Stairlift Service Across Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County, NH

The West Side — Rimmon Heights, Notre Dame, Piscataquog, Granite Square — has Manchester's steepest stairwells. Triple-deckers built for Amoskeag mill workers between 1890 and 1920, with stairwells barely 30 inches wide. We carry the slim-profile rail for these installs. The North End along Webster Street has 1920s–1950s colonials with standard 14-to-16-foot straight runs. Hallsville and Bakersville on the East Side mix triple-deckers with 1930s–1940s single-family homes. South of Queen City Avenue, Goffs Falls ranch splits from the 1970s and 1980s almost always need a curved rail for the landing turn. We also serve Millyard-adjacent condos — converted Amoskeag mill buildings where HOA approval follows the Fair Housing accommodation process we handle at no charge.

Straight

1942 North End colonial — straight rail on original oak treads

North End, NH Installed March 2026

A 1942 colonial on a tree-lined block off Webster Street in the North End — original red oak treads, a straight 15-foot run to the upstairs bedrooms, and a homeowner who had been scooting down the stairs rather than ask for help. Mrs. Pelletier's son called from Nashua after she admitted she hadn't been upstairs in two weeks. The treads were solid oak, the banister original maple. We bolted the rail into the treads without touching a single spindle, installed cold-rated batteries for the New Hampshire winter, and walked her through the controls. She rode upstairs that afternoon.

Goffs Falls split-level — curved rail with 90° turn at the upper landing

Goffs Falls, NH Installed February 2026

A 1976 split-level ranch in Goffs Falls with the standard southern New Hampshire floor plan — six steps up from the foyer to the main level, then a 90-degree turn and another eight steps to the bedrooms. Mr. Caron had been using a cane after a fall on ice last January and the landing turn was the problem. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a curved rail that carries him from the foyer to the upper hallway in one continuous ride, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. He uses it four times a day and has not touched the cane indoors since February.

Hallsville cottage — straight rail on stone-tread stairs in a compact traditional home

Hallsville, NH Installed January 2026

A compact 1935 Cape in Hallsville with stone-tile treads and a narrow staircase next to the front hallway sideboard. Mr. Bouchard's daughter had been rearranging furniture around the stair base for months, trying to give her father more room to grip the railing. The treads were original stone tile — solid but uneven enough to require shimmed mounting brackets at two points. We bolted the rail through the stone into the subfloor, folded the seat flat against the wall so it clears the sideboard, and tested every inch of the 14-foot run. Compact space, traditional home, straightforward install.

Hallsville raised entry — outdoor lift on stone paving for a Korean War veteran

Hallsville, NH Installed December 2025

A 1935 Cape in Hallsville with a raised front entry — six exterior stone steps to the front door and a 79-year-old Korean War veteran who hadn't been able to get to his own mailbox unassisted since October. Mr. Dufresne's daughter contacted the Manchester VA Medical Center at 718 Smyth Road. The outdoor rail is marine-grade coated against New Hampshire's freeze-thaw cycles and road-salt spray, anchored through the stone pavers into the poured foundation with frost-heave-resistant brackets. Cold-rated lithium batteries handle the January lows. He rode it through the entire winter without a callback.

South End colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs after hip surgery

South End, NH Installed November 2025

A 1988 colonial in the South End with standard carpeted stairs and a homeowner two weeks out from hip replacement surgery at Elliot Hospital on River Road. Mrs. Lavoie's daughter arranged everything before the surgery — called Monday, we measured Tuesday, installed Thursday. The carpet was low-pile commercial grade over plywood subfloor, which takes standard bracket mounts with no modifications. We added a swivel-exit seat at the top so she could step off without twisting the new hip. Her physical therapist from Elliot approved the setup without changes.

Platform Lift

West Side triple-decker — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

West Side, NH Installed October 2025

A 1912 triple-decker on the West Side where Mr. Gauthier had lived on the first floor for 40 years. After a stroke left him in a power wheelchair, the four steps from the street-level entry to his first-floor apartment became impassable. The stairwell was too narrow for a seated lift with wheelchair transfer, so we installed an indoor inclined platform lift — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides, upper and lower gate interlocks, and an emergency stop button at wheelchair height. The platform rides on a steel mast bolted through the wall into the original timber framing. His occupational therapist from Catholic Medical Center cleared him for independent use.

Common Questions

Everything Manchester Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Manchester right now?

Straight rails for the standard colonials and Capes in the North End, South End, and Hallsville run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Slim-profile rails for narrow West Side triple-decker stairwells run slightly higher — $3,200 to $5,800 — because the hardware is specialized. Curved rails for Goffs Falls split-levels and multi-landing walk-ups run $9,000 to $15,000 due to custom fabrication. Outdoor models for raised front entries run $4,000 to $7,500 with marine-grade coating. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, cold-rated battery, and the first service visit.

Are triple-decker installs more expensive than single-family homes?

The equipment cost is the same. What can add modest labor time is the narrow stairwell width — we may need the slim-profile rail, which runs a few hundred dollars more than the standard model. If the building's electrical panel is original and lacks a grounded outlet near the stair base, a new dedicated circuit adds $200–$400 with permit. We itemize everything on the written quote. No surprise line items after install day.

Do you charge extra for homes in Bedford or the Manchester suburbs?

No travel fees anywhere in the greater Manchester area — Bedford, Hooksett, Goffstown, Auburn, Pinardville. The suburbs actually install faster than the city because the staircases are wider and more standard. Bedford colonials with modern construction are some of our quickest installs in southern New Hampshire.

Can I rent a stairlift instead of buying one in Manchester?

We offer rental programs starting at $150 per month for straight-rail models — useful for post-surgery recovery or temporary mobility needs after a procedure at Elliot Hospital or Catholic Medical Center. The rental includes installation, removal, and full maintenance. If you decide to purchase later, we credit up to three months of rental payments toward the buy price. For permanent needs, purchasing is almost always more cost-effective within 18 months.

A word from Luis

Manchester calls usually start with a triple-decker. Someone's parent lives on the second floor of a three-story walk-up built in 1910 for Amoskeag mill workers, the stairs are steep and narrow, and winter makes them worse. I drive up from our New England office, measure the run, and write a number on paper that stays good for 30 days.

The staircases in Manchester's mill-era housing are some of the steepest I measure in New England. Narrow treads, tight turns at the landing, original wood that's been painted over six times. Every one of these installs needs a site visit — no phone quote will be accurate. I also bring cold-rated batteries on every southern New Hampshire call because a January power outage at 10 below is not the time to find out your battery wasn't spec'd for the climate. En español si lo prefiere.
