Stairlift Service Across York County

York County, PA

From the steep rowhouse staircases of Downtown York to the mid-century colonials in Springettsbury, from the Victorian twins along Spring Garden and West York to the post-war ranches in North York and Grantley, our team has measured stairs on every street in this city. We know which downtown blocks have the 28-inch-wide stairwells that require the compact-profile rail, which Spring Garden homes have the tight turn at the landing, and which Springettsbury split-levels have the non-standard tread depth that throws off a factory rail mount.

Because York County includes dozens of surrounding boroughs — Hanover, Red Lion, Dallastown, Shrewsbury, Dover — we cover the entire county without additional travel charges.

Dark oak rowhouse stairs in downtown York — beige seat, original banister preserved

Downtown York, PA Installed March 2026

A 1908 rowhouse on West Market Street with stairs only 30 inches wide between the plaster wall and the original oak banister. Two other installers declined the job. We brought the compact-profile rail, measured the tread width twice, and bolted the rail into the hardwood treads without touching the banister or the plaster. The beige seat folds to just 11 inches, leaving enough clearance for Mrs. Martindale’s grandson to walk past on the stairs. She rides it six times a day and hasn’t needed help on the stairs since the install.

90° curved rail in a Spring Garden Victorian twin — brown seat at the upper landing

Spring Garden, PA Installed February 2026

A Victorian twin in Spring Garden with an L-shaped staircase and a turn at the upper landing. The original ceiling light fixture hung directly in the path of a standard rail. We laser-scanned the staircase, designed the curved rail to clear the fixture by two inches, and fabricated a single continuous track from the entry hall to the upstairs bedrooms. The brown seat matches the existing woodwork. Mr. Kowalski’s father-in-law rides it every day without giving the light fixture a second thought.

Stone-tile treads in a Springettsbury cottage — compact rail beside the wooden sideboard

Springettsbury, PA Installed January 2026

A mid-century cottage in Springettsbury with stone-tiled treads and a staircase 33 inches wide. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom of the stairs next to the family’s wooden sideboard and a potted plant Mrs. Ortiz keeps by the landing. The stone tiles gave the slim-profile rail solid anchoring — folded, the seat and rail together take up just 11 inches, leaving clear passage for the grandchildren who visit every Sunday.

Outdoor

Outdoor rail on stone paving at a West York raised entry

West York, PA Installed December 2025

A raised front entry in West York with six rough stone paving steps that ice over every winter. Mr. Snyder is a 78-year-old veteran who served at the former York Defense Depot. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat sits at the base of the entry, ready when he returns from errands. The freeze-proof battery rode through the February 2026 ice storm without a hiccup. The HISA grant through the Lebanon VA covered $6,800 of the cost. Every component is galvanized and rated for Pennsylvania’s 60+ annual freeze-thaw cycles.

Carpeted stairs in a North York two-story — swivel seat at the landing

North York, PA Installed November 2025

A 1960s two-story in North York with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mrs. Zimmerman’s husband fell at the top of the stairs in socks on carpet, middle of the night. We installed a seat with a powered swivel at the upper landing so he steps off onto the hallway floor instead of balancing on the top tread. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The seat folds flat against the wall.

Platform Lift

Indoor platform lift with yellow safety edges for a Grantley veteran

Grantley, PA Installed October 2025

A two-story brick home in Grantley near the Country Club of York. Mr. Velazquez is a disabled veteran who uses a power wheelchair full-time. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all thresholds, white handrails, and a keyed lockout so the grandchildren who visit from Lancaster can’t activate it unsupervised. The HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum, and the PA Community HealthChoices waiver covered the remaining balance. He rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair.

Common Questions

Everything York Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in York right now?

Straight rails in standard York homes run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — needed for Spring Garden L-shaped staircases and downtown rowhouse turns — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured. Outdoor models with freeze-proof hardware run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

York is more affordable than Harrisburg or Lancaster. Does that affect pricing?

Equipment prices are identical across central PA. We don’t raise or lower quotes based on zip code. York families do tend to use grant funding at higher rates — the PA CHC waiver, the OPTIONS program, and the VA HISA grant are all heavily used here. We walk every family through the funding options during the free assessment.

Do narrow rowhouse stairs cost more to install?

The compact-profile rail fits staircases as narrow as 26 inches, which covers the vast majority of York rowhouses. Narrow stairs don’t increase the equipment price. Occasionally the century-old treads need a backing plate to distribute the bolt load, which adds $50–$100 in hardware. We tell you at the assessment, not on install day.

Do you charge extra for the steep-pitch adjustment some rowhouses need?

The adjustable-angle mount is part of our standard kit on every York assessment — we need it roughly one in four installs because many 1880s–1920s rowhouses have staircase pitches steeper than modern code. No extra charge. If the pitch exceeds the mount range (extremely rare), we tell you at the assessment and suggest alternatives.

A word from Luis

Most York families call after a close call on the stairs — a slip in a downtown rowhouse, a parent who hasn’t been upstairs since the hip surgery, a veteran in Springettsbury whose knees can’t do the 14 steps to the bedroom anymore.

My job is straightforward: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and hand you a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. The Lebanon VA is 45 minutes away and I’ve handled the HISA paperwork dozens of times for York County veterans.
