Straight Stairlift

The right fit for Summerville's Wescott colonials, Pine Forest two-stories, and Cane Bay new-builds.

Over 65% of the stairlifts we install in Dorchester County are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), and the battery backup keeps you moving when summer storms knock out the power. Most Summerville installs complete in under four hours. Every unit ships with the humidity-rated lubricant spec that Lowcountry summers demand.

Stairlift Service Across Dorchester County

Dorchester County, SC

From Historic Downtown's antebellum homes — where original heart-pine treads demand careful rail-matching — to the 1990s colonials of Wescott Plantation and Pine Forest, where a standard 13-foot straight rail handles the typical two-story in an afternoon, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in Dorchester County. We know which Gahagan ranch homes have bi-level layouts most installers overlook, and which Cane Bay and Nexton new-builds use open-riser treads requiring a different bracket.

We cover Ladson, Sangaree, and Lincolnville without a trip fee, and reach North Charleston and Goose Creek same-day.

1912 Historic Downtown home — rail matched to original heart-pine treads

Historic Downtown, SC Installed March 2026

A 1912 vernacular home in Historic Downtown Summerville with original heart-pine treads and a turned-post banister the family had maintained for three generations. Mrs. Haywood's daughter called from Columbia after her mother stopped using the upstairs bedroom following a knee replacement. We brought rail-finish samples, matched the color to the century-old pine, and bolted the track into the treads without removing a single spindle. The seat folds flat against the wall when not in use — the staircase still reads as original.

Wescott Plantation colonial — curved rail through 90° mid-landing turn

Wescott Plantation, SC Installed February 2026

A 1998 colonial in Wescott Plantation with a standard builder layout that looks like a straight run from the foyer — until you see the 90° turn at the mid-landing that sends the second flight along the back wall. A straight rail was impossible. We laser-scanned the full staircase on the first visit, fabricated a curved rail that navigates the landing turn and parks the chair flush at the upper hallway, and installed in a single afternoon. Mr. Beaumont now reaches his home office upstairs without help.

The Ponds two-story — swivel-exit seat for safer top-landing exit

The Ponds, SC Installed January 2026

A two-story home in The Ponds with 14 carpeted treads and a newel post that sat closer to the top step than the builder's plan allowed for. Mrs. Callaway's primary worry was stepping off at the top. Her daughter, calling from Atlanta, had specifically requested a swivel-exit seat. We installed it with the 90° swivel so Mrs. Callaway steps directly onto the hallway floor instead of the top tread. A small change that removed her biggest fear about the product.

Pine Forest raised entry — outdoor rail from driveway to front porch

Pine Forest, SC Installed December 2025

A Pine Forest home with the classic SC Lowcountry raised entry — six steps from the driveway to the covered front porch. Mr. Singleton is a Summerville veteran who uses a cane after knee surgery; the exterior stairs had become a daily barrier. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor straight rail with humidity-rated motor housing and stainless-steel carriage bolts, consistent with every Lowcountry install. The VA HISA grant covered the majority of the cost. Mr. Singleton was on his porch with his morning coffee within a week of the call.

Nexton new-build — slim-profile rail on open-riser floating staircase

Nexton, SC Installed November 2025

A 2021 Nexton home with the floating open-riser staircase that has become the default for that community's builder spec — modern aesthetic, but a different bracket configuration than traditional solid treads. Mr. Garrett is 71 and bought this house for retirement; the stairs were fine when he moved in and manageable until his hip surgery last fall. We used the slim-profile rail and neutral upholstery that keeps the modern look intact. The footrest folds away completely and the staircase looks architectural, not medical.

Platform Lift

Wescott Plantation home — indoor wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

Wescott Plantation, SC Installed October 2025

A 2002 colonial in Wescott Plantation where Mr. Richardson's mother relocated from upstate New York after a spinal cord injury left her in a full-time wheelchair. The family converted the upstairs master suite into her room and needed a platform lift — not a seated stairlift — to carry the wheelchair between floors. We installed a vertical indoor platform lift with yellow safety edges, a keyed lockout panel, and battery backup rated for Lowcountry summer storms. The lift carries 750 lbs — wheelchair, occupant, and a caregiver alongside. The family's HOA approved the interior modification in two business days under Fair Housing Act accommodation provisions.

Common Questions

Everything Summerville Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding, no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Summerville right now?

Straight rails in standard Summerville homes — the Wescott Plantation colonials, Pine Forest two-stories, and newer Cane Bay builds — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for Historic Downtown homes with mid-landing turns or any split-level layout, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor models for elevated entries run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are prices in Summerville different from Charleston or Columbia?

Equipment prices are the same across South Carolina. What occasionally varies is labor for specific conditions: preserving original millwork in a Historic Downtown home, or routing a curved rail around a post in a Nexton townhouse with an open landing. We break out every line item in writing. No 'Summerville market' markup.

Is a refurbished or used stairlift a good idea for a Dorchester County home?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, fresh batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never an option because the rail is custom-manufactured for your staircase. In Summerville's summer humidity, we only sell refurbished units with the humidity-rated lubricant spec installed. A factory-original lubricant degrades quickly in a Dorchester County July.

Any extra fees for SC Medicaid or VA billing?

No. We are an enrolled SC Medicaid provider and we work directly with the Charleston VA's HISA coordinator. The grant and waiver paperwork is a service we provide at no charge. What you get is a quote that covers everything — rail, seat, install labor, battery backup, and first service. The only add-on we occasionally see is a dedicated electrical circuit in pre-1940 downtown homes with older wiring. If that comes up, we tell you before we start.

A word from Luis

Most of my Summerville calls come from one of two situations: a veteran who's been putting this off for years and finally has a diagnosis that qualifies for the HISA grant, or a grown child in Charlotte or Raleigh who's worried sick about a parent living alone in a two-story home in Wescott Plantation or The Ponds.

My job is the same either way: drive to your home within 24 hours, measure once with a laser, and hand you a written quote that's honored for 30 days. No pressure, no upsells, and no surprises on install day. En español si lo prefiere.
