Stairlift Service Across Durham County

Durham County, NC

Trinity Park is where most curved-rail installs happen — 1910s–1930s bungalows near Duke's East Campus with ornate banisters and landing turns. Watts-Hillandale has similar vintage stock with wider stairwells suited to premium straight rails. Duke Park mixes 1920s bungalows with 1940s capes where tread widths vary house to house.

Old North Durham and Walltown have the most compact stairwells — 1910s–1920s worker cottages with narrow treads and steep pitches that call for slim-profile rails. Forest Hills has mid-century colonials with 14–16 step straight runs. Hope Valley features 1950s–1970s homes with angular staircases suited for curved rails. The Southpoint corridor's 1990s–2000s tract homes install in three hours flat.

Straight

Forest Hills colonial — straight rail on dark hardwood treads

Forest Hills, NC Installed March 2026

A 1965 colonial in Forest Hills with open-tread dark hardwood stairs and a straight 14-step run from the foyer to the second floor. The rail bolts directly into the oak treads — no wall mounting, no damage to the original woodwork. The beige seat sits at the bottom landing, folded flat against the wall when not in use, leaving the full stair width clear for the grandchildren.

Trinity Park bungalow — curved rail bends around the upper landing

Trinity Park, NC Installed February 2026

A 1920s bungalow two blocks from Duke's East Campus. The staircase bends 90 degrees at the upper landing around a half-wall with framed art above. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that hugs the balustrade, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor so Mrs. Blackwell steps off directly onto the upstairs hallway. The chandelier above the landing stays untouched.

Old North Durham cottage — compact straight rail near vintage furniture

Old North Durham, NC Installed January 2026

A 1922 worker cottage in Old North Durham with stone-look tile treads and a wooden sideboard at the foot of the stairs. The compact stairwell left just enough room for the straight rail and the brown-upholstered seat, which parks at the bottom next to a potted plant on the sideboard. The cottage feel stayed intact — cozy, traditional, undisturbed.

Walltown raised porch — outdoor lift on stone-paved entry steps

Walltown, NC Installed December 2025

A 1930s home in Walltown with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mr. Henderson is a Vietnam-era veteran whose HISA grant was processed through the Durham VA on Fulton Street. The cream-colored weather-sealed seat rides from the stone-paved ground level up to the covered porch, with IP55 motor housing and stainless fasteners rated for Piedmont humidity and rain.

Hope Valley colonial — straight rail on carpeted stairs at the landing

Hope Valley, NC Installed November 2025

A 1972 colonial in Hope Valley with carpeted stairs and a landing area. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones — you barely notice it parked at the landing. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath, leaving the pile undamaged. Wall-mounted light switches stayed in place, and the tiled floor at the base of the landing gives Mrs. Crawford a solid, level surface to step onto.

Platform Lift

Southpoint home — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a power chair user

Southpoint, NC Installed October 2025

A 2001 two-story home in the Southpoint corridor. Sra. Vargas's husband uses a power wheelchair and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. Luis conducted the consultation entirely in Spanish. The platform carries the chair and rider between floors — no transfers, no lifting.

Common Questions

Everything Durham Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Durham right now?

Straight rails in standard Durham homes — the Forest Hills colonials, the Hope Valley ranches, the Southpoint tract homes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most Trinity Park bungalows and Watts-Hillandale colonials with landing turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised porches and side entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Durham than Raleigh or Charlotte?

Equipment prices are identical across North Carolina. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: Trinity Park historic banister preservation, curved-rail fabrication for older Watts-Hillandale staircases, and the humidity-rated motor spec that's standard on every Piedmont install. We tell you the line items upfront. No Triangle premium.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Durham assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has served the growing Hispanic community along Roxboro Road and in south Durham for years. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees for homes near Duke or in historic neighborhoods?

Interior stairlift installs do not require historic-district review in Durham — regulations apply to exterior modifications only. Our quote covers the full install. What can add a line item is when a pre-1940 Trinity Park or Old North Durham home needs a new dedicated electrical circuit because the original wiring can't support the lift. If that's the case, we tell you on the first visit, use an NC-licensed electrician, and quote the cost upfront.

A word from Luis

Most Durham families call me after the Research Triangle lifestyle finally caught up with the house — a Duke professor who hasn't used the second-floor study in months, a retired tobacco worker in Old North Durham whose 1920s bungalow stairs are too steep, a daughter calling from Raleigh worried about her mother in a Hope Valley colonial she's lived in for 40 years.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
