It comes down to the staircase, not the house. A straight run in one of the newer split-levels near the Chambersburg Mall corridor is the simpler, lower-cost install. Older farmhouses off Scotland Road or up toward South Mountain more often have a landing or a bend partway up, which means a custom-curved rail — that's built to the exact staircase and costs more than a straight system.
