Stairlift Service Across Monroe County

Monroe County, IN

From the 1920s Tudors and Colonial Revivals of Elm Heights — where curved rails must thread past original oak banisters and barley-twist spindles — to the pre-code steep narrow staircases of Prospect Hill's Queen Annes and Folk Victorians, our team has measured every configuration Bloomington produces. Bryan Park Foursquares and Craftsman bungalows are standard straight runs on oak treads. Maple Heights offers tighter stairwells in smaller Craftsman stock. McDoel Gardens front-porch houses often need outdoor lifts more than interior ones. Beyond city limits, Ellettsville split-levels and rural Monroe County hillside homes with 10-step limestone climbs from driveway to door round out the market. No travel fees anywhere in Monroe County.

Straight

Elm Heights Tudor — straight rail on dark oak treads to the second floor

Elm Heights, IN Installed March 2026

A 1928 Tudor Revival in the Elm Heights Historic District with dark hardwood open-tread stairs and an original oak banister. Mrs. Morrison's daughter called after her mother stopped using the second floor entirely. We bolted a straight rail to the right side of the oak treads — never into the wall, never touching the banister — and parked the beige seat at the bottom landing. The warm wood tones of the staircase stayed exactly as they were. Three and a half hours on-site, cold-weather LiFePO4 battery installed standard.

Bryan Park Foursquare — curved rail around the upper landing turn

Bryan Park, IN Installed February 2026

A 1918 American Foursquare facing Bryan Park with a staircase that turns 90 degrees at the upper landing around a half-wall balustrade. Mr. Horstmann, 79, a retired IU librarian, had been sleeping downstairs for six weeks after hip surgery at IU Health. We laser-scanned the staircase on the first visit, fabricated a single curved rail that bends around the upper landing, and installed a swivel-exit seat so he steps off directly onto the upstairs hallway. The chair parks flush at the top floor, out of the walkway. One ride, zero transfers.

Prospect Hill cottage — straight rail on stone treads in a compact stairwell

Prospect Hill, IN Installed January 2026

An 1896 cottage in the Prospect Hill Historic District with stone-accented treads, a wooden sideboard at the base of the stairs, and a potted plant on the landing. The stairwell is compact — under 34 inches wide — so we specified the slim-profile seat that folds flat against the wall. The straight rail bolts into the stone treads with masonry anchors, and the brown-upholstered seat matches the warm, traditional character of the home. Mrs. Calloway's neighbor called us the following month for a quote on her own staircase.

Rural Monroe County — outdoor lift on stone-paved entry steps

South Monroe County, IN Installed December 2025

A ranch home on a hillside lot south of Bloomington with stone-paved entry steps from the driveway up to a covered front porch. Mr. Underwood, a retired Crane Naval Surface Warfare Center engineer, qualified for the full $6,800 VA HISA grant through the Bloomington VA Clinic. The cream-colored weather-resistant seat rides a straight outdoor rail anchored into the stone paving with masonry fasteners rated for Indiana's freeze-thaw cycle. Every component is sealed against humidity, and the cold-weather LiFePO4 battery keeps the lift running through sub-zero polar-vortex nights.

Ellettsville split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs to the main floor

Ellettsville, IN Installed November 2025

A 1972 split-level in Ellettsville with carpeted stairs from the entry up to the main living level. Mrs. Phelps, 76, had been managing the six steps by gripping the wall with both hands after a fall in September. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The brown-upholstered seat blends with the carpet tones, and the chair parks at the landing where the tiled floor meets the carpeted steps. Three hours on-site, cold-weather battery standard.

Platform Lift

Maple Heights — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Maple Heights, IN Installed October 2025

A 1912 Craftsman bungalow in Maple Heights where Mr. Dietrich, 82, uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke. A seated stairlift was never an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift with a flat black anti-slip surface and yellow high-visibility safety edges along the platform thresholds. The indoor stairway has warm orange-terracotta walls and a window at the mid-landing. Mr. Dietrich rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and exits on the upper floor without ever leaving his wheelchair.

Common Questions

Everything Bloomington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Bloomington right now?

Straight rails inside a Bryan Park Foursquare, an Elm Heights Tudor with a clean straight run, or a newer Ellettsville subdivision home run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails — common in Elm Heights homes with a half-landing turn, Prospect Hill Victorians with steep narrow stairs, and Ellettsville split-levels — run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts on raised limestone porches in Bryan Park and Maple Heights, and long hillside runs in rural Monroe County, run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different for Elm Heights or Prospect Hill historic district homes?

Equipment prices are identical across every Bloomington ZIP and throughout Monroe County. We do not charge a premium for historic district addresses. What varies is labor for unusual conditions — threading a curved rail past an 1890s Queen Anne banister in Prospect Hill, custom bracket spacing on pre-code treads, or anchoring an outdoor rail into original limestone steps that have freeze-thaw surface damage. Every line item appears on the written quote before you sign.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Our installer Luis conducts home assessments in Spanish on request at zero surcharge. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is available in Spanish. Zero extra charge, same service.

My home has a walkout basement on a hillside lot. Is that more expensive than a standard interior install?

Not necessarily for the equipment — it depends on the run length and whether the stairs turn. Hillside walkout basements are common throughout Monroe County and the Brown County edge, especially outside city limits. What occasionally adds labor is anchoring into limestone or concrete on an exterior approach where freeze-thaw cycling has damaged the tread surface. We tell you during the free assessment, not after.

A word from Luis

Most Bloomington families call me after a quiet conversation that's been avoided for months — a retired IU professor who stopped going upstairs in the Elm Heights house she's lived in since 1978, a father in Bryan Park whose hip hasn't been right since the surgery at IU Health but won't say so, a grown child in Indianapolis who drove down for homecoming weekend and realized the second floor had been abandoned.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, laser-measure the stairs once, and leave you with a written quote honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
