Stairlift Service Across Thurston County

Thurston County, WA

Yelm's housing stock ranges from 1920s farmhouses to 2010s two-story builds — a railroad-and-prairie town that became a JBLM commuter hub. Cherry Meadows and Shelm Meadows are newer subdivisions where two-story plans mean 14- to 16-step straight staircases off the entry — standard install territory. Clearwood, the gated community near Clear Lake, has larger custom homes where curved rails come up on landing turns and split-level layouts. Crystal Creek Estates homes often have tile or LVP treads and open-concept stairs off the great room. Out on Bald Hills Road near Deschutes Falls, older ramblers and farmhouses on acreage have narrower stairwells — nothing that trips up a straight-rail install.

Straight

Straight Rail on Oak Treads in Cherry Meadows

Cherry Meadows, WA Installed February 2026

Cherry Meadows two-story built in 2018. Dark oak treads rising from the entry foyer — 14 steps, dead straight. The Morrisons needed a lift for their grandmother who moved in after a hip surgery. Cream upholstery seat parked at the bottom landing. Rail bolted to the treads in three hours with no wall drilling. The fold-up seat leaves the staircase open for the rest of the family.

Curved

Curved Rail Around a Half-Wall in Clearwood

Clearwood, WA Installed March 2026

Clearwood gated-community custom home with a 90° turn at the upper landing. The staircase wraps a half-wall beneath a chandelier. Brown upholstery seat parks at the top floor. Laser-measured on site, rail custom-bent offsite to match the exact turn radius. Installed in one day — no wall anchors needed, the rail follows the treads through the curve. The Henderson family had been carrying their father upstairs for six months before Luis came out.

Compact Straight Lift on Tile Treads in Crystal Creek Estates

Crystal Creek Estates, WA Installed January 2026

Crystal Creek Estates contemporary built in 2020. Stone-look porcelain tile treads, open staircase off the great room. Brown upholstery seat parked at the bottom landing beside a wooden sideboard. The compact floorplan meant the fold-up rail option was critical — when not in use the rail tucks tight against the wall and the walkway stays clear. Brackets bolted through the tile into the tread substrate.

Bald Hills, WA Installed April 2026

Bald Hills Road acreage property — 1940s farmhouse with a stone-paved exterior porch. Six steps up from the driveway to the front door. Cream outdoor seat, IP55-rated rail, marine-grade vinyl upholstery. The Carters' father had stopped leaving the house because the porch steps were too steep. Now he sits on the porch every morning. Rail is weather-sealed for Pacific Northwest rain and rated to 14°F.

Carpeted Straight Lift in a Redwood Estates Two-Story

Redwood Estates, WA Installed November 2025

Redwood Estates 1990s two-story with wall-to-wall beige carpet on the stairs. Brown upholstery seat matched the carpet tone nearly exactly — a detail the Petersons appreciated. 15 steps, straight run, tiled floor at the base landing. Rail brackets bolted through the carpet to the treads underneath. No subfloor work, no carpet damage beyond the bolt holes, which are invisible once the brackets are removed.

Indoor Wheelchair Platform in a Shelm Meadows New Build

Shelm Meadows, WA Installed March 2026

Shelm Meadows brand-new construction, 2025 build. The Brooks' son uses a wheelchair full-time. Inclined platform lift installed on the interior staircase — flat black deck, yellow safety edges, white handrail, 600 lb capacity. The platform folds up vertically when not in use so other family members use the stairs normally. No structural changes to the new home — the rail bolts to the treads like any stairlift.

Common Questions

Everything Yelm Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a straight stairlift cost in Yelm?

A straight stairlift in Yelm starts at $2,800 installed. That covers the rail, the seat, the battery backup, and about three hours of labor. Most straight installs in neighborhoods like Cherry Meadows and Redwood Estates fall between $2,800 and $3,500 depending on rail length — a 14-foot rail costs less than an 18-footer. The price you're quoted at the assessment is the price you pay — no surprise add-ons.

How much does a curved stairlift cost in Yelm?

Curved stairlifts start at $9,000 in Yelm. The final price depends on how many turns your staircase has and whether there's an intermediate landing. A single 90° turn at the top landing — common in the custom homes out in Clearwood — keeps things at the lower end. Two turns or a mid-stair landing push it toward $12,000. Every curved rail is laser-measured on site and custom-bent offsite, then installed in one day.

Does Medicare or private insurance cover a stairlift in Yelm?

Original Medicare does not cover stairlifts — they're classified as home modifications, not durable medical equipment. Some Medicare Advantage plans include a home-safety allowance that may offset part of the cost. Private insurance rarely covers stairlifts directly, but a few long-term-care policies reimburse for home-accessibility equipment. The most reliable funding in Yelm comes through the VA HISA grant for veterans and Washington's COPES Medicaid waiver for income-qualified seniors.

Can I finance a stairlift in Yelm?

Yes — financing starts at $79/month through our third-party partner. Most Yelm customers qualify for same-as-cash terms on 12-month plans. The application takes about 10 minutes and you'll know before the install whether you're approved. You can combine financing with a VA HISA grant or COPES waiver coverage to bring the out-of-pocket portion down further.

A word from Luis

I've put stairlifts into just about every kind of home Yelm has — the new builds in Cherry Meadows where the stairs are dead straight and we're done in three hours, the big custom places out in Clearwood where the curved rail has to wrap a 90-degree landing turn, and the old farmhouses off Bald Hills Road where the stairwell is 32 inches wide and we still make it work. The military families moving in from JBLM bring a different set of questions — a lot of them are using the HISA grant, and I walk them through it start to finish.

The one thing that catches people off guard around here is how wet it gets. Outdoor lifts need the weather sealing done right — not just a tarp thrown over it. I've done outdoor installs on those stone-paved porches out toward Deschutes Falls where the lift sits in rain eight months a year and runs fine because the rail is IP55-rated and the seat is marine-grade vinyl. That's the kind of detail that matters in the Nisqually Valley.

— Luis Ramírez, Yelm
Your Next Step

Ready to get started? It's simple.

Yelm sits where the prairie meets the Nisqually Valley — 20 miles southeast of Olympia, with Mount Rainier filling the eastern sky. The town has grown fast over the past two decades as JBLM families and Thurston County transplants discovered that you get more house and more land here than in Lacey or Tacoma. That growth means a wide mix of stair configurations, from the original 1920s farmhouses along the Yelm-Tenino corridor to the brand-new two-story plans in Shelm Meadows.

If you're trying to figure out whether a stairlift fits your home — and your budget — the fastest way to get real answers is to have someone walk your actual stairs. Luis does free assessments across Yelm, Rainier, McKenna, and the surrounding Thurston County communities. He'll measure your treads, check the landing clearance, and give you a firm price before you commit to anything.
