Stairlift Service Across Cook County

Cook County, IL

River District bungalows from the 1940s and 1950s have narrow original treads and banister styles not manufactured in 70 years — slim-profile rails are essential. South Des Plaines split-level ranches from the 1960s and 1970s almost always need a curved rail for the 90-degree landing turn. Oakton corridor two-stories near Lee Street have standard-width stairs that install in three hours. Prairie Lakes townhomes from the 1970s have tight newel posts at the bottom landing. Maryville and Orchard Place homes tend toward wider treads and straightforward layouts. We staff dedicated specialists for Mount Prospect, Park Ridge, Niles, and Elk Grove Village.

1952 River District bungalow — straight rail on narrow original oak treads

River District, IL Installed March 2026

A 1952 bungalow a block from the Des Plaines River with 13 original oak treads, a 32-inch stair width, and a homeowner who had lived there since 1971. Mrs. Kowalski’s daughter called us after her mother slipped on the third step in February. We arrived the next morning, measured the narrow run, and confirmed the slim-profile rail would clear the passage while leaving 20 inches of walking clearance. The rail finish matches the warm oak tones. The cold-weather battery and thread-locked fasteners are standard here — a River District bungalow sees temperature swings that loosen standard hardware. Installed four days after the first call.

South Des Plaines ranch — curved rail through a split-level entry turn to upper landing

South Des Plaines, IL Installed February 2026

A 1964 split-level ranch in South Des Plaines with six steps up to the main living area, a 90-degree landing, and nine more steps to the bedrooms. Three companies told the Grabowskis they’d need two separate lifts. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit and fabricated a single curved rail that carries Mrs. Grabowski from the front entry to the upper hallway in one continuous ride. The seat parks at the top floor beside framed family photos on the wall. The swivel-exit seat rotates 90 degrees so she steps off onto the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top tread.

Maryville cottage — straight rail on stone-tile treads in a compact traditional stairwell

Maryville, IL Installed January 2026

A compact traditional home in the Maryville area with stone-capped treads, a wooden cabinet and potted plant crowding the bottom landing, and a cozy stairwell that felt more European cottage than suburban Chicago. Mrs. Patel’s mother had been managing the stairs but a polar vortex forecast changed the family’s calculus. We installed a straight rail bolted into the stone treads with masonry anchors, the brown-upholstered seat blending with the warm wood tones of the sideboard beside it. The compact space required a folding footrest that tucks completely flat. Three and a half hours from start to first ride.

Oakton corridor raised entry — outdoor lift on stone-paved porch steps with ice-proof startup

Oakton, IL Installed December 2025

A 1958 two-story on the Oakton Street corridor with a raised brick entry and eight rough natural stone-paved steps that ice over within two hours of any winter precipitation. Mr. Lindqvist, 81, had been using a rope tied to the railing to lower himself down. We installed a weather-sealed cream-colored outdoor seat on a de-icing epoxy rail, mounted over the stone paving with stainless fasteners. The drain-through seat cover sheds snow melt, the anti-ice startup heater keeps the motor responsive at -20°F, and the IP55 sealed housing keeps every component dry. He said it was the first winter in five years he hadn’t fallen on his own front steps.

Prairie Lakes townhome — straight rail on carpeted stairs with swivel exit at the landing

Prairie Lakes, IL Installed November 2025

A 1972 Prairie Lakes townhome with 14 carpeted treads and a tight newel post at the base. Mrs. Novak’s main concern was the exit at the top — she had stumbled twice stepping from the stair onto the hallway level. The brown-upholstered seat matches the warm carpet tones so naturally it almost disappears on the carpeted run. The rail bolts through the carpet into the subfloor beneath with no carpet removal. The swivel-exit seat rotates 90 degrees at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway floor before standing up. The tiled floor at the bottom landing stays clear with the seat folded flat.

Platform Lift

Orchard Place home — indoor wheelchair platform lift for a resident who cannot transfer to a seat

Orchard Place, IL Installed October 2025

Mr. Yamamoto’s renovated Orchard Place home has a stairway between the main floor and the lower family room. After a stroke in 2024 left him in a wheelchair full-time, a seated stairlift was not an option — he cannot transfer out of the chair. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges, white handrails on both sides, and an automatic locking gate. The orange-toned accent wall and window light give the space warmth. His wife said the yellow edges make it easy for him to position the chair even in low light. The platform folds flat against the wall when not in use.

Common Questions

Everything Des Plaines Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Des Plaines, IL right now?

Straight rails in standard Des Plaines homes — the River District bungalows, the Oakton corridor two-stories, the Prairie Lakes townhomes — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you’ll need for most South Des Plaines split-level landing turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised entries and icy front steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are there any extra charges for the cold-weather hardware?

No. Thread-locked rail fasteners and the cold-weather-rated battery are included as standard on every Des Plaines install — not options, not upgrades. Chicago-area freeze-thaw cycles loosen standard rail mounts over 2–3 seasons, and a battery that fails at -10°F is a battery that fails when you need it most. We made these standard because they prevent the service calls that damage trust after the sale.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving from Des Plaines to a single-story home?

Moving costs in Cook County’s northwest suburbs — real estate commission, closing costs, loss of assessed value from the Senior Freeze Exemption, and finding a single-story in a tight inventory market — typically exceed $20,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you keep the home you’ve owned since 1974. For most Des Plaines families, the stairlift costs less than the commission alone.

Do you offer financing if I don’t qualify for a grant?

Yes — three lending partners with 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans starting from $79/month. Application is a soft credit pull (no score impact), takes about 4 minutes, and approval is usually same-day. Many Des Plaines families combine financing with a partial Illinois CCP waiver benefit or with the annual savings from the Senior Assessment Freeze to bring the monthly balance down further. We walk you through the math at the free assessment.

A word from Luis

Most Des Plaines families call me after a winter that proved the stairs are no longer safe — a father who slipped on the split-level landing in South Des Plaines during a polar vortex outage, a mother in a River District bungalow who hasn’t been upstairs since her knee replacement at Lutheran General, a son in Michigan who can’t stop worrying about his 81-year-old dad using a rope to get down the front steps.

I’ve measured staircases in every Des Plaines neighborhood — every vintage, every layout, every problem. I’m at your house within 24 hours. One visit, one quote, honored for 30 days. No pressure. En español si lo prefiere.
