Stairlift Service Across Leavenworth County

Leavenworth County, KS

Leavenworth's housing stock spans ornate 1880s Queen Annes in the North Esplanade Historic District — many with steep, narrow original staircases — to 1990s split-levels in Hunter's Ridge off 20th Street and Tonganoxie Road. The Arch Street Historic District has some of the city's finest Victorian homes, where curved staircases need custom rail fabrication. Highland Pointe and Crown Estates offer newer construction near Fort Leavenworth's main gate. On-post, families in Cheyenne Village and Kansa Village often need outdoor-rated lifts for porch entries. Union Park and South Esplanade round out the historic core with compact cottages where straight-rail installs work well on narrow treads.

Straight

Oak Staircase, North Esplanade Historic District

North Esplanade Historic District, KS Installed March 2026

Luis installed a beige straight rail on an 1890s Victorian on North Esplanade with original dark oak treads. The rail bolts into the treads — no drilling into plaster walls or wainscoting. The cream-upholstered seat parks at the bottom landing, facing the front parlor. Three hours from arrival to cleanup, and the homeowner was riding the lift that same afternoon.

Curved Staircase, Arch Street Historic District

Arch Street Historic District, KS Installed February 2026

A restored 1887 Victorian on Arch Street with a curved staircase bending 90 degrees at the upper landing, wrapping around a half-wall beneath a chandelier. Luis took a 1-hour laser measurement; the custom rail was fabricated in Kansas City and bent to fit the exact curve. The brown seat parks at the top floor outside the master bedroom. Install took five hours.

Compact Cottage, Union Park Historic District

Union Park Historic District, KS Installed April 2026

A compact 1920s cottage in Union Park with narrow stone-tread stairs — only 32 inches wide — and a wooden sideboard at the base. Luis installed a slim-profile straight rail with the brown seat tucked beside the sideboard. The stone treads took the masonry bolts cleanly. Install wrapped in under four hours with no wall damage.

Outdoor Porch, Fort Leavenworth — Cheyenne Village

Fort Leavenworth, KS Installed October 2025

The Reyes family in Cheyenne Village on Fort Leavenworth needed access from the driveway across six rough-stone-paved steps to the front porch. Luis installed a cream outdoor unit, IP55 weather-sealed, with the rail bolted into the stone treads. The powder-coated aluminum rail holds up against freeze-thaw cycles and Missouri River humidity. Done before lunch; the lift ran through a full Kansas winter without fault.

A 1993 split-level in Hunter's Ridge off Tonganoxie Road with carpeted treads in a neutral beige. Luis installed a brown straight rail, bolting through the carpet into the plywood treads beneath. The seat travels up to the carpeted upper landing where the bedrooms are — the tiled entry floor at the base anchors the lower rail end. Standard residential install, three hours.

Common Questions

Everything Leavenworth Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Leavenworth?

Straight stairlifts start at $2,800. Curved lifts — common in Leavenworth's historic districts where staircases turn — start at $9,000 and are custom-fabricated to your exact stair geometry after a 1-hour laser measurement. Outdoor units start at $4,000. Heavy-duty models that carry up to 600 lb start at $5,050. All prices include installation, and financing runs $79/month.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in Leavenworth's older homes?

Leavenworth was founded in 1854, and many homes in the North Esplanade, Arch Street, and Third Avenue historic districts have curved or angled staircases. A curved stairlift requires a custom rail bent to your specific stair turn — there is no off-the-shelf curved rail. The rail is fabricated after a laser measurement of your staircase. The install itself still takes one morning, but the manufacturing adds 2-3 weeks.

Does Medicare cover stairlift costs in Leavenworth?

No. Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — they are classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Medicare Advantage plans occasionally offer small home-safety allowances, but this is rare in the Kansas City metro area. The main funding paths in Leavenworth are the VA HISA grant, Kansas Medicaid (KanCare) HCBS waivers, and the state Disabled Access Credit.

What financing is available for Leavenworth residents?

We offer financing at $79/month for qualified buyers. There is no prepayment penalty, and the application takes about 10 minutes. Most Leavenworth families receive an answer the same day. The financing covers the full cost of the unit and installation — no separate down payment.

A word from Luis

Leavenworth is the only city I've worked where you can install a straight rail in an 1885 Queen Anne in the morning and an outdoor lift at Fort Leavenworth base housing after lunch. The historic districts — North Esplanade, Arch Street, Union Park — those homes have staircases built before building codes existed. Some treads are barely 8 inches deep. But the rail bolts to the treads, not the wall, so the plaster and original millwork stay untouched. That matters here more than anywhere else I've worked.

The other thing about Leavenworth is the veteran community. About one in five residents is a veteran. We do a lot of HISA grant work through the Eisenhower VA on 4th Street. The paperwork runs through the prosthetics department — I can walk a family through exactly which forms to request.

Winter is the busiest season. When January temps drop into the 20s and the stairs get slick, families call. Outdoor units here get the IP55 weather sealing, and the battery backup runs about 6 hours — enough to get through a Kansas ice storm when the power flickers.

— Luis Ramírez, Leavenworth
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Leavenworth is a city built on stairs — from the bluff-top Victorians overlooking the Missouri River to the on-post housing at Fort Leavenworth. Every installation here has to account for something local: freeze-thaw cycles that test outdoor seals, narrow treads in 19th-century homes, or the simple fact that nearly one in five residents has VA benefits and needs help working through the HISA paperwork.

Luis and the Leavenworth team handle the assessment, the install, and the funding paperwork. Call or fill out the form above to schedule a free in-home measurement. Most assessments take about an hour, and you'll have a firm quote before we leave.
