A straight run — which covers most of the split-levels and colonials in Lake Riviera, Laurelton, Baywood, and the two-story homes in Greenbriar I — sits at the lower end of the range. If the stairs have a landing or a turn, you're into a curved rail, which is custom-built to that exact staircase and costs more. A number of the homes on the Ocean Beaches I, II, and III stretch of the Barnegat Peninsula were lifted or rebuilt after Hurricane Sandy in 2012, so we're sometimes installing on or near a raised exterior entry stairway, not just an interior staircase. That's more hardware and more measuring than a standard mainland install, so we quote those in person rather than guessing over the phone.

Yes. The rail bolts to the stair treads, not the wall, so age isn't really a factor. Greenbriar I's homes went up between 1970 and 1978 and are mostly two-story or split-level, which is straightforward work. Greenbriar II's roughly 600 ranch homes are single-story, so those households usually don't need one at all — worth mentioning because we get the call anyway and it's a quick answer.
We handle those, but the approach is a little different. A house that was raised on pilings after Hurricane Sandy often has an exterior stairway up to the main entry in addition to any interior stairs, so we're sometimes fitting exterior-rated rail hardware that can take the weather. No structural changes to the house either way — the rail still mounts to the treads.
Not for Brick specifically. The countywide Ocean County Housing Rehabilitation Program, run through the Affordable Housing Alliance, explicitly excludes Brick, Toms River, Jackson, and Lakewood — those four have their own arrangements instead. Toms River's township program only covers Toms River residents. So Brick households need to look at the countywide senior and nonprofit programs below rather than that CDBG rehab track.
Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity's Home Repair & Aging in Place Program specifically lists Brick among the roughly 20 northern Ocean County towns it serves (732-818-9500 ext. 102), with cost-share based on what a household can afford — no one turned away for inability to pay. It's described as covering "accessibility upgrades" broadly; stairlifts aren't named item by item, so confirm directly. Ocean County's Senior Assisted Social Services (SASS) program (732-349-1500) is another option — a home inspection determines what modifications get funded for residents 60 and older, case by case.
Yes. Jersey Assistance for Community Caregiving (JACC) caps out at $929.88 a month, $11,158.56 a year, for seniors not on Medicaid, and that can go toward home modifications. NJ Medicaid MLTSS covers stairlifts through its HCBS waiver with no fixed dollar cap, tied to an approved Plan of Care. And for veterans, VA HISA benefits go up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities ($2,000 if not service-connected) for structural work, while VA Prosthetics can cover the stairlift itself with no set cap when it's medically prescribed.
