Stairlift Service Across Middlesex County

Middlesex County, MA

From the colonials along Great Road with their formal center-hall staircases and original hardwood treads to the garrison colonials near the town center on Springs Road with second-floor overhangs and narrow back stairs, our team has measured every part of Bedford. We know which Route 4/225 corridor split-levels have the double-landing configuration needing a single curved rail, which south-side ranches near the Lexington line have the short half-flight between garage and living area, which Hanscom-area homes near Virginia Road need slim-profile rails for 33-inch hallway stairs, and which Page Road estates have wide formal staircases that install in under three hours. We also serve Lexington, Concord, Burlington, Billerica, Lincoln, and Carlisle.

Straight

Great Road colonial — straight rail on original 1960s oak hardwood treads

Great Road, MA Installed March 2026

A 1964 colonial on Great Road with a formal center-hall staircase, original red-oak treads, and a turned-spindle balustrade. Mrs. Donovan is 87 and has lived here since 1969. Her daughter in Lexington had been driving over every morning to help her mother down the stairs to the kitchen. Mrs. Donovan’s one condition: no marks on the spindles or the wallpaper. We bolted the rail into the tread wood only — never a spindle, never the wall. The rail finish matches the red oak, the seat folds flat against the wall at the upper landing, and the staircase looks exactly as it always has.

Town center garrison colonial — curved rail around 90-degree back-stair turn

Town Center, MA Installed February 2026

A 1958 garrison colonial near Springs Road where Mrs. Perkins, 82, lives on the main level and her daughter’s family occupies the upstairs bedrooms when visiting. The back staircase runs eight steps from the kitchen, hits a 90-degree landing, and climbs four more steps to the upstairs hallway. The passage is 33 inches wide at its narrowest. We laser-scanned the full staircase, fabricated a single curved rail with a slim-profile track, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the upper landing. The folded seat clears 12 inches from the wall, leaving 21 inches of walkable width.

Straight

South Side ranch — compact straight rail on four-step garage-to-kitchen rise

South Side, MA Installed January 2026

A 1971 ranch near the Lexington line with a four-step rise between the attached garage and the main kitchen level. Mrs. Klein is 81 and had her knee replaced at Lahey Hospital in Burlington. Her surgeon cleared her for daily activity but prohibited unassisted stairs for eight weeks. We bolted a compact straight rail into the wood treads, ran the power cord to the existing garage outlet, and left the adjacent storage shelving untouched. The compact seat folds flat when not in use, keeping the narrow passage clear.

Outdoor

Route 4 corridor — weather-sealed outdoor lift on stone entry steps

Route 4 corridor, MA Installed December 2025

A 1966 raised ranch along the Route 4 corridor with six exterior bluestone steps and no covered entry. Mr. Morrison, 80, uses a rolling walker and had not left the house without his son’s help since a fall on the icy front steps the previous January. We drilled stainless-steel masonry anchors into the bluestone treads, sealed the motor housing to IP55 against New England rain, ice, and road salt, and applied the cold-weather rail coating standard on every Massachusetts outdoor install. The lift ran through the winter of 2025–2026 without a single service call.

Lexington line split-level — straight rail on carpeted stairs post-surgery

Lexington line, MA Installed November 2025

A 1969 split-level near the Lexington line with a carpeted interior staircase connecting the lower den to the main living level. Wide treads, standard construction, and a clean 12-step straight run. Mr. Sullivan had a total back surgery at Lahey Hospital and his surgeon told him no stairs for ten weeks. We bolted the rail through the carpet and pad directly into the plywood subfloor — the carpet lies flat around the brackets with no bunching or trip hazard. The brown upholstered seat matches the carpet tones.

Platform Lift

Page Road area — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Page Road area, MA Installed October 2025

A 1973 colonial near Page Road where Mr. Russell, 77, uses a power wheelchair after a stroke left him with limited mobility on his left side. The five-step rise between the sunken family room and the kitchen was the barrier — he could not transfer out of his chair for a seated stairlift. We installed an indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift adjacent to the step-up, against the existing wall. The flat black anti-slip platform has high-visibility yellow safety edges on all sides, a white handrail, and an automatic gate that locks during travel. Mr. Russell rolls on in the family room, presses one button, and rolls off at kitchen level.

Common Questions

Everything Bedford Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Bedford, MA right now?

Straight rails in standard Bedford homes — the colonials along Great Road, the garrison colonials near the town center, the split-levels along the Route 4/225 corridor — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for garrison colonial back-stair turns and split-level double landings run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor lifts with cold-weather coating for New England winters run $4,200 to $7,800. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Bedford than in Lexington or Concord?

Equipment prices are identical across the Route 4/225 corridor and throughout Middlesex County. We do not inflate quotes for Page Road estates or discount them for split-levels near the Billerica line. What can vary slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: compensating rail brackets in pre-war colonials where settling has left treads uneven, running a dedicated outlet to a stairwell that shares a circuit, or specifying the slim-profile rail for narrow 33-inch back stairs in garrison colonials. We itemize everything upfront.

Is a stairlift cheaper than downsizing in Bedford?

Significantly. Bedford’s median home price exceeds $700,000. Between realtor commissions, closing costs, moving expenses, and the emotional cost of leaving a home your family has lived in for decades, downsizing runs $50,000 to $90,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installed and warrantied costs under $5,500. A curved rail for the most complex staircase in Bedford costs under $15,000. The math is not close.

Do Hanscom Air Force Base families get a military discount?

We do not mark up or mark down based on affiliation. What we do for every Hanscom family is prefill the VA HISA grant paperwork — up to $6,800 for service-connected disabilities — and coordinate directly with the VA Boston Healthcare System or the Bedford VA campus so the prescription and reimbursement move as fast as possible. Active-duty families with TRICARE can also use our 0% APR financing. We have installed in dozens of homes near Hanscom and understand the base housing transition timeline.

A word from Luis

Bedford families call me after the same thing — a retired engineer from Hanscom whose knees can no longer manage the garrison colonial’s center-hall staircase, or an 85-year-old widow on Great Road whose children in Lexington worry about her alone in the house she’s owned since 1971, or a daughter in Burlington who found her father gripping both handrails on the split-level stairs he used to take two at a time. I drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a written price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. If you’re a veteran or active-duty family at Hanscom, I prefill your HISA paperwork before I leave.
