Stairlift Service Across Kanawha County

Kanawha County, WV

In the East End Historic District, Queen Anne homes along Virginia Street and Quarrier Street orient stair-step to the hillside, with 90° landings that take curved-rail fabrication past original turned-spindle balusters. South Hills colonials built into the Kanawha Valley hillsides have steep exterior entry stairs and interior flights with unusual pitch angles.

The Edgewood Historic District — Charleston's first planned subdivision (c. 1905) — features Colonial Revivals and Craftsman bungalows on steep downhill grades. Kanawha City ranches from the 1950s–60s have raised entries and walkout basements. West Side and Elk City hold compact 1900s homes with stairwells under 30 inches wide. We also cover South Charleston, St. Albans, Nitro, and Cross Lanes.

Straight

East End Victorian — straight rail on original hardwood treads

East End Historic District, WV Installed March 2026

A 1905 Queen Anne on Virginia Street in the East End Historic District with 14 original hardwood treads. The beige seat sits unfolded at the bottom of the dark hardwood open-tread stairs, the straight rail bolted into the tread nosings on the right side. Mrs. Morrison's family has owned the house for three generations. Nothing touches the original millwork — the turned-spindle baluster and carved newel post stay untouched.

Edgewood Drive Colonial Revival — curved rail at upper-landing turn

Edgewood Historic District, WV Installed February 2026

A renovated 1908 Colonial Revival on Edgewood Drive in Charleston's first planned subdivision, with an open stairwell and a 90° turn at the upper landing. The brown seat parks at the second floor where the curved rail bends around a half-wall under a contemporary chandelier. We laser-scanned the staircase and fabricated a swept-elbow curved rail — Mrs. Chambers steps off onto the hallway floor, not the top tread.

West Side bungalow — compact straight rail on stone-tile treads

West Side, WV Installed December 2025

A 1930s bungalow on the West Side with light stone-tile treads and a compact stairwell next to a wooden sideboard and potted plant at the base. The brown seat sits at the bottom in a cozy traditional interior. The Franklin family replaced the original wood treads with stone tile in a 2010 renovation; the 29-inch stairwell width stayed. The compact-profile straight rail bolts into the stone treads with masonry anchors.

South Hills colonial — outdoor rail on stone-paved hillside entry

South Hills, WV Installed January 2026

A hillside colonial in South Hills where the front door sits 20 feet above street level, accessed by a steep flagstone-paved approach. The cream weather-resistant seat sits at the bottom with natural daylight. Mr. Jenkins had a knee replacement at CAMC General on Morris Street and could no longer manage the 26 steps. We installed an outdoor rail with epoxy coating, IP55 sealed motor for Appalachian freeze-thaw, and a heated-rail option.

Kanawha City ranch — straight rail on carpeted stairs to walkout basement

Kanawha City, WV Installed November 2025

A 1960s ranch in Kanawha City with carpeted stairs near the upper landing where the brown seat blends with the warm carpet tones. Mr. Washington was recovering from back surgery at CAMC General with limited mobility for eight weeks. The straight rail runs along the carpet-covered treads to the tile floor at the basement entry. The power swivel exit at the top lets him turn and stand safely.

Platform Lift

Elk City hillside home — indoor wheelchair platform lift between levels

Elk City, WV Installed October 2025

A hillside home in the Elk City neighborhood across the Elk River, where Mr. Adkins's stroke left him wheelchair-bound. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift on the indoor stairway — a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow safety edges, a white handrail on the open side, and a 600-lb load rating. The warm wood-paneled walls typical of Kanawha Valley interiors stayed untouched.

Common Questions

Everything Charleston Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Charleston right now?

Straight rails in standard Charleston homes — the Kanawha City ranches with raised entries, the South Hills colonials built into the hillside, the East End Queen Annes with 14-foot stair runs — run $2,750 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level entries and L-shaped staircases run $8,800 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-manufactured to your exact stair geometry. Outdoor models rated for Appalachian freeze-thaw cycles and steep exterior approaches run $3,900 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are there hidden fees we should watch out for?

From us, no. Our written quote includes equipment, custom rail fabrication, full installation, safety testing, remote pairing, and your first service visit. What you should watch for with other companies: measurement fees, travel surcharges if you're outside the Kanawha Valley, permit handling fees, and “warranty activation” charges. Ask any installer to list each line item — if they won't, that's your answer.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story in Charleston?

Significantly. Even in Kanawha County's affordable market, between realtor commissions, closing costs, moving expenses, and the disruption of leaving a home you've lived in for decades, downsizing runs $20,000 to $45,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installed and warrantied costs under $5,500. A curved rail for the most complex staircase in Charleston costs under $15,000. And in a hillside city where single-story homes are genuinely scarce, finding a flat alternative is harder than people expect.

Can I pay monthly instead of one large payment?

Yes. We work with three lending partners that offer 0% APR for qualified buyers and low fixed-rate plans starting around $79/mo. The application is a soft credit pull (no hit to your score), takes about four minutes, and approval is usually instant. You can also combine financing with VA grants or the IRS medical deduction to reduce the borrowed amount first.

A word from Luis

Most Charleston families call me after something has already changed — a fall on the steep exterior steps in a South Hills hillside colonial, a parent who hasn't been to the second floor of the East End Queen Anne in months, a daughter in Northern Virginia worried about her father alone in the Kanawha City ranch he's lived in since 1975.

My job is simple: I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price held for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells.
