Stairlift Service Across Essex County

Essex County, MA

From the dense Victorian triple-deckers of Mount Washington — steep, narrow stairs built for shoe-factory workers, not the 85-year-olds still living there — to the colonials and Cape Cods of Bradford across the Merrimack with wider, carpeted runs, our crew knows every housing type in Haverhill. The Highlands has Colonial and Federal-style properties where the banister conversation starts before the stairlift conversation. Downtown mill conversions have modern interior stairs inside old brick shells. Broad Hill runs from Victorian cottages to Cape Cods. Riverside has single- and two-families built from the 1890s forward, many with raised granite entries that need outdoor lifts. We also cover Groveland, Merrimac, West Newbury, Methuen, Georgetown, and Newburyport — zero travel surcharges.

1898 Mount Washington Victorian — slim-profile rail on narrow triple-decker stairs

Mount Washington, MA Installed March 2026

A 1898 Victorian triple-decker on Mount Washington with original pine treads, 29 inches wide, worn smooth by 128 years of foot traffic. Two other companies said the stairway was too narrow. We specified the slim-profile rail — 11 inches from wall to outer edge — leaving 18 inches of clear walking width. Every bolt went into the hardwood treads, not the plaster walls. The original banister spindles are exactly where they were when the house was built for shoe-factory workers at the turn of the century.

1920 Highlands colonial — curved rail threaded past the original Federal-style banister

Highlands, MA Installed February 2026

A 1920 Colonial Revival in the Highlands with a formal front staircase, a 90-degree turn at the upper landing, and a Federal-style banister the family had refinished twice. We laser-scanned the full geometry, fabricated a curved rail that carries her from the entry hall to the upstairs bedroom hallway in one continuous ride, and added a swivel-exit seat at the top so she steps off onto level hallway floor. The original banister was never touched. She slept in her own bedroom the night we finished — first time in five months.

1948 Bradford Cape Cod — straight rail beside the sideboard in a compact cottage stairwell

Bradford, MA Installed January 2026

A 1948 Cape Cod across the river in Bradford with stone-trimmed treads and a compact stairwell next to a wooden sideboard in the hallway. Mr. Hannigan’s doctor at Lawrence General told him to stop climbing stairs after a knee replacement. The rail bolts into the stone-capped treads only — no wall contact, no damage to the sideboard or the potted fern his wife has kept on it since 1991. The cottage feel of the house stayed exactly the same. Installed in a single morning.

Riverside raised granite entry — outdoor lift sealed for Merrimack Valley freeze-thaw

Riverside, MA Installed December 2025

A 1930s wood-frame house in Riverside with a raised front entry — seven rough-cut granite steps from the sidewalk to the covered front porch, natural stone paving at the base. Abuela Morales uses a walker and could not clear the entry without two family members lifting her. We anchored an outdoor straight rail directly into the granite risers with stainless-steel brackets rated for Merrimack Valley freeze-thaw cycling and installed cold-rated batteries that hold charge down to -10°F. The cream-colored weather-sealed seat sits at the stone-paved entry, ready for every season. The entire consultation happened in Spanish.

Bradford colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs, zero carpet damage

Bradford, MA Installed November 2025

A 1950s colonial in Bradford with fully carpeted stairs and a landing halfway up. Mrs. Pellegrini’s daughter worried about damage to the wall-to-wall carpet on a home she planned to keep in the family. The rail brackets bolt through the carpet into the tread lumber underneath — the carpet surface stays untouched. The brown seat upholstery blends with the warm carpet tones so well that visitors barely notice the rail. If the unit is ever removed, the pilot holes sit below the carpet pile. Finished in three hours, quiet enough that Mrs. Pellegrini’s cat slept through the entire install.

Platform Lift

Broad Hill two-family — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Broad Hill, MA Installed October 2025

A 1955 two-family on Broad Hill where Mr. DiMauro returned from back surgery at Lawrence General Hospital using a power wheelchair full-time during recovery. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors without transferring. We installed an indoor inclined platform lift at the stairwell opening with a flat black anti-slip platform, high-visibility yellow safety edges around the entire perimeter, and interlocked gates at both levels. The orange-toned hallway walls frame the white handrail cleanly. His wife said the yellow edges were what convinced her the system was built for actual safety, not just appearance.

Common Questions

Everything Haverhill Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Haverhill right now?

Straight rails in standard Haverhill homes — the Mount Washington Victorians, the Bradford colonials, the Highlands Capes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you will need for any staircase with a landing turn (common in Mount Washington Victorians and the older Highlands homes), run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised granite entries and front stoops run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-rated battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Bradford than on Mount Washington?

Equipment prices are identical across the city — we do not inflate quotes based on neighborhood. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow triple-decker stairways on Mount Washington that require our slim-profile rail, original Victorian banisters in the Highlands that the family refuses to let us touch (fine — we never do), and winter-access delays when a January storm closes a block for two days. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise premiums.

I rent my apartment. Who pays for the stairlift?

In most cases the tenant pays. However, Massachusetts law (Chapter 151B) and the federal Fair Housing Act require landlords to allow reasonable modifications for tenants with disabilities. The landlord cannot refuse. If you qualify for the MassHealth Frail Elder Waiver or a VA HISA grant, those programs pay directly and the landlord still cannot block the work. We prepare the accommodation letter, hand-deliver it to the landlord or property management company, and handle every step of the approval at no charge.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Haverhill assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has worked consultations across the Merrimack Valley for over a decade. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. For other languages we bring in a phone interpreter at our cost, never yours.

A word from Luis

Most Haverhill calls start the same way — a daughter phones about her mother’s Victorian on Mount Washington, or a son calls because his father hasn’t been to the second floor of the Bradford colonial since a fall in January. The housing stock here is old. The stairs are steep, narrow, and built for shoe-factory workers in the 1890s, not for the retirees who are still in those same houses 130 years later.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
