The other half are the pre-war cottages in Undercliff and the cliff-top capes above Route 5 in Shadyside. Those treads are original oak, often 34 inches wide with a winder at the top, and a curved rail that hugs the inside stringer is the only thing that keeps the passing clearance safe. I measure on a Tuesday and most of my Edgewater installs are running by Friday.
