Stairlift Service Across Kent County

Kent County, MI

Heritage Hill is where our most architecturally sensitive installs happen — over 1,300 homes built between 1843 and 1920 with original quarter-sawn oak treads and hand-turned walnut newel posts. We bolt into treads only, never the millwork. In Eastown and East Hills, 1910s–1930s Craftsman bungalows often have landing turns requiring curved rails. Belknap Lookout sits on the bluff above downtown with steep lot grades and exterior stairs that ice over every winter. The West Side has dense 1920s workers’ homes with steep, narrow staircases and a growing bilingual community. Creston Heights and Alger Heights have 1940s–1950s ranchers — straightforward installs that wrap in three hours. Beyond city limits, we cover Kentwood, Wyoming, East Grand Rapids, Walker, and Comstock Park with no travel surcharge.

1918 Eastown Craftsman — finish-matched slim-profile rail on quarter-sawn oak treads

Eastown, MI Installed February 2026

A 1918 Craftsman bungalow in Eastown with original quarter-sawn oak treads and a homeowner who told us the stairlift must not look like hospital equipment in her front hall. We specified the slim-profile hardwood-matched rail, brought stain samples to the consultation, matched the finish to the existing quarter-sawn oak, and mounted the chair so it parks flush against the wall at the bottom of the dark hardwood stairs. Mrs. VanderBerg still hosts her book club monthly — two members asked about the rail only because the chair is so quiet they heard it for the first time when she demonstrated it.

1875 Heritage Hill Italianate — curved rail through the 90° landing turn past the original walnut newel post

Heritage Hill, MI Installed March 2026

An 1875 Italianate in Heritage Hill — one of the 1,300+ National Register homes in the district — with an original walnut banister, hand-turned balusters, and a 90-degree landing turn at the upper floor. Mrs. DeVries’s first instruction was clear: the banister has been in the family for four generations and nobody was going to drill into it. We digitally scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that threads through the landing turn past the walnut newel post without grazing it, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper landing. Her church group visited that Sunday and didn’t notice it until she pointed it out.

Alger Heights Cape Cod — straight rail on stone treads in a cozy 1950s cottage

Alger Heights, MI Installed January 2026

A 1952 Cape Cod in Alger Heights with stone-tile stair treads and a wooden sideboard at the foot of the stairs that Mrs. Bakker refused to move. The compact staircase and traditional cottage layout left tight clearances, so we mounted the rail on the opposite side and positioned the brown-upholstered seat to fold flat against the wall. The cozy, traditional feel of the home is unchanged — Mrs. Bakker’s granddaughter said it looks like it was always there.

Belknap Lookout — outdoor porch lift on stone-paved entry steps above downtown

Belknap Lookout, MI Installed October 2025

A 1930s home on the Belknap Lookout bluff with a raised front porch and natural stone-paved entry steps leading up from the sidewalk. Mr. Hernandez is a retired National Guard veteran who qualified for an HISA grant through the Battle Creek VA. We anchored the weather-resistant cream seat to the stone paving, sealed every component to IP55 against West Michigan’s lake-effect winters, and ran the rail from the stone entry floor up to the covered porch landing. The entire consultation was conducted in Spanish for Mr. Hernandez’s mother. The lift ran through the full 2025–2026 winter without a service call.

West Side workers’ home — straight rail on carpeted treads in a steep 1926 stairwell

West Side, MI Installed November 2025

A 1926 two-story workers’ home on the West Side with steep, carpeted stairs and a small landing halfway up. Sra. Rodríguez had been sleeping on the couch for two months because the stairs were too steep after a fall. The entire assessment happened in Spanish. Luis fitted the narrowest-profile rail with a folding footrest, and the brown-upholstered seat blends so closely with the carpet tones that her daughter said it almost disappears on the staircase. She slept in her own bedroom the night we installed.

Platform Lift

Creston Heights — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a post-surgical recovery

Creston Heights, MI Installed September 2025

Mr. Okonkwo came home from Corewell Health Butterworth after a bilateral knee replacement at 420 lbs and uses a wheelchair full-time during recovery. The Creston Heights two-story has an indoor staircase between the main level and the bedrooms. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. The platform carries Mr. Okonkwo and his chair between floors without any transfer. His physical therapist cleared him for unassisted stair use five months later, but the family kept the lift for his mother.

Common Questions

Everything Grand Rapids Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Grand Rapids right now?

Straight rails in standard Kent County homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Heritage Hill Victorians with upper-landing turns, Eastown Craftsman bungalows with half-flight splits, and Kentwood split-levels with mid-landing turns — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and cold-weather-sealed models for raised entries and hillside staircases run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Heritage Hill than other neighborhoods?

Equipment prices are the same across Kent County — we don’t inflate quotes for Heritage Hill or East Grand Rapids addresses. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: historic millwork preservation, compensating rail mounts for 100-year-old treads that have settled unevenly, or finish-matching stain work. We tell you the line items upfront. No surprise premiums.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Kent County assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked dozens of West Side and Kentwood families through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge. For the city’s growing immigrant communities, we also coordinate interpreter services for Somali, Burmese, and other languages through our office.

Does the price include lake-effect weather protection?

Yes. Every Grand Rapids install ships with a humidity-rated lubricant spec and a sealed motor housing as the Michigan baseline. Outdoor installs additionally get cold-pack batteries rated to -30°F and stainless anchoring hardware — because 70 to 80 inches of annual lake-effect snow and road-salt exposure will destroy a standard zinc-plated rail in two winters. These are included in the quote, not listed as upgrades.

A word from Luis

Most Grand Rapids families call me after something has already gone wrong — a slip on steep hardwood treads in a Heritage Hill Victorian, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs in months after a knee replacement, a daughter in Chicago worried about her father alone in an Eastown craftsman he’s lived in since the 1970s.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
