Stairlift Service Across Wyandotte County

Wyandotte County, KS

From the Slavic-heritage blocks of Strawberry Hill — where 1920s two-stories with narrow stairs and original plaster line the bluff above the Kansas River — to the Hispanic corridors of Argentine and Armourdale along Southwest Boulevard, where raised front porches and concrete steps are the most common outdoor install we do, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in KCK. We know which Kensington Tudors have the dogleg landings that require a curved rail, which Westheight Manor bungalows fall inside the National Register historic district (interior installs: no review needed; exterior porch lifts: we handle the UG application), and which Rosedale cottages near the KU Medical Center campus have the limestone-clad entries where color-matching the rail finish matters to every homeowner who calls.

1924 Strawberry Hill two-story — straight rail on original oak treads

Strawberry Hill, KS Installed March 2026

A 1924 two-story frame house on the Strawberry Hill bluff with original oak treads worn smooth by a century of foot traffic. Mrs. Kowalski’s daughter called us after her mother caught a heel on the top step coming down from the bedrooms at night. The staircase is narrow — 32 inches between walls — and the plaster on both sides is original. We fitted a slim-profile straight rail bolted directly into the oak treads, keeping every mount away from the plaster walls. The folding seat tucks flat against the wall so her grandson can still carry laundry past.

Kensington Tudor — curved rail past the upper landing turn

Kensington, KS Installed February 2026

A 1930s Tudor in Kensington with a staircase that doglegs at the upper landing — seven steps up from the foyer, a 90-degree turn on a small platform, then five more steps to the upstairs hall. Two other companies quoted separate lifts for each run. We laser-scanned the full geometry on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that threads the turn without touching the original Tudor arch trim at the landing, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. One continuous ride from the foyer to the bedroom hallway.

1940s Rosedale stone cottage — rail matched to limestone entry

Rosedale, KS Installed January 2026

A 1940s stone cottage in Rosedale near the KU Medical Center campus with a straight interior staircase and original limestone-clad walls in the entry hall. The Garza family wanted the rail to blend with the stone — not look like medical equipment bolted to their grandmother’s house. We color-matched the rail finish to the warm gray of the limestone, mounted everything into the stair treads, and routed the charging cable behind the baseboard so nothing shows. Abuela Garza did the entire walkthrough in Spanish with Luis, and we left a Spanish-language manual on the kitchen table.

Argentine front porch — weather-sealed outdoor rail on stone paving

Argentine, KS Installed December 2025

A raised front porch on a 1950s Argentine ranch with eight concrete-and-stone steps leading up from the sidewalk. Mr. Hernández is a veteran enrolled at the Captain Elwin Shopteese VA Clinic at 9201 Parallel Parkway. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103 and walked the HISA application through the Kansas City VA Medical Center — the prescription came back in four weeks and covered the full install. The outdoor rail is sealed against Kansas humidity, UV-coated for the summer sun, and carries a cold-weather battery rated for the sub-zero January nights that hit the Argentine flats hard. The stone paving required masonry anchors instead of standard wood-tread bolts — we brought the right drill bits on the first trip.

Westheight Manor bungalow — straight rail over wall-to-wall carpet

Westheight Manor, KS Installed November 2025

A 1920s bungalow inside the Westheight Manor Historic District — one of the oldest recognized historic neighborhoods in Wyandotte County. Mrs. Patterson had wall-to-wall carpet over the original treads and did not want it pulled up. We bolted the rail brackets through the carpet into the wood treads underneath, seated every mount flush so the carpet fibers sit flat around the base plates, and trimmed the charging station into the baseboard at the bottom landing. The historic district status means exterior modifications need review, but interior stairlift installs are not in scope — we confirmed that with the Unified Government planning office before the first visit so Mrs. Patterson had it in writing.

Platform Lift

Armourdale split-level — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Armourdale, KS Installed October 2025

A 1960s split-level in Armourdale with a five-step rise from the garage-level entry to the main living floor. Mr. Salazar uses a power wheelchair full-time after a spinal injury and transferring to a stairlift seat was not a safe option. We installed an indoor vertical platform lift with bright yellow safety edges on the platform perimeter, interlocked upper and lower gates, and a battery backup that runs independently of the house electrical. The platform is wide enough for his chair with room for a grocery bag on the armrest. Mrs. Salazar said the yellow edges were the detail that sold her — she can see from across the room whether the gate is open or closed.

Common Questions

Everything Kansas City Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Kansas City, KS right now?

Straight rails in standard KCK homes — the two-stories on Strawberry Hill, the ranches in Argentine, the bungalows in Westheight Manor — run $2,800 to $5,200 installed. Curved rails for Kensington Tudors and split-level ranches with landing turns run $8,500 to $14,500 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised front porches run $4,000 to $7,000. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, 72-hour battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are KCK prices lower than the Missouri side?

Equipment costs are identical — we don’t price by ZIP code. What differs is Kansas sales tax structure: Wyandotte County’s combined rate is higher than some Johnson County cities, but stairlifts prescribed as mobility-enhancing equipment by a Kansas physician are exempt from state sales tax under K.S.A. 79-3606(r). We help you get the physician letter. Install labor costs are comparable across the metro because our crew covers both sides of State Line Road from the same shop.

Why do curved rails cost so much more than straight?

A straight rail is factory stock — we cut it to length on-site. A curved rail is custom-manufactured from a laser scan of your specific staircase. The Kensington Tudors with their dogleg landings, the Shawnee Heights split-levels with 90-degree turns — each one gets a unique rail that takes 10-14 days to fabricate. That tooling and precision is where the cost lives. We show you the scan data during the first visit so you see exactly what you’re paying for.

Do you offer any discount for veterans in Wyandotte County?

We don’t discount — we help you get the install covered. The VA HISA grant pays up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities and $2,000 for non-service-connected. With 18.4% of KCK residents being veterans, HISA is our highest-volume funding path in Wyandotte County. We prefill VA Form 10-0103 and walk it through the Kansas City VA Medical Center on Linwood or the Captain Elwin Shopteese VA Clinic at 9201 Parallel Parkway in KCK (800-574-8387). Most approvals come back in 4-6 weeks.

A word from Luis

Most families on the Kansas side call after someone slipped on the stairs in a 1920s Strawberry Hill two-story or a steep basement staircase in an Argentine ranch. The houses here were built solid — plaster walls, hardwood treads, narrow turns — but they were built for younger legs.

I drive out same day when I can. I measure, I quote on paper, and the price holds for 30 days. If your home is in Rosedale, Armourdale, or out near Bonner Springs, same deal — no travel surcharge anywhere in Wyandotte or Johnson County. En español si lo prefiere.
