Stairlift Service Across Blair County

Blair County, PA

From the brick row houses along 6th Avenue in Altoona's historic core — narrow railroad-era staircases with original hardwood treads worn smooth from a century of use — to post-war ranches and cape cods in Pleasant Valley and Fairview with finished basements and 36-inch stairwells, our crew has measured every Altoona housing type. Juniata hillside homes have exterior steps that freeze solid November through March. Eldorado's 1950s split-levels need curved rails for half-landing turns. Logan Township's larger lots hold two-stories with wider treads. Mansion Park and Calvert Hills hold older two-stories with narrower stairwells that demand slim-profile rails.

1920s row house on 6th Avenue — straight rail on original hardwood treads

6th Avenue, PA Installed March 2026

A 1920s brick row house on 6th Avenue in Altoona's historic core, with 14 original hardwood treads worn smooth from a century of use. Mrs. DiAngelo had been sleeping on the living-room sofa for three weeks after a fall. We laser-measured the 13-foot run, bolted the slim-profile rail directly into the oak treads, and parked the cream-upholstered seat at the bottom landing. She slept in her own bed that night.

1955 Eldorado split-level — curved rail through half-landing turn

Eldorado, PA Installed February 2026

A 1955 split-level in Eldorado with six steps from the front entry to a half-landing, then eight more to the bedrooms. Mr. Morrison retired from the railroad in 1998. We laser-scanned the full run, custom-bent one curved rail in 11 days, and parked the brown-upholstered seat at the upper landing under the chandelier in the entryway. The swivel-exit seat at the top sets him onto the upper hallway floor without balancing on the top tread.

Calvert Hills 1920s cottage — short rail on tile treads next to the wooden sideboard

Calvert Hills, PA Installed January 2026

A 1920s brick cottage in Calvert Hills with a tight 32-inch stairwell and light-stone tile treads going up to the second floor. The brown-upholstered seat parks at the bottom landing right beside the wooden sideboard where Mrs. Albright keeps photos of her grandchildren. The narrow stair geometry meant we ran the slim-profile rail tight to the wall — folded, the seat takes up just 11 inches, leaving room for her son to carry groceries past it on weekend visits from State College.

Juniata hillside home — outdoor lift on stone front-porch entry

Juniata, PA Installed December 2025

A hillside home in Juniata with eight rough flagstone front steps that ice over solid from November through March. Mr. Becker is a retired veteran with a service-connected back injury. We installed a cream-upholstered outdoor lift with freeze-rated lubricant, de-icing rail coatings, and an IP55-sealed motor housing. The James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center on Pleasant Valley Boulevard wrote the HISA prescription, and the $6,800 grant covered most of the install.

Fairview ranch — straight rail on carpeted basement stairs, same-week install

Fairview, PA Installed November 2025

A 1970s ranch in Fairview with carpeted stairs to the finished basement and a standard 36-inch staircase. The brown-upholstered seat matches the warm tan carpet pile, blending into the stairway rather than standing out. The rail bolts through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage. Mrs. Hoover's daughter called Tuesday from State College, we measured Tuesday afternoon, and the crew installed Thursday morning. The seat folds flat and the grandkids run past it without noticing.

Platform Lift

Mansion Park home — inclined wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges

Mansion Park, PA Installed October 2025

A two-story home in Mansion Park. Mr. Chambers is a disabled veteran who uses a power wheelchair full-time. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: flat black anti-slip deck, yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrail. The HISA grant covered the $6,800 service-connected maximum and his Community HealthChoices plan through AmeriHealth Caritas covered the balance.

Common Questions

Everything Altoona Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in Altoona, PA?

Straight rails in standard Altoona homes — the row houses along 6th Avenue, the cape cods in Pleasant Valley, the ranches with finished basements in Fairview — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Eldorado split-level landing turns and L-shaped basement stairs run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is fabricated to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised porches and Juniata hillside entry steps run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes the rail, seat, battery backup, installation, and first service visit.

Are Altoona prices different from Harrisburg or Pittsburgh?

Equipment prices are the same across Pennsylvania — we do not inflate or discount based on metro size. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow pre-war treads in the 6th Avenue row houses, split-level landing fabrication in Eldorado, and the freeze-rated lubricant and weather sealing we spec as standard on every Blair County install. Those are baseline, not upcharges. Every line item appears on the written quote.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story home?

Moving costs in Blair County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, deposit on a new place — run $12,000 to $25,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home your family has lived in for decades, close to UPMC Altoona, your pharmacy, and the neighbors who already check in on you. For most Altoona families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing for Altoona homeowners?

Yes. We offer 12-month interest-free financing and extended terms up to 60 months starting at $79 per month for a standard straight install. Approval takes minutes during the in-home visit. We also help you stack financing with VA HISA grants, Pennsylvania's Community HealthChoices waiver, and Blair Senior Services referrals so you pay the lowest possible out-of-pocket.

A word from Luis

Most Altoona families call after something has already happened — a slip on the basement stairs in a Pleasant Valley cape cod, a grandfather who hasn't been upstairs since hip surgery at UPMC Altoona, a daughter in State College worried about her parents in the brick row house they've owned since the railroad days.

What I do is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, laser-measure the staircase, and hand you a written quote good for 30 days. If you're VA-eligible, I prefill HISA Form 10-0103 at the kitchen table before I leave. No pressure, no upsells.
