Straight

Straight Rail on Dark Hardwood Stairs in Windward Slopes

Windward Slopes, TN Installed March 2026

The Morrisons' 2004 two-story in Windward Slopes has 14 dark oak treads straight up from the foyer. Mrs. Morrison had been sleeping downstairs for five months after a hip replacement. We bolted a beige straight rail to the treads in three hours — carbide bit for the dense oak, zero splintering. The seat parks at the bottom landing, battery backup plugs into the base outlet, and the hallway stays fully open.

Curved

Curved Rail at Upper Landing in The Preserve

The Preserve, TN Installed February 2026

The Callahans' home in The Preserve has a curved staircase — 16 treads with a 90-degree turn at a half-wall landing under a chandelier. We laser-measured every tread including three wedge-shaped winders, sent the file for fabrication, and returned two weeks later. The brown seat parks at the upper landing; the rail hugs the wall so the chandelier stays untouched. Custom bend, but the upstairs master bedroom is now fully accessible.

Compact Stone-Tread Install in Stonebridge

Stonebridge, TN Installed January 2026

The Nguyens' split-level in Stonebridge has stone-look tile treads — only 30 inches wide — with a small landing next to a wooden sideboard. A standard rail would have blocked the hallway, so we used a slim-rail model. Diamond bit, slow speed, no cracked tiles. The brown seat folds to 13 inches from the wall. The sideboard stayed put, and Mrs. Nguyen now rides up after morning coffee without help.

Outdoor

Outdoor Porch Lift in Cool Springs

Cool Springs, TN Installed April 2026

The Hendersons' Cool Springs home has six stone-paved porch steps with open flagstone on both sides and no railing. Mr. Henderson uses a walker and had stopped using the front door entirely. We installed a cream-colored outdoor lift anchored into the stone with stainless bolts. The IP55-rated, weather-sealed motor handles Shelby County's humid summers and winter ice. The lift runs on a dedicated outdoor GFCI circuit installed during the job.

Carpeted Staircase in Herons Ridge Family Home

Herons Ridge, TN Installed March 2026

The Simmonses' two-story in Herons Ridge has a carpeted staircase — beige plush, 12 treads, standard 36-inch width, tiled foyer at the base. We bolted the brown rail through the carpet into the wood sub-tread — fibers close back around each bolt, nearly invisible. The seat parks near the upper landing. Mrs. Simmons chose brown upholstery to match the carpet; her son said it looks like it was always there.

Platform Lift

Indoor Wheelchair Platform in Fairway Meadows

Fairway Meadows, TN Installed October 2025

The Brooks family in Fairway Meadows needed a wheelchair platform for their son — straight indoor staircase, 15 treads, 38 inches wide. We installed an inclined platform with a flat black deck, yellow safety edges, and a white handrail. Carries 600 lb, folds against the wall when not in use. A dedicated 20-amp circuit runs to the base. Yellow safety edges — visible in low light, no one trips.

Common Questions

Everything Lakeland Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Lakeland?

Straight stairlifts in Lakeland start at $2,800 installed. That covers the rail, seat, battery backup, and labor — typically a 3-hour job on a standard flight of stairs. Most Lakeland homes built from the 1990s onward have straight staircases, so this is the most common install we do here. The final price depends on rail length (most Lakeland staircases run 12 to 16 feet) and whether you add options like a power swivel seat or folding rail.

What does a curved stairlift cost in Lakeland?

Curved stairlifts in Lakeland start at $9,000. The rail is custom-bent to your exact stair shape after a 1-hour laser measurement on site. We see curved needs most often in the larger two-story homes in Plantation Hills, Bentbrooke Hills, and Fairway Meadows, where staircases turn 90 degrees at a landing. The custom fabrication adds 2 to 3 weeks to the timeline compared to a straight install.

Does the age of my Lakeland home affect installation cost?

Not for the labor. Lakeland's housing stock is relatively young — median build year is around 2000 — so we rarely run into structural surprises. Older split-levels in Stonebridge and Canada Woods sometimes have narrower treads (under 32 inches), which calls for a slim-rail model at the same $2,800 starting price. The rail still bolts to the treads, not the wall, and the install time stays at 3 to 4 hours.

Are there HOA rules in Lakeland lake-access subdivisions about stairlifts?

Stairlifts are classified as medical equipment under the federal Fair Housing Act (42 USC 3604(f)(3)(A)), which overrides HOA restrictions. The Garner Lake subdivisions — Windward Slopes, East Shores, The Preserve, Long's Landing, The Pointe, and Lakeland Estates — cannot block a stairlift install. We have put lifts in homes on every shoreline street around the lake and never had a board challenge. Outdoor lifts on lake-facing decks use IP55-rated, weather-sealed components that handle Shelby County's humidity.

A word from Luis

Lakeland keeps me busy. The Garner Lake subdivisions — Windward Slopes, The Preserve, East Shores — those homes have some of the widest staircases in Shelby County. A straight install there is about three hours. But I also work the older split-levels in Stonebridge and Canada Woods, where the stairs are narrower and carpeted. Different house, same result: the lift bolts to the treads, not the wall.

The one thing I tell every Lakeland family: the lake-access HOA rules don't apply to stairlifts. These are medical devices under federal Fair Housing law. I've installed on every shoreline street around Garner Lake and never had a board pushback. If your mom is avoiding the upstairs because of the stairs, call me. We can have her using that bedroom again by Thursday.
