Straight Stairlift

Bestseller

The standard for Bowie’s Belair colonials, Pointer Ridge two-stories, and 1970s Prince George’s split-levels. The overwhelming majority of stairlifts we install in Bowie are straight rails — a clean single run from entry to upper hallway. The rail bolts into your stair treads, never touching the wall or banister, and the seat folds flat so the staircase stays fully usable for everyone else in the house. Sealed motor housings ship as standard on every Prince George’s County install because Maryland’s summer humidity is not optional.

Stairlift Service Across Prince George's County

Prince George's County, MD

From Belair’s 1960s colonials and split-levels with original oak banisters and carpeted treads to Pointer Ridge’s wider modern stair runs off Interstate 301, our team has measured every staircase type Bowie produces. We know which Highbridge homes need a custom curved rail for the tight 90-degree landing, which Foxhill ranches have a half-basement staircase, and which Northridge colonials require our slim-profile mount for narrow stair widths.

We also serve Fairwood, Glenn Dale, Mitchellville, and Crofton — same Prince George’s and Anne Arundel County footprint, no mileage surcharge, same-week availability.

1968 Belair colonial — straight rail on original oak treads

Belair, MD Installed March 2026

A 1968 colonial in the Belair subdivision with 14 original oak treads and a painted-iron spindle banister the family had no intention of touching. Mrs. Patterson had been sleeping on a pull-out sofa in the den for six weeks after hip surgery — the stairs were simply off the table. Her daughter called us on a Wednesday. We drove out Thursday morning, measured the 15-foot run with a laser, confirmed the oak treads could accept mounting hardware cleanly, and installed Friday. The rail parks flat against the wall, and the warm tones of the unfolded seat at the bottom landing complement the dark hardwood staircase.

Pointer Ridge split-level — curved rail through a 90° landing turn

Pointer Ridge, MD Installed February 2026

A 1974 split-level in the Pointer Ridge section with six steps up from the entry, a 90-degree carpeted landing, then nine more steps to the master bedroom. Two other companies quoted two separate lifts. We laser-scanned the full staircase on the first visit, custom-fabricated a single curved rail that bends around the half-wall balustrade at the upper landing, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the top floor so Mr. Washington steps off onto the hallway carpet. His VA provider at the Loch Raven VA wrote the HISA prescription, and the $6,800 grant covered most of the total cost.

Highbridge cottage — straight rail alongside a hallway sideboard

Highbridge, MD Installed January 2026

A compact Highbridge colonial with 13 stone-look tile treads and a tight entry near the hallway sideboard and a potted plant. Mrs. Thompson’s biggest concern was fitting the lift into a traditional space without it dominating the foyer. We mounted the straight rail on the tile treads, positioned the brown-upholstered seat to park at the bottom next to the wooden cabinet, and specified the swivel-exit seat at the upper landing so she stands on the hallway floor. The cozy cottage feel of the stairway stayed intact.

Somerset raised porch — outdoor stairlift on stone-paved entry steps

Somerset, MD Installed December 2025

A 1990s Somerset home with a raised front porch and rough natural stone paving at the entry. Mr. Okafor had been entering through the garage for months because the front porch steps were too steep after knee surgery. We mounted the weather-resistant cream seat on outdoor-rated hardware anchored into the stone-paved landing, sealed the motor housing against Maryland’s summer humidity and winter freeze cycles, and added a lockable key switch at the lower landing. He walked out his own front door on install day for the first time in four months.

Northridge rancher — compact lift on carpeted basement stairs

Northridge, MD Installed November 2025

A 1978 Northridge rancher with a carpeted basement staircase and a landing area at the bottom with tile flooring. The stair width was 34 inches, on the narrow side. We fitted the slimmest rail in our catalog on the carpet-covered treads, with the brown-upholstered seat matching the carpet tones. The folding footrest tucks completely to the side when parked so her grandchildren can still pass freely on the stairs. The Community First Choice Supports Planner approved the modification within 30 days of the initial Maryland Access Point call.

Platform Lift

Foxhill split-entry — indoor wheelchair platform lift for daily access

Foxhill, MD Installed October 2025

The Bradleys’ daughter uses a power wheelchair and the split-entry layout put the main floor seven steps above the lower level. A seated stairlift was not an option — she cannot transfer out of her chair. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift in the indoor stairway with a flat black anti-slip deck, high-visibility yellow safety edges, and a white handrail. The terracotta-painted walls and natural light from the stairway window made the installation blend into the home’s existing interior. Three months in, not a single service call.

Common Questions

Everything Bowie Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Bowie, MD right now?

Straight rails in most Bowie homes — the Belair colonials, Pointer Ridge two-stories, and Highbridge split-levels — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for split-level landings with a 90-degree turn run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is custom-fabricated to your staircase geometry. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit. No surprise line items.

Does the price change based on my neighborhood in Prince George’s County?

Equipment prices are consistent across Bowie, Glenn Dale, Mitchellville, and the surrounding area — we don’t apply location premiums. What occasionally varies is labor: pre-1970 homes in older Belair sections sometimes have stair treads that need extra mounting hardware, and homes with hardwood over plywood subfloor require a different anchor technique. We identify these during the free assessment and show you the line items before you sign anything.

Can I finance a stairlift if I don’t qualify for Maryland grants?

Yes — we work with three lending partners. Plans start at $79/month for qualified buyers, applications are a soft credit pull (no score impact), and approval takes about four minutes. Many Bowie families combine financing with the IRS medical expense deduction: if a licensed Maryland physician documents the stairlift as medically necessary, the full installation cost qualifies as a Schedule A deduction — typically $600 to $2,400 back depending on your bracket.

How does the cost compare to alternatives like moving or assisted living?

A straight stairlift in Bowie runs $2,800 to $5,500 one time. A private room at a Prince George’s County assisted living facility averages $4,800 per month — over $57,000 per year. Moving to a single-story home in the Bowie area means $50,000 or more in transaction costs plus leaving the neighborhood you know. A stairlift keeps you in your home, in your community, at a fraction of any alternative.

A word from Luis

The homes I measure most often in Bowie are the 1970s Belair ranches and split-levels off Route 197 — houses that were built for young families moving out from D.C. and are now occupied by the same couple who bought them 45 years ago. The staircase they ran up and down without a thought in 1979 is now the thing keeping them from sleeping in their own bedroom.

My job is straightforward: show up within 24 hours, measure accurately, and give you a written quote that’s honored for 30 days — no pressure, no upsells, no ‘limited time’ tactics. We also work directly with Maryland Access Point on CFC assessments and prefill VA Form 10-0103 for veterans at nearby Joint Base Andrews.
