Straight Stairlift — Champaign, IL

Straight Stairlift

The standard for Champaign's Victorians, bungalows, and Garden Hills ranches.

Most stairlifts we install in Champaign are straight rails. The track bolts to your stair treads — never into the wall — the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through winter power outages. Most Garden Hills and Country Fair installs finish in under four hours. Old Town Victorians with steep pitches sometimes take longer due to the rail angle.

Starting at $2,800 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across Champaign County

Champaign County, IL

Old Town north of downtown holds Champaign's oldest housing — Queen Anne mansions, Craftsman bungalows, and Foursquares from the 1880s through the 1920s with steep stair runs, narrow treads, and original woodwork the owners refuse to alter. West Champaign near West Side Park has historic mansions from the same era. Stratton, also north of downtown, has homes approaching 100 years old with similar steep stair geometries. Garden Hills south of town is classic 1950s–60s ranch territory where we do the highest volume of straight installs. Clark Park near the Champaign Country Club has diverse stock from Craftsman to mid-century, and Country Fair is 1970s split-level and raised-entry territory where curved rails and outdoor lifts are common.

We also cover Urbana, Savoy, Mahomet, St. Joseph, Rantoul, and Danville — no mileage surcharge anywhere in Champaign County.

1908 Old Town Victorian — straight rail on original oak treads

Old Town, IL Installed March 2026

A 1908 Victorian two blocks from downtown Champaign with 15 original oak treads and a steep pitch. Mrs. Rutherford broke her ankle on the top tread in January and spent six weeks sleeping on the parlor sofa. We laser-measured the 16-foot run, confirmed the oak treads could accept the mounting hardware without splitting, and bolted the rail directly into the treads — never touching the carved newel post or the original plaster walls. The beige seat sits at the bottom landing, folded out of the way when not in use.

1972 Country Fair split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

Country Fair, IL Installed February 2026

A 1972 split-level in Country Fair with a 90-degree turn at the upper landing. Two other installers quoted two separate lifts. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a single curved rail that bends around the half-wall at the upper floor, and installed a brown-upholstered swivel-exit seat that parks at the top hallway. Mr. Henson — a retired U of I engineer — asked to see the scan data and approved the fabrication tolerances before we started.

1924 Stratton cottage — compact rail in a narrow traditional stairway

Stratton, IL Installed January 2026

A 1924 Craftsman cottage in Stratton with stone foundation walls and a staircase only 31 inches wide. The brown-upholstered seat sits at the bottom of the stairs near a wooden sideboard the family kept in place. We specified the slim-profile model — folded seat and rail together take up 11 inches, leaving room for the grandchildren. The original lath-and-plaster walls and cozy cottage feel stayed completely intact.

Garden Hills ranch — outdoor lift on stone-paved front entry steps

Garden Hills, IL Installed December 2025

A 1958 ranch in Garden Hills with a raised front porch and six stone-paved entry steps from the driveway to the front door. Mr. Dillard is a veteran enrolled at the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat rides up the stone steps to the covered porch entry. The HISA grant covered $6,800 of the cost, and every outdoor component is sealed against Central Illinois freeze-thaw cycles and summer UV exposure.

Garden Hills ranch — carpeted stairs, Wednesday measure, Friday install

Garden Hills, IL Installed November 2025

A 1960s ranch in Garden Hills with carpeted stairs and a standard 36-inch-wide staircase. Mrs. Okafor's daughter called from Indianapolis on a Wednesday, we measured that afternoon, and installed Friday morning. The brown-upholstered seat matches the carpet tones, and the rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal. The seat folds flat at the landing so the stairwell stays clear for the grandchildren.

Platform Lift

Clark Park home — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Clark Park, IL Installed October 2025

A two-story home near Clark Park. Mr. Washington is a disabled veteran who served at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul before it closed in 1993 and uses a power wheelchair full-time. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip platform, yellow high-visibility safety edges, and a keyed lockout. The orange-toned walls of the indoor stairway frame the white handrail. The Danville VA HISA grant covered $6,800, and the Illinois Home Services Program covered the remaining balance.

Common Questions

Everything Champaign Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Champaign right now?

Straight rails in standard Champaign homes — the Garden Hills ranches, the Old Town Victorians, the Country Fair split-levels — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most 1970s split-levels with a landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts for raised entries and stone porch steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every written quote includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Champaign than in Springfield or Decatur?

Equipment prices are the same across Central Illinois — we don't inflate quotes based on city or zip code. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: steep Victorian stair pitches in Old Town, pre-1950 electrical work in Stratton cottages, and compensating rail mounts for century-old treads that have settled unevenly. We tell you the line items upfront.

Is a refurbished stairlift worth considering in Champaign?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40%. We carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. Every refurbished unit ships with the cold-weather package for Central Illinois winters. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never an option because the rail is custom-built to your staircase geometry. Ask during the assessment and we'll tell you honestly whether refurbished makes sense for your staircase.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Champaign assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and handles calls from start to install in the family's preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

A word from Luis

Most Champaign families call me after something specific — a fall on the steep treads in an Old Town Victorian, a retired professor who hasn't been to the second-floor study since a hip replacement at Carle Foundation Hospital, a daughter in Chicago worried about her parents in a Garden Hills ranch they've owned since the 1960s and aren't leaving.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
