We live in a 1968 home in Hendersonville with 13 hardwood treads from the entry up to the bedrooms. I was crawling up by the end of last winter. How long does a stairlift install take at my house?
A straight-run staircase, which is what I see most often in Cecil's newer subdivisions, is usually a same-day install start to finish. Curved staircases with a landing or a turn take longer because the rail has to be custom-measured and fabricated before we ever get to the house.
Will the install damage my stairs or affect resale?
The rail bolts to the treads or an adjacent wall. It doesn't require cutting into the stringers or altering the structure. With Cecil's housing stock still fairly new (the township's population grew 29.6% from 2010 to 2020, mostly newer builds), that matters more here than in older towns where the stairs themselves need work before a lift can even go in.
What Washington County or state programs actually pay for a stairlift here?

I'm a veteran, does the VA cover a stairlift in Cecil?
The VA's Specially Adapted Housing grants max out at $126,526 (SAH) or $25,350 (SHA) for FY2026 and can go toward a stairlift as part of an approved home modification plan. Are there local grant or loan programs besides the state ones?
The Redevelopment Authority of the County of Washington runs an Access Program funded through CDBG dollars for home accessibility modifications, no published maximum, but it works on a pre-application and waiting list, so call 724-228-6875 well before you need the lift installed. TRPIL, the local Center for Independent Living, can also help coordinate a stairlift as assistive technology if you go through PA's Statewide Independent Living Council at 717-364-1732.
