Straight Stairlift

The workhorse of St. Charles County's two-story colonials and New Town townhouses.

Over 70% of the stairlifts we install in St. Charles County are this model. The 1990s-2000s colonials lining the Hackmann Road corridor, the New Town townhouses, and the older west-side ranches with straight interior runs all take the same slim-profile rail, bolted into the stair treads (never into the wall), seat and footrest folded up out of the way, battery backup keeping you moving through the next Ameren outage. Most installs wrap in under four hours.

Starting at $3,200 installed

What's Included

  • Battery backup for power outages
  • Swivel seat with safety lock
  • Two wireless remote controls
  • Soft start and soft stop motion
  • Fold-up seat, arms, and footrest
  • 10-year motor & gearbox warranty

Compared to Alternatives

vs Curved: 3x less expensive and installed in one visit. vs Home elevator: 10-15x less cost and no construction. vs Moving bedroom downstairs: Keeps your home exactly as it is.

Our Coverage Area

Stairlift Service Across St. Charles County

St. Charles County, MO

From the South Main preservation district — where the Italianate and Colonial Revival buildings lining Missouri's first state capital have been continuously occupied since the 1830s and the homeowner conversation is about preserving original walnut banisters in 150-year-old townhouses — to Frenchtown, where the German-immigrant brick homes and workshops along North Second Street have steep interior stairs with original hardwood treads and tight upper landings, our team has mapped every staircase pattern in the city.

We know which 1960s-1970s ranches in the older west-side subdivisions have the split-level half-flight-up, half-flight-down layout that requires a curved rail. We know which New Town three-story townhouses have the standard 36-inch-wide stair that installs in three hours flat. We know which Hackmann Road corridor colonials from the 1990s building boom have the straight 14-tread foyer-to-bedroom run that accounts for 70% of our St. Charles volume. And we staff coverage across St. Peters, O'Fallon, Cottleville, and Wentzville so you never wait on a tech driving from downtown St. Louis.

1994 Hackmann Road corridor colonial — standard 14-tread foyer-to-bedroom run

Hackmann Road Corridor, MO Installed March 2026

A 1994 colonial in the Hackmann Road corridor with the standard 14-tread run from the foyer to the upstairs bedrooms. Mr. Reinhardt had been sleeping in his recliner since his knee replacement at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital. We measured on a Tuesday, confirmed the 36-inch-wide staircase and solid oak treads, and installed the straight rail by Thursday afternoon. The rail parks flush against the wall at the bottom and the fold-up seat leaves the full width of the staircase open for the grandchildren. Mr. Reinhardt was back in his own bed that night.

1886 Frenchtown Victorian — curved rail past the original walnut newel post

Frenchtown, MO Installed February 2026

An 1886 German-immigrant brick home on North Second Street in Frenchtown with steep interior stairs, original hardwood treads, and a walnut newel post that Mrs. Schaefer’s great-grandmother brought from Germany. Two other companies wanted to anchor into the banister. We laser-scanned the staircase, fabricated a curved rail that clears the newel by two inches, and bolted the entire assembly into the treads alone. Three months later, not a mark on the walnut. The rail carries her from the ground floor to the upper landing in one continuous ride past the quarter-landing turn.

1968 west-side ranch — straight rail on carpeted treads, basement access

West Side, MO Installed January 2026

A 1968 ranch in the older subdivisions west of downtown with a standard straight staircase from the main level down to the finished basement. Mr. Brandt’s workshop and laundry are both downstairs, and after his hip replacement at Mercy he hadn’t been able to reach either for six weeks. We bolted the rail through the carpet into the wooden treads beneath — no carpet removal, no damage to the pile. The fold-up seat sits flush against the wall at the top landing, and Mr. Brandt rides down to his workshop every morning again.

Old Town raised porch — humidity-sealed outdoor lift on the Missouri River corridor

Old Town, MO Installed December 2025

A raised front porch on Mr. Dietrich’s Old Town home three blocks from the Missouri River, with six concrete steps he’d been avoiding since his balance worsened last fall. Every other company quoted a standard outdoor unit. We spec’d a humidity-sealed motor housing and cold-pack battery without him asking — the river corridor kills standard equipment in three summers. The marine-grade weather cover and storm-rated anchors handle everything the Missouri climate throws at it. The lift has run a full year with zero service calls.

South Main bungalow — straight rail for a post-surgery return home

South Main, MO Installed November 2025

A 1920s brick bungalow in the South Main preservation district where SSM Health was ready to discharge Mr. Koehler after knee surgery but wouldn’t release him until the stairlift was in place. We had the straight rail installed in 48 hours on a 12-foot run with original hardwood treads. The rail bolts into the treads only — never touches the wall, the banister, or any of the original Colonial Revival millwork. Mr. Koehler came home Thursday and rode the lift straight upstairs to his bedroom.

Platform Lift

New Town townhouse — inclined wheelchair platform lift for full-time chair user

New Town, MO Installed October 2025

A three-story New Town townhouse where Mr. Calloway uses a power wheelchair full-time after a stroke. A seated stairlift was not an option — he needed to ride his chair between floors. We installed an inclined wheelchair platform lift along the indoor stairway: a flat black anti-slip platform with yellow high-visibility safety edges, white handrails, and a keyed lockout. The VA HISA grant covered the full $6,800 service-connected maximum. Mr. Calloway rolls onto the platform, presses one button, and rides to the upper floor without ever leaving his chair. The whole point of New Town is walkability — now the interior stairs aren’t a barrier either.

Common Questions

Everything St. Charles Homeowners Actually Ask

Straight answers about cost, installation, and funding — no sales fluff. Browse by topic or call us if you have a question that isn't here.

What does a stairlift actually cost in St. Charles County right now?

Straight rails in standard St. Charles homes — the 1990s colonials along Hackmann Road, the New Town townhouses, the postwar ranches on the west side — run $2,800 to $5,500 installed. Curved rails, which you'll need for 1960s split-level ranches and some Frenchtown Victorians with mid-landing turns, run $9,000 to $15,000 because the rail is manufactured to your exact staircase geometry. Outdoor and humidity-sealed models for raised front porches and walkout basements run $4,000 to $7,500. Every quote is written, honored for 30 days, and includes installation, rail, seat, battery backup, and the first service visit.

Do St. Charles addresses cost more than St. Louis County?

No. Equipment prices are identical across the metro — a straight rail in Frenchtown costs the same as one in Chesterfield, Kirkwood, or O'Fallon. What occasionally varies is install labor for unusual conditions: preserving original millwork in South Main preservation district homes, compensating for 19th-century tread wear in Frenchtown rowhouses, and the occasional electrical circuit upgrade in a pre-1940 house still running 60-amp service. Line items appear on the quote before you sign. No surprise premiums.

Is a used or refurbished stairlift worth considering?

For straight staircases, a certified refurbished unit can save 30-40%. We carry factory-reconditioned rails with new upholstery, new batteries, and a 2-year warranty. Every refurbished unit we place in St. Charles County gets the humidity-sealed battery swap because factory-default batteries fail faster in the Missouri River corridor. For curved rails, refurbished is almost never available — each one is custom-fabricated. Ask during the assessment.

Any hidden fees if my home is inside one of St. Charles's six preservation districts?

Our quote includes the preservation paperwork we prepare for you. St. Charles has six designated historic districts covering more than 3,000 properties — South Main, Frenchtown, Historic Downtown, Commons, Landmarks, and the Extended Historic Preservation District. Interior stairlift installs are not subject to exterior preservation review. The only time we file a city preservation application is when an outdoor lift is visible from the street in a designated district, and we handle that filing at no charge.

A word from Luis

Most St. Charles County calls come after a family conversation, not a fall. A son in O'Fallon worried about his mother in a 1990s two-story colonial on the Hackmann Road corridor who hasn't been upstairs in two months. A daughter in Kansas City asking whether the rail will fit the spiral stair in her parents' Frenchtown Victorian. A couple in New Town who moved here specifically for the walkability and now realize the three-story townhouse they chose has 40 steps a day they can no longer manage.

My job is simple: drive to your house within 24 hours, measure once, and give you a price that's honored for 30 days. No pressure. No upsells. En español si lo prefiere.
