Straight Stairlift

The standard for Sterling Heights' brick ranches, colonials, and two-story homes across Macomb County.

Over 55% of the stairlifts we install in Sterling Heights are this model. A single straight run, the rail bolts to your stair treads (never into the wall), the seat and footrest fold up out of the way, and the cold-rated battery backup keeps you moving through a January power outage. On the older brick ranches along Clinton River Road and in southwest Sterling Heights, we check the electrical panel on the first visit — original 60-amp service sometimes needs a dedicated circuit. Most installs wrap in 3 to 4 hours.

Starting at $2,800 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls

Stairlift Service Across Macomb County

Macomb County, MI

From the tree-lined streets of Sterling Woods near Dodge Park — where 1970s colonials with full basements and 14-step carpeted runs are the standard install — to the affordable brick ranches in Maple Lane Valley near the golf club, where tri-level foyer-to-living-room rises dominate the calls. Forest View has newer 1980s-1990s construction with wider stairs and faster installs.

Along Clinton River Road and through Southwest Sterling Heights, the stock shifts to 1940s-1960s brick ranches with hardwood treads, narrower widths, and the occasional original 60-amp panel. North of 18 Mile toward Lakeside, the colonials get larger with open foyers and mid-landing turns that require curved rails. We staff a dedicated Macomb County team.

Sterling Woods colonial — straight rail on original 1972 oak treads, matched walnut finish

Sterling Woods, MI Installed March 2026

A 1972 colonial on a tree-lined street near Dodge Park — 15 original oak treads from the foyer to the upstairs bedrooms, a walnut-stained banister the family was not about to let anyone drill into, and a homeowner who has lived in the same house since Richard Nixon was president. Mrs. Kowalski's daughter found us after her mother slipped on the third tread in January and caught herself on the banister. We color-matched the rail to the existing walnut stain, bolted into the oak treads with lag bolts through small-diameter pilots, and parked the chair flush against the upper wall. Her bridge club meets in the downstairs living room every Thursday — nobody mentioned the lift for three weeks.

Maple Lane Valley tri-level — curved rail through a 90-degree landing, one continuous ride

Maple Lane Valley, MI Installed February 2026

A 1966 tri-level brick ranch near Maple Lane Golf Club — the textbook Sterling Heights layout. Six steps from the foyer to the main living level, a mid-landing with a 90-degree turn, then eight more steps to the bedrooms. Two companies told the Nowaks they'd need two separate straight rails with a walking transfer at the landing. Mr. Nowak has severe arthritis in both knees — standing at a mid-landing was the whole reason he needed a lift in the first place. We laser-scanned the full run, fabricated a single curved rail that threads from the foyer through the turn to the upper hall, and installed a swivel-exit seat at the top. One ride, zero transfers. The Macomb County basement humidity was the only spec wrinkle — sealed motor housing, desiccant pouch in the rail cavity, done.

1952 Clinton River Road ranch — masonry-anchored rail on stone-and-concrete interior steps

Clinton River, MI Installed January 2026

One of the older homes in Sterling Heights — a 1952 brick ranch along Clinton River Road with an interior half-flight of stone-faced concrete steps from the main level down to a finished basement where Mr. Jablonski, 81, has his workshop. The treads are poured concrete with a flagstone veneer. The first installer the family called showed up with standard wood-screw brackets and left when he realized there was no wood substrate. We came with a rotary hammer and stainless sleeve anchors rated for concrete shear. Diamond-bit pilot holes through the stone veneer, sleeve anchors into the substrate, rail bolted solid in 45 minutes. Mr. Jablonski still goes down to his workshop every morning. He says the ride is smoother than his '68 Impala.

Forest View — weather-sealed outdoor rail on stone-paver front entry, cold-rated for Michigan winters

Forest View, MI Installed December 2025

A 1988 colonial in Forest View with a raised front entry — eight stone-paver steps from the front walk to the porch landing. Mr. Bartos had a stroke in September and couldn't manage the front steps after discharge from Beaumont Hospital in Troy. The side entry through the garage had a two-step drop that was equally dangerous on ice. We installed a weather-sealed outdoor straight rail anchored through the stone pavers into the concrete substrate with stainless wedge anchors. Cold-rated battery backup to -20°F, de-icing drip tray on the charging station, UV-stabilized upholstery, and a quick-release seat bracket so the motor pops off before the first heavy snowfall if they prefer indoor winter storage. The Bartos family chose to leave it up year-round — it's ridden through two Michigan winters without a service call.

Lakeside colonial — straight rail on deep-pile carpet, HISA-funded for a Dingell VA veteran

Lakeside, MI Installed November 2025

A 1993 colonial north of 18 Mile near the Lakeside Mall corridor — 16 carpeted treads from the open foyer to the upper bedrooms. Master Sergeant Rivera, retired Army, service-connected back injury, Selfridge ANG Base alumnus, had been sleeping on a recliner in the living room for four months because the stairs were no longer safe after his third spinal injection failed. His VA provider at the Dingell Medical Center in Detroit wrote the HISA prescription. We pre-filled VA Form 10-0103, the grant was approved in five weeks, and we installed the same week the authorization came through. The rail anchors through the deep-pile carpet into the plywood subfloor with lag bolts. HISA covered the full $6,800. Rivera slept in his own bed the night we finished.

Platform Lift

Southwest Sterling Heights — indoor wheelchair platform lift with yellow safety edges, MI Choice funded

Southwest Sterling Heights, MI Installed October 2025

A 1961 brick ranch in southwest Sterling Heights where Mr. Nguyen, 73, uses a power wheelchair after a below-knee amputation at the Dingell VA. The five-step rise from the sunken family room to the main hallway was the barrier — his wheelchair couldn't make the turn at the bottom even with a ramp. We installed a vertical wheelchair platform lift at the interior transition between the family room and the hallway. Yellow high-visibility safety edges on the platform perimeter, automatic fold-down ramp at each level, keyed call stations top and bottom, sealed motor housing for the basement-adjacent humidity. The lift handles the full weight of his power chair plus 300 lbs. Approved through the MI Choice Waiver via the Macomb/St. Clair AAA — the $6,000 annual cap covered the full install. Mr. Nguyen now wheels from the family room through the kitchen to the bedrooms and the back deck without a single transfer.

Common Questions

Everything Sterling Heights Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in Sterling Heights right now?

Straight rails in a standard Sterling Heights home — the brick ranches in Maple Lane Valley, the colonials in Sterling Woods, the older homes along Clinton River Road — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for most 1960s-1970s tri-levels and split-levels with a mid-landing turn, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor weather-sealed models for raised front entries and side porches run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, cold-rated battery backup, and the first service visit.

Are tri-level homes more expensive to install than colonials?

The equipment itself costs the same — what changes is whether you need a straight rail or a curved rail. Most Sterling Heights tri-levels have a 90-degree turn at the mid-landing, which means a curved rail is the only option for a single continuous ride. A curved rail runs roughly $6,000-$10,000 more than a straight because it's custom-fabricated to your exact stair geometry. Some families choose two shorter straight rails with a walking transfer at the landing to save cost — we'll walk you through both options with real numbers during the free assessment.

Do you charge extra for homes with old electrical panels?

The stairlift quote itself doesn't change. But in older Sterling Heights homes — especially the pre-1960 brick ranches in southwest Sterling Heights and along Clinton River Road — the original 60-amp electrical service sometimes can't safely support a dedicated circuit for the lift. When that's the case, we bring in a Michigan-licensed electrical contractor to pull a new circuit and handle the local permit. That typically adds $300-$500. We identify this on the first visit, not on install day.

Is a refurbished stairlift worth considering in Sterling Heights?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40% off a new install — we carry factory-reconditioned straight rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never available because every curved rail is custom-manufactured for a specific staircase. If your Sterling Heights home has a standard straight run — the 14-step colonial in Sterling Woods, the ranch stairs along Clinton River Road — ask about refurbished inventory during the assessment. We stock them when they're available.

A word from Luis

Sterling Heights is brick ranches, tri-levels, and split-levels — built in the 1960s and 1970s when Chrysler and Ford were running three shifts and young families needed four bedrooms fast. Those families are still in those houses 50 years later, and the six-step rise from the foyer to the living room and the ten-step run up to the bedrooms is the exact staircase I measure three times a week across Macomb County.

My promise: on-site within 24 hours anywhere from Utica to Warren, a written quote honored for 30 days, cold-rated battery backup standard on every install, and the MI Choice waiver paperwork started before I leave your kitchen table. The Dingell VA in Detroit and the Macomb County Vet Center in Clinton Township are 20 minutes south — I know both HISA coordinators by name.
