Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of Wilmington's brick row houses — from Forty Acres to Cool Spring to the East Side.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install across Wilmington are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the battery backup keeps you moving through the next nor'easter power outage. We bring the compact-profile option to every Wilmington row house assessment because the odds are better than even that you'll need it — the 14-to-16-foot-wide lots in Forty Acres, Cool Spring, and the East Side produce stairwells that won't accommodate a full-width rail.

Starting at $2,850 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Stairlift Service Across New Castle County

New Castle County, DE

From the 1860s streetcar-era row houses of Forty Acres — where Irish-heritage brick rows along Scott and Van Buren Streets have steep interior stairs and narrow stairwells — to the turn-of-the-century twins in Trolley Square with the widest residential stairs in the city, our team has mapped every pocket of Wilmington. We know which Quaker Hill blocks require DRPC review for exterior accessibility work. We know the Cool Spring and Tilton Park rows where interior stair pitch exceeds 40 degrees. We know the Brandywine Village twins along North Market Street where no two staircase geometries are alike. And we cover Wawaset Park, the East Side, Hilltop, plus Elsmere, Newport, Greenville, and Wilmington Manor across New Castle County.

1890s Forty Acres brick row — compact rail in a 28-inch stairwell

Forty Acres, DE Installed March 2026

An 1890s Forty Acres brick row house with a 28-inch interior stairwell — typical of the Irish-heritage homes on Scott Street where lots are 14 feet wide and stairs reflect that footprint. Two companies told the Burke family it couldn't be done. We installed a compact-profile straight rail flush against the wall with a folding seat and footrest that tuck flat, leaving enough clear width for other household members to pass. The beige seat blends with the original plaster walls. Mrs. Burke had been sleeping on the first-floor couch for five months. She was back in her own bedroom that evening.

Wawaset Park colonial — slim-profile rail color-matched to walnut

Wawaset Park, DE Installed February 2026

A Wawaset Park colonial with a graceful curved staircase and original walnut banister the Giordano family has maintained for decades. The staircase has a sweeping 90-degree turn at the upper landing that ruled out any standard straight rail. We laser-scanned the full geometry on the first visit, confirmed the curved rail would clear the banister post without alteration, and fabricated a custom rail color-matched to the walnut tone. The slim-profile seat parks at the upper landing where the rail follows the curve. Mrs. Giordano told us two other companies said the staircase was too ornate to fit a lift. It took us ten days to fabricate and one afternoon to install.

Brandywine Village twin — straight rail on original hardwood past a narrow landing

Brandywine Village, DE Installed January 2026

A Brandywine Village twin along North Market Street where the 18th-century mill-worker's home has been renovated enough times that the staircase sits at an unusual pitch. Despite the quirks, the run from ground floor to the upper bedroom is a single straight flight — no turns, no landings. We bolted a straight rail into the original hardwood treads using clean-bore brackets, matched the rail finish to the warm oak color, and completed the install in a single morning. The compact seat profile leaves passable width in the narrow stairwell. Mrs. Okafor's physical therapist visited the following week and said the rail was exactly what she would have prescribed.

East Side row house — weather-sealed outdoor rail on raised concrete entry

East Side, DE Installed December 2025

An East Side row house with seven raised concrete entry steps between the sidewalk and the front door. Mr. Santiago had been using the rear alley entrance for over a year after a fall on the front steps following his double knee replacement surgery at Christiana Hospital. We mounted a weather-sealed outdoor rail on the concrete steps with stainless anchors, sealed the motor housing to IP54 for Delaware's freeze-thaw cycles and coastal humidity, and fitted a cream UV-resistant seat that blends with the home's brick exterior. The rail survived a full Delaware winter without issue. Mr. Santiago uses his own front door again.

Cool Spring Italianate — compact rail preserving 1895 newel post

Cool Spring, DE Installed November 2025

A Cool Spring Italianate where the 1895 carved newel post and turned spindles are the architectural centerpiece of the front hall. The Calloway family was explicit: nothing touches the newel post. We installed a compact-profile straight rail that bolts into the stair treads only, keeping the full newel post, spindles, and original plaster completely untouched. The stair pitch exceeds 40 degrees — typical of Cool Spring's Victorian-era homes — but the rail handles it without issue. The seat folds flat and clears enough width for Mrs. Calloway's grandson to walk the stairs beside the rail.

Platform Lift

Trolley Square three-story — indoor inclined wheelchair platform lift

Trolley Square, DE Installed October 2025

A Trolley Square three-story twin where Mr. Pham's mother uses a power wheelchair full-time and cannot transfer to a seated stairlift. The wide interior stairway — one of the widest in Wilmington's row house stock — provided enough clearance for an inclined wheelchair platform lift. We installed a flat black anti-slip platform deck with yellow high-visibility safety edges on all sides and a white handrail along the wall. The platform carries the wheelchair and rider between the ground floor and the main living level without any transfer required. Three companies had told the family that a wheelchair user could not live in a Wilmington row house. The platform lift proved them wrong.

Common Questions

Everything Wilmington Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Wilmington right now?

Straight rails inside a standard Wilmington row house — the two- and three-story brick rows in Trolley Square, Forty Acres, Cool Spring, and the East Side — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for the tight upper-landing turns in Brandywine Village twins and Quaker Hill Victorians run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor stoop lifts for raised concrete entries run $4,000 to $7,500 with freeze-thaw and humidity sealing. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices different in Greenville or Wawaset Park than the rest of Wilmington?

Equipment prices are the same across New Castle County — we don't inflate quotes for Greenville addresses or Wawaset Park lots. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: compact-profile rail in a 26-inch Cool Spring stairwell, DRPC paperwork for a Quaker Hill contributing structure, or running a dedicated 120V circuit in a pre-1920 East Side row house where the original knob-and-tube is still live. We tell you the line items upfront. No zip-code surcharges.

Do you charge extra for Spanish-language service?

No. Every Wilmington assessment can be conducted in Spanish at your request — Luis is bilingual and has walked families across New Castle County through every line of the paperwork in their preferred language. Every printed quote, consent form, and operating manual is also available in Spanish. Zero surcharge.

Any hidden fees for HOA or condo installs in newer developments?

Our quote includes the HOA paperwork we handle for you. We've worked with the newer townhouse and condo associations along the Riverfront, in Pike Creek, and in the Hockessin corridor — the reasonable-accommodation letters under the federal Fair Housing Act and Delaware's Fair Housing Act are already templated. What can add cost (rarely) is when a board requires its own engineer's letter or ARB submission. If that happens, we tell you before we start — not after.

A word from Luis

Most Wilmington families call me after the row house stairs have already won the argument — a stumble on the steep treads in a Forty Acres two-story, a father in Trolley Square who hasn't slept upstairs since his hip surgery, a daughter in Philadelphia worried about her mother alone in a three-story Quaker Hill brick row.

My job is simple: get to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
