Stairlift Service Across Lancaster County

Lancaster County, PA

On Locust Street and the historic district, pre-Civil War row homes and Victorian twins have enclosed staircases with treads as narrow as 29 inches — compact-profile rails are standard here. Third Street Victorians from the 1880s–1900s feature ornate newel posts and formal foyer stairs with walnut banisters. Manor Street workers’ row homes from the 1870s have steep, straight runs with original pine treads.

Along Route 462 and Ironville Pike, mid-century ranches and split-levels from the 1950s–1970s have walkout basements and standard-width stairwells. Union Street two-stories have raised front porches with concrete steps exposed to Susquehanna River fog. We also cover Manor, Mountville, Marietta, and Wrightsville — same pricing, no mileage surcharge.

Straight

Locust Street row home — straight rail in a 29-inch-wide stairwell

Locust Street, PA Installed March 2026

A pre-Civil War row home on Locust Street in Columbia’s historic district with 13 original pine treads and a stairwell measuring just 29 inches wall-to-wall. The daughter called after her mother fell twice in three months on the steep enclosed staircase. We specified the compact-profile rail that projects only 11.25 inches from the wall when the seat is folded. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom of the dark hardwood stairs, ready for Mrs. Trimble’s next ride. The folded seat leaves 17.75 inches of clear passage — enough for family members to walk past without turning sideways.

Third Street Victorian — curved rail through a formal foyer turn past carved newel post

Third Street, PA Installed January 2026

An 1890s Victorian twin on Third Street with a formal foyer staircase, original walnut banister, and a carved newel post the owners insisted remain untouched. The upper landing turn measured 88 degrees — close to 90 but different enough to require custom rail fabrication. We digitally scanned the geometry, fabricated a custom-sweep rail in twelve days, and installed in one afternoon. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper floor landing where the curved rail bends around the half-wall balustrade. Mr. Conway swivels 90 degrees at the top and steps off onto the hallway floor. Original spindles, newel post, and plaster walls remain untouched.

Straight

Manor Street workers’ row — straight rail on steep original pine treads

Manor Street, PA Installed December 2025

An 1870s workers’ row home on Manor Street with steep original pine treads, a compact staircase next to a wooden sideboard the family has kept in the same spot for years, and the typical narrow layout of Columbia’s industrial-era housing. Mrs. Perez qualified for a stairlift through her Community HealthChoices plan after her service coordinator included it as an environmental modification. We bolted the straight rail into the pine tread nosings — the brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom near the sideboard and potted plant, and folds flat when not in use. The row home character of the home is unchanged.

Outdoor

Union Street two-story — weather-sealed outdoor lift on icy concrete porch steps

Union Street, PA Installed October 2025

A 1920s two-story on Union Street with a raised front porch and seven concrete steps exposed to Susquehanna River fog, ice, and freeze-thaw cycles six months of the year. Mrs. Garza fractured her wrist on the icy bottom step in January and her daughter refused to let her use the front entrance until something changed. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail with a cream-colored seat, corrosion-resistant mounting bolts rated for road-salt exposure, and a weather hood over the joystick. The cream-colored weather-sealed seat sits at the stone-paved entry, with natural daylight from above and a carpeted outdoor tread at the bottom step. The lift handled its first full winter without a single service call.

Ironville Pike ranch — straight rail on carpeted basement stairs with power swivel exit

Ironville Pike, PA Installed February 2026

A 1960s ranch on Ironville Pike with a full interior staircase to the finished basement, wall-to-wall carpet on every tread, and a tiled floor at the basement landing. Mr. Moyer stopped using the basement workshop after a knee replacement at Lancaster General Hospital and needed a lift that let him step off without torquing the replaced joint. The rail bolts right through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The brown-upholstered seat matches the warm carpet tones, and the power swivel exit at the lower landing lets him stand facing the basement rather than twisting on the bottom step.

Platform Lift

Historic district row home — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Locust Street, PA Installed December 2025

A mid-1800s row home in Columbia’s historic district with a staircase climbing two half-flights to the upper bedrooms. Mr. Whitmore uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform and gate thresholds, and a white handrail along the indoor stairway. The original plaster walls and window at the landing remain untouched. Mr. Whitmore rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and exits on the upper floor without ever leaving his chair. No transfers, no standing, no risk.

Common Questions

Everything Columbia Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Columbia right now?

Straight rails in standard Lancaster County homes range $2,800–$5,500 installed. Curved rails (common in Locust Street Victorian row homes with enclosed landing turns, Third Street mansions with formal foyer curves, and older two-stories with L-shaped runs) range $9,000–$15,000 due to custom rail fabrication. Outdoor models for raised porches and concrete entry steps range $4,000–$7,500. Every quote includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and first service visit.

Are prices different in the historic district than on Route 462?

Equipment prices remain consistent across Lancaster County. Slight labor variations occur for unusual conditions: narrow stairwells under 30 inches wide in pre-Civil War row homes requiring compact-profile hardware, or compensating rail mounts for 130-year-old treads that have settled unevenly. All line items appear upfront; no surprise premiums.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. All Lancaster County assessments can be conducted in Spanish upon request — Luis provides bilingual consultations for families across the Susquehanna Valley. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish at no surcharge.

Does the price include moisture protection for river-area homes?

Yes. All Columbia installs ship with humidity-rated lubricant specification and sealed motor housing as the Susquehanna Valley baseline — river fog and basement dampness in riverfront row homes degrade standard factory grease within two seasons. These are included in quoted price, not listed separately. Outdoor installs additionally include UV-coated housing and weather hood over joystick at no extra charge.

A word from Luis

Columbia sits on the Susquehanna River in western Lancaster County, and the housing stock here is different from anywhere else in the region. You have pre-Civil War row homes on Locust Street with staircases so narrow two people can’t pass, Victorian-era twins on Third Street with 14-foot ceilings and ornate newel posts the owners will not let you scratch, and mid-century ranches along Route 462 where finished basements added a full second staircase nobody planned for when the house was built.

I’ve measured staircases in every part of Columbia — the steep enclosed runs in Manor Street row homes where the wall-to-wall distance is 29 inches, the curved formal staircases in the Locust Street historic district mansions, the concrete porch steps on Union Street two-stories where river fog and winter ice create a fall risk six months of the year. I know which 1890s treads are solid oak versus patched softwood, and which Third Street Victorians still have the original gas-era wiring chases that complicate outlet placement.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
