Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Tompkins County

Tompkins County, NY

We install across every Ithaca neighborhood, and each one has its own stair geometry. Fall Creek homes built between 1890 and 1925 have steep, narrow runs — typically 32-inch tread width with one square turn at the landing. Belle Sherman and Bryant Park have deep colonials with straight 14- to 16-foot runs that take a standard rail. Cornell Heights mixes early 1900s mansions with century-old fraternity houses where curved rails are the rule. South Hill off Coddington and Hudson is split-level territory — short flights, intermediate landings. West Hill hugs the slope above Route 13 with walkout basements. Inlet Island and Collegetown's lower residential streets round out our service map.

Straight

Fall Creek — straight rail on original chestnut treads

Fall Creek, NY Installed February 2026

1908 Foursquare on Linden Avenue with the original chestnut hardwood treads. We bolted a 14-foot straight rail directly to the treads using stainless lag screws — no wall damage, no track on the spindles. The beige seat parks at the bottom landing just inside the front hall. Luis matched the lag-screw spacing to the existing nail holes from a 1970s carpet runner.

Cornell Heights, NY Installed February 2026

1922 Tudor with a 90-degree turn at the upper half-landing and a chandelier hanging two feet off the inside of the curve. We digital-scanned the run, fabricated a custom rail, and threaded it past the chandelier with two inches to spare. The brown seat parks at the upper landing where the homeowner reads in the morning light.

Belle Sherman — compact rail beside the maple sideboard

Belle Sherman, NY Installed January 2026

1925 Cape on Mitchell Street with stone-tile treads in the entry and a maple sideboard at the foot of the stairs. The brown seat parks tight to the wainscoting so the sideboard stays accessible. Compact rail profile keeps the stair walkable for the rest of the family — a non-negotiable for a household of five.

Common Questions

Everything Ithaca Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Ithaca?

A straight rail in an Ithaca home with a single 13- to 14-riser run starts at $2,800 installed. That includes the rail, seat, swivel, two key fobs, the install labor, and a same-day function check. Most Belle Sherman and South Hill straight runs come in between $2,800 and $3,400.

Why do curved stairlifts cost more in Ithaca's older homes?

Curved rails on Cornell Heights or Fall Creek staircases are fabricated to your exact tread profile after a digital scan. The rail itself is custom — typical Ithaca curved installs run $9,000 to $13,500 depending on the number of turns and intermediate landings.

Are there any hidden fees on an Ithaca install?

No. Our quote includes rail, seat, install, code-required electrical, post-install training, and a one-year tune-up. We do not charge separately for stair measurement, removal of the old chair if you have one, or NHTD documentation.

Do you finance stairlifts for Ithaca homeowners?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month with approved credit through our partner lender. Most Tompkins County customers qualify with no down payment. We can also bill NHTD or a private long-term-care policy directly when applicable.

A word from Luis

I have measured stairs in nearly every Ithaca neighborhood — the 1890s rowhouses on Aurora Street in Fall Creek, the 1920s Tudors up in Cornell Heights, the postwar split-levels off Coddington Road in South Hill. None of them are square. Treads sag, walls bow, and half the homes here predate any modern stair code.

What that means for a stairlift in Ithaca: I take the rail off your tread depths, not a generic spec sheet. For homes near the gorges where Finger Lakes humidity runs high all summer, I seal every electrical junction and recommend a battery backup that survives the September power flickers off Cayuga. My quote is fixed before we sign — no change orders after the truck arrives.

— Luis Ramírez, Ithaca
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Ithaca homes were built for tenured professors and dairy-farm widows, not for anyone who has trouble with thirteen risers. The good news: the same craftsmanship that makes Fall Creek and Cornell Heights worth keeping also gives us solid framing to anchor a rail to. We have not yet met an Ithaca staircase we could not fit.

Call for a free in-home measurement. We bring a sample seat, a tape measure, and a quote that does not change after we leave your kitchen table.
