Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across Cook County

Cook County, IL

From the 1950s cape cods of Lions Park near the Metra station — shorter staircases, narrower stairwells, the neighborhood where Mount Prospect's first wave of buyers settled — to the larger colonials of Harvest Heights in the north end with open foyers and 16-foot straight stair runs. The Busse Farm and Old Orchard neighborhoods, built predominantly between 1965 and 1975, have the highest concentration of split-level floor plans with mid-landing 90-degree turns that require curved rails. Forest River along the Des Plaines River border has a later build wave (1975–1985) with wider stair runs that accommodate every product in our lineup without modification. Cold-rated batteries and thread-locked fasteners ship standard on every Cook County install — thermal cycling between summer and winter loosens standard hardware within two seasons. We also cover Des Plaines, Prospect Heights, Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, Wheeling, and Elk Grove Village.

Busse Farm split-level — straight rail on dark oak treads, warm residential entry

Busse Farm, IL Installed March 2026

A 1969 split-level in Busse Farm with dark oak open-tread stairs running from the entry foyer up to the main living level. Mr. Schultz had a hip replacement in October and had been sleeping in the first-floor den since then. His wife called us after a second company quoted two separate lifts. We bolted a straight rail directly into the oak treads on the right side, threaded the track past the original newel post, and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing where it folds flat against the wall. The warm hardwood tones and the cream upholstery blend into the entry. Thread-locked fasteners and cold-rated batteries ship standard — the den went back to being a den by that weekend.

Harvest Heights colonial — curved rail bending around upper-landing half-wall

Harvest Heights, IL Installed February 2026

A 1972 colonial in Harvest Heights with a 16-foot open staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing around a decorative half-wall. Mrs. Andersen had lived in the house 44 years and her daughter in Evanston had been asking her to move for two winters. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a curved rail that follows the turn at the upper floor, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top landing so she steps off directly onto the hallway. Framed photos on the stairway wall stayed exactly where they were. Her bridge club met two weeks later — three of the four ladies walked up without noticing the lift. The fourth sat in it before she realized what it was.

Old Orchard ranch — straight rail in compact traditional stairwell near furniture

Old Orchard, IL Installed January 2026

A 1961 ranch in Old Orchard with 11 carpeted treads, a tight newel post at the bottom, and a wooden sideboard next to the stair entry that Mrs. Nakamura refused to move. The compact stairwell left 33 inches of clear rail width. We installed the swivel-exit seat at the top landing and ran the slim-profile rail so the folded chair clears the sideboard and the bottom newel post. The cottage-style interior — stone-tile accents, warm wood furniture, potted plant on the cabinet — stays exactly as it was. Her son reviewed the install on a FaceTime call from Seattle.

Forest River — weather-sealed outdoor rail on raised brick-paver entry, VA HISA funded

Forest River, IL Installed December 2025

A Forest River home from 1979 with seven raised brick-paver front entry steps and a covered porch. Mr. Kowalski served two tours in Vietnam and had been gripping the iron railing with both hands every January morning for three years. He qualified for the VA HISA grant through his Hines VA provider. We prefilled VA Form 10-0103 at the kitchen table, received authorization in six weeks. The outdoor rail is anchored into the stone paving with stainless wedge bolts, the cream weather-resistant seat sits at the porch level, and the motor housing is IP55 weather-sealed. The lift ran through a full Cook County winter — polar vortex, ice storms, road-salt spray — without a service call.

Lions Park cape cod — straight rail on carpeted stairs, carpet-tone seat match

Lions Park, IL Installed November 2025

A 1957 cape cod near the Lions Park Metra station with carpeted treads, a landing area at the midpoint, and a ceiling at the top step that runs just six feet four inches. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tone so closely it blends into the stairwell. The slim low-profile rail — two inches narrower than standard — preserves 28 inches of walkable width on the cape cod's tighter staircase. Rail anchors through the carpet and pad into the subfloor with lag bolts. Wall-mounted light switches stayed accessible on both sides. Mrs. Garcia applied for the Illinois Home Services Program through IDHS-DRS and paid nothing out of pocket.

Platform Lift

Village Center townhome — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Mount Prospect Village Center, IL Installed October 2025

A 2002 townhome two blocks from the Mount Prospect Metra station with a split-entry layout — five steps up to the living level and five steps down to the lower family room. Mr. Brennan uses a manual wheelchair following a stroke in 2024. The indoor inclined platform lift has a flat black anti-slip surface with bright yellow high-visibility safety edges on every moving surface, a white handrail on the wall side, and interlocked safety gates at both levels. The orange-toned walls and window light in the stairway stayed untouched. Luis walked the family through the Illinois Condominium Property Act §18.4(h) accommodation process. The Community Care Program through the Suburban Cook County AAA covered the full cost.

Common Questions

Everything Mount Prospect Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Mount Prospect right now?

Straight rails in the standard Mount Prospect colonial or ranch format run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — which most Busse Farm and Old Orchard split-levels require because of the mid-landing 90° turn — run $9,000 to $15,000, because the rail is custom-manufactured to your staircase geometry, not a stock part. Outdoor weather-sealed models for raised front entries and side porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-rated battery backup, and the first service visit. No surprise line items after the quote.

Why do curved rails cost more — is there a cheaper option for a split-level?

The curved rail costs more because it's manufactured for your specific staircase — measured with a laser on the first visit, fabricated to your exact geometry, and typically takes 10 to 14 days to produce. The cheaper alternative is two separate straight rails with a walking transfer at the mid-landing. We offer that option, but we tell you honestly: if the mid-landing is the reason you need a lift, a mid-landing transfer defeats the purpose. For Mount Prospect's 1960s-1970s split-levels, the curved rail is almost always the right answer. We'll show you both prices and let you decide.

Do you charge extra for the cold-weather battery upgrade in Illinois?

No — it ships standard on every Mount Prospect install. Cook County winters regularly push sub-freezing for weeks, and polar-vortex events drop below -10°F. Standard lead-acid batteries lose meaningful capacity at those temperatures. Our cold-weather-rated batteries and thread-locked rail fasteners — which resist the thermal expansion-contraction cycle between summer and winter — are included in the base quote. Not an upgrade, not an add-on.

Any hidden fees for townhomes or condos near the Village Center?

Our quote includes any condo-board accommodation paperwork we handle for you. Mount Prospect's downtown corridor has a growing stock of mid-rise condos and townhome associations from the 1990s and 2000s. Illinois Condominium Property Act §18.4(h) requires boards to approve accessibility modifications — the accommodation letters are already templated and we've submitted them to several Mount Prospect associations. If a board requires a structural engineer's letter (rare), we tell you before we start.

A word from Luis

Mount Prospect grew fastest from 1955 to 1975, and the homes from that era tell the same story in every neighborhood: a two-story colonial or a split-level with a mid-landing, built when families planned to live there for 30 years and nobody was thinking about what 75 looks like on a staircase. Now those families are at 75, or 80, and the staircase hasn't changed but everything else has.

My promise: on-site within 24 hours anywhere from Harvest Heights to the Village Center corridor, a written quote honored for 30 days, and cold-rated battery backup on every install as a baseline spec. The Hines VA is 25 minutes south on I-294 and I know their HISA coordinators by name — I prefill VA Form 10-0103 at the kitchen table so you don't have to navigate that paperwork alone. Illinois's Community Care Program intake for Mount Prospect runs through the Suburban Cook County Area Agency on Aging. I've walked more than a dozen families through it. Hablamos español si lo prefiere.
