — we do not inflate quotes for a Lower East Side or Whitefish Bay address. What occasionally adds a line item inside city limits is a City of Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services electrical permit when we pull a new dedicated circuit for a pre-1940 duplex still running 60-amp service, filed under our Wisconsin-licensed electrical contractor. The permit fee is pass-through at cost, usually $90 to $160, and it appears on the quote before you sign. No surprise city premiums.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service on the South Side?

No. Every Milwaukee assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has run consultations across Lincoln Village, Walker's Point, Mitchell Park, and Layton Boulevard West for more than a decade. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. For Hmong-speaking families on the North Side we coordinate a translator through the Milwaukee County Department on Aging at no cost to you. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees if my house sits inside a Historic Preservation Commission district?

Our quote includes the Certificate of Appropriateness we prepare for you if your address falls inside one of the 15-plus designated Milwaukee local historic districts — Lower East Side, Concordia, Walker's Point, North Point North, and others all require Historic Preservation Commission review for any exterior-visible alteration, including an outdoor stoop lift. Interior lifts on the inside duplex stair never require HPC review. We file the application, the elevation photographs, and any response to Commission comments at no extra cost. If HPC requires a specific rail finish we build that into the original quote.

A word from Luis

Most Milwaukee calls I take start with a Polish flat — a mother on the upper unit of a 1912 Bay View duplex who stopped going down to her kitchen six weeks ago, a son in Riverwest worried about his father climbing the half-basement entry, a daughter in Lincoln Village asking whether the rail will fit between the plaster wall and the original turned-pine banister. The answer is almost always yes.

My job is simple: be on your block within 24 hours, measure the interior run and the outdoor stoop, and leave you with a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
