Straight Stairlift — Burien, WA

Straight Stairlift

Built for Burien's 1950s and 1960s construction — Gregory Heights ranches, Sunnydale townhomes, and Maplewild cottages.

Over 60% of the stairlifts we install in south King County are straight runs. The rail bolts to your stair treads — never to the wall, never to the banister — and the folding seat and footrest tuck flat for full stair use by others. The battery backup runs through Pacific Northwest winter outages. Most Burien installs, from Gregory Heights ranches to Sunnydale townhomes, wrap in under four hours from arrival to first ride.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across King County

King County, WA

From the 1950s ranches of Gregory Heights — where the fir treads are original construction and any installer who proposes touching the banister gets shown the door — to the bluff split-levels of Three Tree Point where a curved rail is the only real option for a staircase that turns at the view landing, our team has worked in every Burien neighborhood. We know which Maplewild cottages have the 31-inch staircase that requires the compact-profile rail, which Seahurst properties need saltwater-grade outdoor equipment because of the marine exposure at bluff elevation, and which Sunnydale and Manhattan homes have the post-2000 construction where straight installs are clean and fast.

We also cover White Center, SeaTac, Normandy Park, and Tukwila, so no south King County family waits on a technician driving from another part of the county.

Gregory Heights 1958 ranch — straight rail on original Douglas fir treads

Gregory Heights, WA Installed March 2026

A 1958 ranch in Gregory Heights with original Douglas fir treads and a Navy veteran who qualified for the VA HISA grant through VA Puget Sound. The rail bolts only into the stair treads — the original fir banister, the knotty-pine paneling, and the painted walls were untouched throughout. The warm hardwood staircase and open treads are visible from the living room, and the beige seat at the bottom landing folds flat when not in use. Mr. Jacobson rode it to the bedroom on installation day and told us it was the first time he hadn't needed his wife's arm on the stairs since his hip surgery.

Three Tree Point split-level — curved rail through 90° view-stair landing turn

Three Tree Point, WA Installed February 2026

A 1965 split-level on the Three Tree Point bluff with a 90-degree landing turn at the view stair. A national chain quoted two separate rails and a mid-landing transfer platform. We laser-scanned the full run on the first visit, fabricated a single continuous curved rail in 12 days, and installed in an afternoon. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the upper landing where the rail curves around the half-wall balustrade, and Mrs. Lindqvist steps off directly onto the hallway floor. The curved rail threads past the original 1965 oak newel post without contact.

Maplewild 1962 cottage — compact-profile straight rail beside vintage sideboard

Maplewild, WA Installed January 2026

A 1962 Maplewild cottage with stone-tile treads and a narrow entryway where the staircase sits next to a wooden sideboard and a potted fern Mrs. Erikson has kept alive since the 1990s. The compact-profile straight rail fits the cozy footprint without crowding the furniture. The brown-upholstered seat at the bottom landing folds flat against the rail, leaving the full width of the hallway clear. Mrs. Erikson is 77 and had been taking the stairs sideways for eight months. She told us afterward she'd been meaning to move to a single-story apartment but didn't want to leave the garden she planted in 1989.

Outdoor

Seahurst bluff entry — marine-grade outdoor rail on stone-paved porch steps

Seahurst, WA Installed December 2025

A Seahurst waterfront home with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mr. Andersen slipped on the stone steps two winters prior and had largely stopped using the front entrance. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat rides from the stone-paved ground level up to the covered porch landing. Every component carries the saltwater specification — IP56-rated motor housing, marine-grade rail coating, 316-stainless fasteners — because the Puget Sound salt mist at Seahurst elevation is constant, not seasonal. The unit ran through the entire winter storm season without a service call.

Sunnydale townhome — straight rail on carpeted stairs matching brown upholstery

Sunnydale, WA Installed November 2025

A Sunnydale townhome where the homeowner was returning from hip replacement surgery at Highline Medical Center. The carpeted stair treads and the brown-upholstered seat blend into the same warm tones, so the lift looks like it belongs in the home rather than a medical addition. The seat parks at the landing next to the wall-mounted light switches, and the tiled floor at the bottom provides solid footing when stepping off. Mr. Nguyen's physical therapist cleared him for upstairs PT sessions the following week, which would not have been possible if he'd been confined to the ground floor.

Platform Lift

Manhattan tri-level — indoor wheelchair platform lift for stroke-recovery patient

Manhattan, WA Installed October 2025

A 2009 tri-level in Burien's Manhattan neighborhood where Mr. Park could not transfer to a seated stairlift following his stroke. The inclined wheelchair platform lift carries his chair from the garage-entry level to the upper bedroom floor without any transfer. The flat black anti-slip platform with high-visibility yellow safety edges rides along the indoor stairway, past the warm-toned walls and window. Mr. Park's physical therapist noted that maintaining access to the full home was critical for his recovery — confinement to one floor was not an acceptable option.

Common Questions

Everything Burien Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Burien right now?

Straight rails in Burien homes — Gregory Heights ranches, Sunnydale townhomes, Maplewild cottages — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, required for Three Tree Point split-levels and other homes with a landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for Seahurst and Three Tree Point bluff entries run $4,000 to $7,500, with marine-grade coating included standard. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and covers installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Is outdoor marine-grade coating included or an extra charge in Burien?

Included — always. Burien sits on the Puget Sound shoreline and the salt air is genuinely corrosive to unprotected metal. National chains price marine-grade coating as a $400 add-on; we include it on every Burien outdoor install because we'll be the ones getting the service call when rust sets in at 18 months. For Seahurst and Three Tree Point bluff properties with constant salt mist, we upgrade to the saltwater-grade coating and IP56 motor housing at no extra cost.

Are there VA or Medicaid funding options in Burien?

Yes — and with Burien's 9.7% veteran population, we process more HISA grants here than in most King County cities. The VA HISA grant covers up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities. The Washington COPES Medicaid waiver can cover the full cost for qualifying residents with no fixed dollar cap. We prefill the VA Form 10-0103 and handle the COPES ALTSA paperwork on your behalf. Most families leave the free assessment knowing exactly what — if anything — they'll pay out of pocket.

Do narrow or unusual staircases cost more to install?

Complex installs — narrow stairways, non-standard geometry, unusual newel post positions — involve more labor and we itemize that clearly in the written quote. There's no assessment fee, no discovery charge, and no surprise line items when the invoice arrives. What you see in the written quote after the home visit is the price you pay.

A word from Luis

Burien doesn't get the attention of the Eastside, but the homes here are interesting — 1950s and 1960s ranchers on wooded lots, split-levels with views toward Puget Sound, and a veteran population that often doesn't know what federal funding they're entitled to. The VA HISA grant is a real option here. I've walked a dozen Burien veterans through it in the past year alone.

My job isn't to sell you a stairlift. It's to figure out whether you need one, what kind works for your stairs, and whether there's a funding path that covers most or all of it. That conversation takes 45 minutes. The quote is free and it's good for 30 days.
