The workhorse of Hagerstown’s rowhouses, colonials, and postwar ranches. Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in Washington County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next power outage. Every unit ships with sealed motor housing for Western Maryland’s four-season humidity cycling. Most installs wrap in under four hours.

Stairlift Service Across Washington County

Washington County, MD

From the 1890s–1920s brick rowhouses and Foursquares of the Downtown core and North End — where steep, narrow stairs with original hardwood treads date to the railroad era — to the Colonials and Craftsman bungalows of the South End, where wider stairs and mid-landing turns are common, and the postwar ranches and two-stories of Halfway, Robinwood, and Maugansville, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in Washington County.

1910 North End rowhouse — rail color-matched to original oak treads

North End, MD Installed March 2026

A 1910 brick rowhouse in Hagerstown's North End with original oak treads and a steep pitch typical of railroad-era worker housing. Mrs. Shank had been sleeping downstairs on the couch since Christmas. Her son called from Frederick and drove up for the assessment. We matched the rail to the original oak, bolted into the treads without touching the plaster walls, and installed in a single morning. Mrs. Shank rode upstairs before her son finished the paperwork.

90° landing turn in a 1935 South End colonial

South End, MD Installed February 2026

A 1935 colonial in the South End with a 90° turn at the upper landing and an original oak newel post that the Klines have maintained for 40 years. Mr. Kline had been sleeping in the downstairs den since his knee replacement in October. We digitally scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads past the newel post, and installed in a single afternoon. Mr. Kline slept in his own bed that night for the first time in four months.

Downtown Hagerstown rowhouse — compact rail in a 28-inch stairway

Downtown Hagerstown, MD Installed January 2026

A 1905 Downtown rowhouse with a narrow back staircase measuring 28 inches wide — built for Fairchild Aircraft workers, not for Mrs. Martin at 77. The stairs are the only route between the kitchen on the main floor and the bedroom upstairs. We fitted the compact-profile rail with a folding footrest so the lift tucks flat against the wall when parked, and her visiting grandchildren can still pass. She rides it six times a day.

Halfway raised porch — weather-sealed for Western Maryland winters

Halfway, MD Installed December 2025

A 1960s ranch in Halfway with a raised front porch and six concrete steps that ice over every winter. Mr. Rinehart is a Vietnam-era veteran who qualified for a HISA grant through the Martinsburg VA, just 20 minutes south across the West Virginia line. We prefilled the VA form, the prescription came back in six weeks, and the lift was installed before the first ice storm. Every bracket is sealed against Western Maryland humidity, and the cold-pack battery ran through two ice-storm outages without a service call.

Halfway split-level — swivel-exit on carpeted stairs

Halfway, MD Installed November 2025

A 1975 split-level in Halfway with 13 carpeted treads and a tight newel post at the bottom. Mrs. Bowman's primary concern was stepping off at the top — her husband had fallen there three times. We installed the swivel-exit seat that rotates 90° at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway carpet instead of the top step. Three falls before. Zero since.

Indoor wheelchair platform in a Maugansville ranch

Maugansville, MD Installed October 2025

The Barnhart family's father uses a power wheelchair after a construction accident. Their Maugansville ranch has a split-entry with four steps between the garage and the main floor. We installed an inclined platform lift with yellow high-visibility safety edges, a fold-up deck when not in use, and a keyed call station at the garage level. The Maryland CFC benefit covered the full cost — the family never wrote a check. Mr. Barnhart enters through his own garage independently for the first time since the accident.

Common Questions

Everything Hagerstown Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Washington County right now?

Straight rails in standard Hagerstown homes — the North End rowhouses, the South End colonials, the Halfway ranches — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for South End homes with mid-landing turns and staircases with unusual geometry run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase. Outdoor models for raised entries and exterior steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Hagerstown than Frederick or Baltimore?

Equipment prices are identical across Maryland — we don’t inflate quotes by market. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving original treads in pre-war North End rowhouses, compensating for tight back stairs in Downtown Foursquares, and the occasional electrical upgrade in a railroad-era home still running original wiring. Line items are on the written quote.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30–40% off a new install — factory-reconditioned with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never possible because each rail is custom-manufactured. If your Hagerstown home has a standard straight run, ask about refurbished inventory during the assessment.

Do I need to verify the MHIC license?

Yes — Maryland requires MHIC licensing for any home improvement work over $500. You can verify any contractor’s license at dllr.state.md.us/license/mhic. The MHIC Guaranty Fund protects homeowners up to $20,000 per claim if a licensed contractor fails to perform. All American is fully MHIC-licensed and insured in the State of Maryland.

A word from Luis

Most Hagerstown families call me after something has already happened — a fall on the steep basement stairs in a North End rowhouse, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs in months in a South End colonial, a daughter calling from Frederick or DC worried about her mother in a Downtown Hagerstown home she’s lived in since the 1980s.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
