Stairlift Service Across Rensselaer County

Rensselaer County, NY

In Federal Hill and the Hill District, the staircases are the house — Victorian turned banisters, original plaster stair walls, treads that predate any building code. We’ve preserved original millwork in all of them. In North Central’s postwar two-family blocks north of Congress Street, the challenge is the divided-entry staircase: two households, one stair run, a rail that works for both. Downtown Troy’s Monument Square area has seen residential conversion of former commercial buildings — loft-style units with open stairs and metal railings where a stairlift mount requires custom hardware. We also serve Watervliet, Cohoes, Wynantskill, and Latham.

1878 Federal Hill rowhouse — original banister preserved, rail fitted to narrow tread

Federal Hill, NY Installed March 2026

An 1878 Federal-style rowhouse on one of Federal Hill’s original blocks, with a 30-inch staircase width and a turned banister the family considered structurally and historically significant. We rerouted the rail bracket to clear the banister post entirely, wrapped the adjacent millwork in protective foam during the install, and fitted our slimmest profile rail to the narrow tread width. Mrs. Kowalczyk had specifically told three prior companies ‘no’ after they quoted modifications to the banister. We didn’t touch it.

Converted loft near Monument Square — curved rail through a 90° open-tread metal stair

Downtown Troy, NY Installed February 2026

A former commercial building near Monument Square, converted to residential lofts in 2018, with open-tread metal stairs that turn 90 degrees at a mid-landing before reaching the upper floor. The floating metal railing and open risers ruled out a conventional straight-rail mount. We laser-scanned the full geometry on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that threads through the 90-degree turn and mounts to the concrete subfloor alongside each tread rather than into the tread itself, and installed in a single day. Mr. Okonkwo had been told by one company the stairs ‘weren’t compatible with any stairlift.’ They were.

Victorian Hill District rowhome — straight rail on narrow 1890s treads

Hill District, NY Installed January 2026

A Victorian-era rowhome in the Hill District with original narrow treads and heavy plaster walls — the kind of staircase where every inch counts. The Hoffmanns’ mother, 87, had been living on the ground floor for three weeks because the stairs felt unsafe after a fall. We fitted the compact-profile rail along the wall side, added the folding footrest for maximum passing clearance, and wrapped the plaster corners in padding during install. The rail parks flush against the wall at the bottom. She slept upstairs that night for the first time in a month.

North Central raised porch — outdoor rail on concrete entry steps, cold-weather sealed

North Central, NY Installed December 2025

A postwar home in North Central Troy with a raised front porch and seven concrete entry steps that ice over every winter from November through March. Mrs. Rivera had fallen twice on those steps before calling us. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor rail with the cold-weather battery rated to -20°F, IP55-sealed motor housing, and stainless mounting hardware rated for upstate freeze-thaw cycling. The salt-resistant finish handles the calcium chloride her neighbor spreads on the shared walkway. She uses the lift from October through April and walks the steps the rest of the year.

Small 1920s Cape on the Troy–Wynantskill border — compact profile, tight newel clearance

South Troy, NY Installed November 2025

A 1920s Cape Cod on the South Troy border with a 31-inch stair width and a heavily turned newel post at the bottom landing that left almost no room for a standard rail bracket. We fitted the compact-profile rail with a swiveling bracket mount that clears the newel post by a half-inch, folding footrest for maximum clearance at the base, and cold-weather battery spec for the exposed south-facing stair wall. Mr. Battaglia’s daughter, who manages his care from Cohoes, joined the walk-through by phone.

Platform Lift

Riverside-area raised porch — cold-weather vertical platform lift for rollator user

Riverside, NY Installed October 2025

The Cahill family’s Riverside-area home has a raised wraparound porch with a 32-inch entry rise — no room for a ramp given the front-yard grade, and stairs that their father, who uses a rollator walker, could no longer manage after a hip fracture. We installed a vertical platform lift with a weather-sealed motor housing rated to -20°F, a fold-up deck platform when not in use, keyed call stations at both levels, and stainless hardware throughout to resist the freeze-thaw cycling Troy sees from November through March. Running without a service call since October.

Common Questions

Everything Troy Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift cost in a Troy rowhouse or two-family?

Straight rails in standard Troy homes — the Federal Hill rowhouses, the North Central two-families, the postwar Capes in South Troy — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails for Hill District Victorians with 90-degree landing turns run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for raised porches and entry stairs run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Is pricing different for Troy’s older Victorian housing stock?

Equipment prices are the same whether the home was built in 1878 or 2018. What varies slightly is install labor for unusual conditions: narrow pre-war treads in Federal Hill rowhouses, landing fabrication in Hill District Victorians, custom floor-mount brackets in converted Downtown Troy lofts, and the cold-weather battery and lubricant we spec as standard on every Troy install. We tell you the line items upfront on the written quote — no hidden charges after we measure.

Is a stairlift cheaper than moving to a single-story in Rensselaer County?

Moving costs in Rensselaer County — real estate commission, closing costs, packing, new deposit — typically run $15,000 to $30,000 minimum. A straight stairlift installs in under four hours for $2,800 to $5,500 and lets you stay in the home you’ve lived in for decades, in the neighborhood you know, near the doctors and friends you already have. For most Troy families, the stairlift costs less than the real estate commission alone.

Do you offer financing options for Troy-area residents?

Yes. We offer fixed-rate financing from $79 per month with no prepayment penalty. Many Troy families combine partial VA or Medicaid funding with financing to cover the remainder. We present every option — grant, insurance, tax deduction, payment plan — on the written quote so you can compare before deciding. No pressure, no sales tactics.

A word from Luis

Most Troy families call after a scare on the stairs — a slip on a turned Victorian tread in the Hill District, a father who hasn’t been upstairs since hip surgery at Samaritan Hospital, a daughter in Albany worried about her parents in an 1880s Federal Hill rowhouse they’ve owned for 40 years and aren’t leaving.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that’s honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
